I used to work at a place that was built in the 80's when they had 40's, 45's and 48's too. Those 53's came out and made it hell for a lot of OTR load trucks to dock. Several times we had a LTL driver dock the truck for the Werner guys right out of school when they came to that place. I saw an old guy stick his trailer into a spot like 2 with trailers in 1 and 3 already docked and a close wall too. THe other drivers were clapping when he finished docking. I learned to have a lot more respect for what you guys do every day after being a traffic manager at that warehouse. Great work and thanks for all that you do!!

Got stressed out picking up a load of cat litter of all things in Missouri and holy crap it was tight! The old timers with their long nose Pete’s and KW 900’s badabing in like Flynn first shot sat back and all got on the radio at once trying to help the kid in his COE, I was sweating bullets and after 15 min I finally got it between their rigs 😂. That PU was my biggest learning experience. Understanding the importance of relaxing and not worrying about hitting it on first try every time.

Good job mate! 23 minutes, 3 trucks! I wonder? Sometimes i take smaller than 45 seconds to do it. Love to go there sometimes!
@Shilohii656 жыл бұрын
The “very” simple rule is this: Your back up should mimic your pull out. Go forward in time and visualize what it will look like when you leave out of there. When that guy was backing up, and he exceeded the 90 degree alignment, he should have pulled back out and got his rear trailer axle to pivot prior to the left guide line, to hit his dock door. Simple....don’t over think the situation. It’s daylight, this should be a no brainer. Experience will teach you that there is a “sweet spot,” when backing. When you have everything aligned properly, you’ll just make minor adjustments to keep tracking on that sweet spot.
@Shilohii656 жыл бұрын
Also, tires are approximately 12’ in circumference. When making adjustments, moving more than 12’ begins to put you into an entirely new ball game, as for correcting what you had just done. Make minor adjustments; not major ones.
@tombrady5654 жыл бұрын
These videos are the ones that make me so glad I drove a flatbed. You might run into something this every 6 out of a 100 deliveries. That's not to say that flatbedding was always easy in and out, but this was a rarity instead of a daily or even weekly thing. Had a few deliveries in the National Forests where I disconnected, the crane picked up my trailer and spun it around so I could rehook and drive out.

I'm a rookie, but, I just realized something. If he just kept going till the back of the trailer was offset to the door that you're backing into, straightened the steering wheel, did a pull up, then straight backed in, his whole rig would have been straight. I'm going to try that at the next dock I back into! Gotta keep thinking about how to improve, that's the only way to get better at backing! I really like the videos, keep em coming, and thanks brother man! Stay safe! Subscribed!
@donaldbartram63154 жыл бұрын
Keep getting better but don't follow his way.. Took way to long to back into an open door. After 43 years backing still has its challenges, I did a lot of delivering construction materials to job sites. Every one of them is different & if you go back to the same place, it will be different from the 1st time. Delivering to grocery stores is also a challenge, usually crowded & old stores weren't built for 53 footers. Take your time .

I just love how they build these places and stick crap out in the way and then put yellow poles around it which cause more of a problem!!!!!
@dejonsmall98868 жыл бұрын
That's the Gas Meter surrounded by the yellow poles. It's there because the owners did't want to spent the cash to move it closer to the building. From the set up I'll guess that it's about a 3-4 inch service line. It's expensive to move the service line. The Gas Company only brings the line up to the property line for commercial buildings. The owner comes out of pocket for the rest. Now you gonna ask how do I know this. I spent 37 years in the Natural Gas Industry.

+Freddie Ray sounds fun, learned something new do electrical companies or other companies running wiring or pipes or lines etc do the same?
@dejonsmall98868 жыл бұрын
Usually the power is attached to the building, but local codes can be different by states.
@brandonpryormusic8 жыл бұрын
+Freddie Ray Right. The power company will run the lines to your service mast but the line from their pole to your building is still your responsibility. If they were to start sagging and got hit, the power company would not be liable to pay any damages.

Yes. Generally all services are supplied to the property line, then it's up to the property owner via to arrange for them to come further on to the site.

Not an easy place to back into. The trick is to backin at less of an angle then jackknife the trailer when you get as close to the trailer that is already backed it the spot next to yours. So that when you staighten while backin up you are on the inside of the line on the ground and then u can move forward and the trailer will straigthen up and stay betwwen the docking lines and then u just back in..But its easier said than done without a spotter checking the trailer behind u, i just get out and check how far i am from it myself. Nice video JBG...

Driving a truck is easy. It’s backing a trailer up to a door that takes the most patience and accuracy. These guys have a lot of room between the doors, but if there was a trailer on either side of your door. It would be a lot more complex. I know, I’ve been there many times. Still a good job. Totally different then backing up a uhaul trailer.
