Sounds decent, good price point, has a unique stand. All this bundled up with a dash of RGB flair. What is not to like besides the lack of no latency monitoring? This is leaps and bounds above that dollar store mic and several other ultra low price point mics that have been reviewed here. Giving it to a kid with podcast aspirations is a great use case that does not break the bank and will provide them with an "almost" all in one solution. Fun fact I have not only heard of this brand Retekess but have actually used one of their products before. It is a small very low power FCC compliant wireless transmitter that I bought in 2021 and use it during the Christmas season so people can listen and watch our Christmas lights in front of our house. It has been reliable and performed well for its intend use. Thanks for the demo and looking forward to the next one from their line up.

"They assured me I'd be happy with it" - brave assurance. The polar pattern thing is REALLY odd. For the $$ it's not bad though, and i guessed you were gonna 5 it on the BBSAR. I think i liked the sound of the On Stage jammy you did last over this, but this at least doesnt have that uber hyped top end that a lot of the USB mics have. Kinda surprised you didnt try to end address it (which im guessing would kinda work in omni mode?).

Dang, that 58 really works on your voice. That said, the Retekess is really constrained, gritty, and midrangey in cardioid, but it's better in omni. That cardioid mode is weird, too. Not really cardioid - more like a supercardioid maybe? Really loud at 180 degrees, and very colored sounding. But again, it's $22....

I find the ball joint to be an interesting idea. I don't recall that type of design feature available on any other mic. That feature has possibilities. As you and practically everyone in the room is say, not bad and a pretty fair value. Just not my cup of caffeine.

If you were doing a podcast with a couple or more people and didn't want mics on camera, you could probably put a couple overhead in omni, although the lights might be distracting.
