One of the questions I get asked the most is "Can I just open Pokemon Card Booster Boxes and sell the pulls to make money?"
While in essence, this would make sets. Buying Pokemon Cards at Wholesale and then selling the contents at Market Pricing should give you a fairly decent return. However, with the oversaturation of Pokemon Cards on the market, it makes things very difficult.
In today's world, Pokemon Card wholesale works much differently when it comes to booster boxes. Pokemon Card Booster Boxes often time sell for only a few dollars more than wholesale costs making it extremely difficult for a Pokemon card Store to turn any sort of profit on Sealed Pokemon Cards. With demand and supply not measuring up, Pokemon Card resellers look for other methods to make the business model work. Unfortunately, cracking booster boxes and selling Pokemon Card Singles is not the answer.

The value seems about the same if not a little better than the past few sets for the booster boxes. Truthfully the pricing on cards is skewed heavily toward competitive cards so it'll be interesting to see what happens in a few years. The value will be lower overall for all these boxes so unless you plan on flipping the cards right now the "value" right now doesn't mean anything.

Ehh… I feel like this is a bit much personally. If these master sets are gonna consist of 300+ cards (that the average binder can’t even fit all of them individually), then they need to have to where 4 Booster Boxes ($400~), some A La Carte stuff here and there ($150-$200~) SHOULD set you up with at least 60% of the set built. It just doesn’t feel or look good to open hundreds of packs for POSSIBLY two alt arts. If the packs were half price then maybe, but they aren’t. From there, I believe that trading is the way to go first and foremost (This is a TRADING CARD GAME after all! Oh, and you could also possibly add a bit of spice to it and do BO(x) of either a legit battle or Rock/Paper/Scissors or just something that could net one or the other person a discount or a straight up booster pack); and then secondly/finally once you’ve either depleted what you can/want to trade (hopefully you have roughly 75% of the way done by this point) go ahead and purchase your remaining hits piecemeal. Selling your leftover bulk, if possible, is an excellent option to reduce the overall cost a bit more as well; and voilà, your (master) set should be 100% complete! Now…even all of that is for what many people inside and outside of this hobby would APTLY consider a pretty penny mind you; but at least the juice was worth most of the squeeze! That to me, and probably a lot of people would be the prime/optimal and most rewarding way to go when solving for the FunXFinancial satisfaction component. The only deviation that I’d understand (and personally make/made) is if I hadn’t pulled at least 1 of my anywhere from 2-5 chases (ALWAYS CHOOSE AT LEAST TWO), then I will absolutely open more until that either a) happens, or b) opened another 100 packs, whichever comes first. After that, it’s up to the individual’s sole discretion, lol. Not everyone has the type of disposable income that you (seemingly?) seem to. Do you to actually want Little Timmy/Tina (their struggling parents in reality) to need to spend upwards of $600 just to not even pull a good fraction of the set and either 1 big chase; or at the very least 2-3 of their lesser chases? Of course everyone is right to have their own opinion, I just like to try and base mine a bit more with the human element/factor in mind, lol. At the end of the day, this is all so inconsequential to literally anything that truly matters. You can have a chase be fun, exciting and an overall rewarding experience without causing the person to go insane - [Read: See Ryan’s Overall State Of Satisfaction Regarding His Infamous Blaziken VMax Pull, A Sub $200 Card Mind You, As A Prime Example Here: While The High Of Pulling That Chicken Was Phenomenal, He Said It Wasn’t Even CLOSE To Worth The Time/Packs/Money/Effort That It Took To Obtain It, Even 1/10th Of It In Fact (Roughly 200 Packs). Funny Enough, That 1/10th Remark Lines Up With My Original Fund Injection Assessment Almost To The Decimal, Haha.] I hope this light novel wasn’t too frustrating to get through; but I definitely appreciated the time to reflect on this particular subject and do a bit of math to boot, haha. Seeing Walking Wake get bought out and doubled in price was really frustrating. $35 was a price I was gonna be happy to pay for it, and I sold singles to get one. Before I got paid the price shot up way out of my range. I hope it comes down hard, I pull it, or I’ll just buy japanese at this point. It’s really unfortunate how hard pulls are and how much the market is being manipulated when I was so excited for this set before launch.

I’ve opened 2 1/2 (other half waiting for tomorrow) and haven’t pulled anything above a full art. Grotle IR is probably my favorite that I’ve pulled. Big thing is…with pull rates this tough, the TCG player market prices are fucked. They have been for a bit. The market doesn’t make sense to me.

That binder looks GREAT!!! Whoever wins that thing will be one happy collector! Love these booster box breakdowns from your mass rips, Danny. Appreciate that you take the time to take pics of each box's pulls. This was pretty eye-opening. A $44 profit at wholesale pricing?!?! And that's including the bulk... all the hours going in to open product, then sort product, then list product for sale... on top of that the fees involved like shipping, taxes, site fees, etc. You also need to protect your cards so there's money tied up in sleeves and top loaders/card savers. My goodness. Trying to make a profit in this business is an uphill battle and that uphill is on an extremely steep incline.

Even at bad pull rates there’s good deals out there that make this set very affordable to open up and you do have a chance to pull the big chase cards no need to over pay for single cards unless you really want it and don’t mind paying above market value

Great video! We've opened 6 3 pack blisters and got 8 hits but 5 were regular exs, 2 IRs and the counter catcher ace spec, which is pretty nice and made it not such a bad loss lol. Plus the kid loves that card cause its pink

I have been selling some of my pulls to offset the cost of the booster boxes. I bought the boxes during the Pokemon Day discount and was able to offset my cost by 25% so far, but I haven't listed everything yet. And I want to keep the good hits for mysef, of course! Not amazing, but not nothing either! This is my first time selling this early on and it is definitely easier than trying to sell later.

I think pokemon has dialed in pull rates perfectly. Not super easy like begnnig of the block but not needing 2000 packs to pull an alt art. After a set has been out a month if the most expensive card is 50 bucks thats the sweet spot. A perfect combination of accessibility for players and a hard chase for collectors but keeps away investor bros that skyrocket cards to 700 bucks. I might be the minority here but i think they nailed it with temporal forces.

yeah, definitely NOT opening anymore of this set. I opened an ETB and my only "hits" were 3 regular EX's. My booster box contained no SIR's either. Garbage pull rates = me not buying to rip. No sense tossing money away.

Gotta admire the consistency and the commitment to the hobby. No set has really done much for me since Crown Zenith. 151 is about average I guess, but it doesn't really compare to the set layout of Lost Origin, Brilliant Stars and Crown Zenith. These last 2-3 sets have been so underwhelming with the weird future and past Pokémon with different names. Just kind of strange, and not in a good way. I think Pokemon is going into another hibernation stage, similar to 2002-2014 when everyone left the hobby, but I can't see these cards coming back and being ultra popular some day like the 2002-2008 Gold Star, Crystal holos, and Shining cards did.

In the last 4 years I opened maybe 5 packs. I almost exclusively buy singles and my collection grows fast without going bankrupt. Whoever likes opening sealed should do it if they want, but they should know that they will be in constant loss. Thanks Danny!

I'm 8 booster boxes and 8 Pokemon Center ETB's deep into Temporal so far and it has been nothing but brutal. Only 3 SIR's and 1 gold. Worst box so far has only had 2 tera's, 2 IR's, 1 Ace spec, and 6 reg EX cards. No full arts or SIR's such garbage for a booster box.
