Great in depth vid showing if you take your time even a novice hobbyist can bring back the paint on a preowned sportscar. The oxidized headlamps also show there's no simple way to restore the finish. It takes time, patience and elbow grease to bring them back to almost new. Thanks Jay for the great how to vid using products that can be purchased over the counter.

Just discovered your channel after watching Nick Murray's video on the 996. Althought it seems like you know what you're doing, I figured I'd mention a few things anyway. Always measure the depth of the paint before the cutting stage. It can be incredibly easy to burn through paint, especially on older cars. I'd also say to limit your number of passes. Sure it's great to have a scratch free finish but it's important to remember you can't put back on what you've taken off, especially if you might not have a great amount to work with to begin with. Looking forward to binging the rest of your content!

After decontamination I have never done more than clay bar, which always seems to be adequate. But then I don’t have a older car. Of course we are a select crew who get satisfaction from a truly well done cleaning. Great episode, thanks for sharing.

Jay on the dent removal... As you already know you have to hit the dent several times and use different puller tips as the ding gets smaller and changes shape. It does work well in the end. Mine came with alcohol pads i believe to clean the surface prior to glue. It came out really nice!

Great job on the paint, Jay! Looks amazing…! Well done. I do have some thoughts on the headlight restoration: 1. Why not just remove the headlights from the car? It’s super easy on the Boxster. 2. If you use a headlight restoring kit you will get better results in a much shorter period of time. Personally, I use the Sylvania kit (no affiliation) and it’s worked extremely well. The headlights will look brand new. 3. The yellowing on the headlights is actually the UV coating failing. With most kits they give you a liquid that helps soften up the yellowed UV areas and remove it quickly on your first pass with the super fine grit sandpaper. 4. The final step of the kit process is recoating the headlights with a UV based sealant. Think of it as headlight clearcoat with a UV protectant. A ceramic sealant won’t last very long on the headlights, as the there is no UV protection. The plastic will start deteriorating again fairly soon. 5. The last time I did a headlight restoration I believe it took about an hour for each headlight from start to finish. The biggest issue for people who have not done this before is sanding the headlight and thinking that they’ve ruined it because it’s gotten all milky on the first sanding pass. That’s normal. You really have to work some areas harder to make the clarity uniform. After a couple of passes with finer sandpaper everything starts clearing up and the UV sealant at the end makes them look absolutely new.

Remarkable results, Jay!! Didn’t know you were a diy detailer. I consider myself the same and take great pride in the cars looking good. Not much I can offer other than the importance of pad choice and the speed of your passes. Normally orange pads are a good middle ground. At times you might need to get out a stiffer foam, or even microfiber/wool. You rightly state that it will all be situation dependent.
