Just wanted to add, that enclosure is a well braced parallel tuned sixth order bandpass. Typically those enclosures are built to be driver specific, and when done right are one the most efficient ways to run a sub. Bose owns patents on the designs which is why you don’t see them used commercially except by bose. Great content btw!!!

Highly recommend the NX3000DSP as a great budget starter amp. Mine is the old looking model (Inuke3000DSP) and it's been going strong for a few years now almost on every single day for 8+ hours. (sometimes overnight if I fall asleep with it on) Currently running my (martysub) Ultimax 18" and (sealed 1.2 cube) Ultimax 10" on both channels (one on each) to help smooth out the response of my poor 11 x 12 room. And I almost never run out of power to play as loud as I need. But by that point every wall around my room is shaking pretty badly and on lower notes the ceiling and windows flex a fair bit. And that is typically louder than I need anyway without bridging the amp. Though I'd recommend a bigger amp with more guts and a Mini DSP if you really want to have more power for things like high impedance areas due to the box/wiring. My Ultimax 18 in the Martysub swings to 24Ohms at 28Hz for example.

@@jcklimo That would work! You could probably just put identical HPF and LPF on both and be ok. The subs integrate very well. They are tuned almost identically. Another option is to use a sealed sub with no HPF to get the super low stuff. Ive seen that put into place with Devas.

Thanks for the great video series following the devastator build. I am in the process of building my first home theater. I have decided to go diy for the subs but I am struggling to decide which to go with. I am between two devastators, two full martys, or one of each. I will add I am a bass head, I had some pretty large car audio systems in my younger years. One of my concerns with the devastator is the drop under 20hz. I would love to hear more info from you on your preference between those two subs. I would also be interested to see plots of you running only the devastator, only the full marty, and then both together. It would also be interesting to see how the performance/plot changes if you hook up your NX3000D to the devastator. Thanks for the great content!

Congrats on the new build. I would love to see photos of it as it comes along! The Deva has really won me over. If you have the space I would go with 2 Devas vs 2 Martys. As I said in another comment.... if you want super low strong bass you can handoff the infrasonics to a dedicated sealed box. I'd build the 2 Devas first and see if you still have needs after that. You more than likely will be happy with the Devas.

Chuck at Kicker once provided a comprehensive guide on these "bandpass" and isobarick mount technology...the selling point of a bandpass is you can "factor in" up to 3to5dB (or acoustically double a single driver's output...) in a single box...the "trick" is in porting it half octave separates these 2 ports or they will cancel each other out...in my wife's Honda we could shoot & listen to Guns & Roses...had been able to peg my SPL meter from the Radio Shak

@narmale2 жыл бұрын
absolutely not... bandpass boxes are like any other box... you can tune them ANYWHERE... a box is not a box is not a box... just because a horn is used on tweeters doesnt mean you cant use in down to 10hz... because you sure can to MASSIVE results you also use sealed enclosures on tweeters despite using them for subs... the reason SPL guys are using BP is because of the compression gain for SPL and DELIBERATELY tuning them to those higher frequencies for higher numbers... it has NOTHING to do with box type you can get ANY box to perform well at ANY frequencies... you just have to design for it, dont just say a box is limited for a specific duty because you've only seen it done that way... there is ALOT of tech info out there that you have no clue about... be willing to learn it

My main stage LCR are qsc's 4 way cinema speakers with dual 15's for low end. Goes down to 30 htz, got them from craigslist. But im not sure if six 15"s and three 10" on horns is more then enough for midbass. The highs are clear also on a horn, couldnt pass up the offer when i found them. Let me know if adding two full martys would help or devastators for low end.

In real world applications the Deva will have approximately as much low end extension as a Full marty. I would say the decision criteria should be: DO you want more midbass headroom and can you fit the larger boxes in the room. And does the Deva break the bank? Its more than a Marty obviously.

Good things are expensive, and nothing else. This subwoofer was very cool. It has huge potential. The design of the speaker subwoofer-I was all clear from the first video about it. This is a mixed design, the front part of the speaker diffuser is loaded on the horn and plays the middle and upper part of the bass frequency range, and the back part has a port, with a fairly low setting that provides a very low bass. I still have enough 15" inch subwoofer in bass reflex box power 1.5 kW. Class d amplifier. DSP is a useful thing, it helps to adjust the frequency response, but unfortunately it is not available to everyone. The main problem of large subwoofers in the room is the re-reflection of sound waves, which requires serious preparation of the room itself for listening. Otherwise, there is a chance to get a strong tambourine instead of detailed sound. Thank you for the video, it is really very useful, especially for beginners. In Russia, professional speakers, amplifiers and other home appliances are rarely used. Many fans of loud and high-quality sound use auto-sound components in home speakers because of the availability of prices, professional equipment is very expensive. Well, the body is usually made of chipboard, MDF or plywood. Thank you again!

Ah and Pro homes I, too, can you to tell). Ordinary apartment buildings in large cities are the same as yours, panel structures, concrete, rarely brick. Individual houses in the country or on their private land plots are built of two types, the first - for the warm season and are used mainly as cottages, for recreation and cultivation of agricultural products, and the second - solid for year-round living. The first ones are mostly wooden, made of timber, panel panels, frame type. Even about a layer of thermal insulation in our weather conditions to live in them in the winter as a rule it is impossible. The second, solid, made of brick, foam concrete, in rare cases cast concrete. They already have their own independent heating and everything necessary for year-round living.

