I found you when I was 19. I'm 30 now and married and we have $203,000 in invested assets and contribute around $42k annually now and only have our mortgage to pay off. I manage it myself following your guidance. Thank you!

It is because of Paul Merriman (and his guys) that I am now saving thousands by managing my own portfolio. Thank you, Paul!

That's good news! Have you figured out how much more money you will have because you are not hiring an outside advisor? Of course we will never know the impact the advisor might have had on us. I suspect the key will be how you handle a long bear market. If you can hang in there during the uncomfortable declines I suspect you will capture all the returns you set out to keep.

Hi Paul. I’ve been obsessed with your content, and I thank you so much for sharing. One question I have is I haven’t seen you discuss or make comparison on mid cap and growth funds- if you could please elaborate at some point. Thank you

Great question: There is nothing wrong with mid cap as its performance will likely be between small cap and large so the impact of rebalancing will be lower. The expectation is that growth will underperform value over the long term and so the S&P 500 is likely going to give a better return than growth over the long term. Of course, the S&P 500 is mostly driven by the large growth companies.

I recently tried to figure out how much I would have now (at 44) if I had invested 20% of my salary every year in a diversified portfolio similar to what Paul recommends. I previously had invested only enough to get my employer match (and sometimes not even that). Take it from me: start early and invest as much as you can! I’ve had to make significant sacrifices to catch up and I’m still not there yet.

Thanks for the refresher. I’ve adopted the Ginger Ale portfolio as a good-enough blend to stick with and it passes along a lot of the DNA from the UB&H. Now comes the hard part: just feed it for a few decades.

Will you have another speaking engagement in Seattle in the future? I have someone I will try to get to attend.

Sad to see you leave the Seattle area Paul. Hope you visit! Maybe see you at Retiremeet again?