@@JilesMcCoy Understand, for the most part of the population used a conventional sound system out of the box which would only require the connection. Some serious sound with the selection of components, only a few are engaged. And there are even fewer home-made workers. It is very common to use the old sound technology of the USSR, acoustic systems, amplifiers. The technique is quite reliable but requires some improvements and restoration. We currently have very few companies that produce speakers or acoustics for the home, mainly imported equipment. But professional equipment is made quite a lot. From large it is "NOEMA" in Novosibirsk, produces speakers for various purposes, including for professional subwoofers.

@JilesMcCoy5 жыл бұрын
Hey - The Martys and Devas integrate very well. They are both ported and are tuned very close together. At first I thought you might want to have some martys for lower extension.... but at this point I think if you have 2 Devas you really aren't going to miss out on much of anything. I think that if you want to go after the super low frequencies you might take 2 Devas and put a very steep HPF on them at 20 HZ and then implement a monster sealed sub with a LPF at the same 20hz. SO that the devas hand off the infrasonics to a sealed box. Or maybe have a set of butt kickers installed to do 0-15hz rumble.

I hope you all know that RMS does not mean continuous. The Crown 1502 is rated at 525 watts per channel at 4 ohms but its true continuous output is measured at 271 watts.

Also the ports are tuned at different frequencies. They have a steep roll off above and below each port. The port frequencies overlap to boost the roll off of each so you end up with a domed response curve. Also the two ports are supposed to load the driver like a sealed box. When frequencies go below the low frequency port the high frequency port has reduced air flow because the amount of air being pushed makes it act like a straw. Bose acoustomas

So in a room that looks really small you have 2 Full Marty subs, the Devastator and something else I didn't catch. Since you claim the Devastator eats the Full Marty subs is there any point in having both? Besides the satisfaction of building them yourself. With the Devastator on its side so close to the wall and couch I'm willing to bet that the port is being preloaded because there isn't enough room to free flow before it hits the wall or back of the couch ( I could''t tell which way you had it facing.) Perhaps the Devastator in the front and one Marty firing upward behind the couch would provide enough fill. Looking forward to you moving things around and giving us a report and since you never seem to have any cars in your garage turning that into a proper sized HT room :) Lastly, do you have any real idea of how much power is being used for any of these subs at ...let's say THX reference volume of 115db?
@JilesMcCoy5 жыл бұрын
Some quick answers: Picking between the deva and the Martys is the question of the day. I think it will come down to size. If you can fit 2 Devas.... then I would lean toward that right now. They arent much larger than the Full Martys but are much stronger. I cant fit 2 Devas.... but I could fit 2 micro Devas... Its facing the sofa to facilitate nearfield tactile response. Which it does well. It plays up into the low 130s... The garage is approximately the same size as the theater... so there would only be loss by trying that build. I am actually 100% satisfied with the bass in the room now. 1 Full, 1 Deva, and the sub35 is plenty of bass down to 15HZ or so. I will swap out the Full for 2 Cubes and run those 4 subs for a while. I have no idea how much juice they really use to get to 115 DB.... but its really not that much. Im not pushing my amps hard at all... 1 light. Although that is far from a scientific measurement. Thanks for watching! Are you thinking about a Deva?

@@JilesMcCoy I'm considering some options. I've been using a dual 18" IB for about 18 years now and I'm getting the itch to do something else. The 24" Stereo Integrity looks interesting too but is beyond my woodworking skills and tools to build a box for it. So what did you do with the other full Marty and what do you think the Sub 35 adds to the mix?

Albert Brooks Eventually both my full Marty’s will be replaced with Marty cubes... just due to size. The Sub35 is great because I can place it where it helps overcome room modes. It’s like the glue that holds everything together for my room.

Did you feel the heat of the amplifire if its too hot your putting stress on the amp and causing the amp to clip faster and faster then boom goes the dynomite your amp is gone if its getting hot check out the musysic amps like the musysic 3200w or the MU7K or the MU9K Amps that will give u the juice you need without overheating the amp you could run it bridged you could run the limiter to protect the amp from the clipping clipping an amp is like tossing a dynomite into the amp while it running clipping is a cancer for amplifires it kills amps trust me i whent through 3 1500w amplifires then i bought a Musysic 7000w professional power amplifire and it changed the whole game i am a Dj i run about 5,000- 6,000w through one sytem my amp it hold it like a champ without overheating id check out if your amp is overheating while watching a movie or listening to music i like your videos 👍👍👍👍 the one thing i see that looks really really cool is the whole setup i like your setup the wall mounted speakers mint👌 subwoofers mint👌 mids mint👌 highs mint 👌 your surround mint 👌your whole setup is👌 freakin mint👌 i like it

They are lying about the enclosure, there is no such thing as a 5th order horn loaded bandpass or whatever they call it lmao it’s a 6th order , very poorly designed and could be twice as loud if the ratio’s were designed correctly and the high tuned chamber was larger than the rear chamber

It actually works quite well. You don’t actually ever see the box during normal room use. And you tune the volume to be correct for the listening position. So the diameter of the speaker doesn’t matter from that point of view. The only real distraction I have now is a little reflection off the center channel. I’ll look to put some black material there to kill that. It would actually be fun to put up an AT screen and in-wall mount a center behind that. Maybe a future project!

@@petersouthernboy6327 According to Dr. Hsu, a man with at PHD in subwoofrology, you are incorrect Peter. What size subwoofer do I need? You cannot have too much subwoofer. A bigger subwoofer (from the same manufacturer) will always play lower, has lower distortion, more headroom, and better long term reliability if played at the same listening level www.hsuresearch.com/faq.html#1
