I’m a Brit and it’s fascinating to hear and take apart how we make the sounds that we take for granted and hear them from a non native speaker.

I'm a British actress and use your American accent videos for auditions - so helpful. The accent you do here is excellent - lots of other English accent tutorial videos teach a really heightened Queen's English, and hardly anyone speaks like that anymore whereas yours sounds very natural and completely believable. anyway you're great! bye x

I still thought it was far too posh. I've personally never heard anyone speak that way except the royal family and people in old films.

@@user-td4do3op2d the royal family does not speak the way she just did! Have you seen The Crown? That’s how they speak! And yes, this is really general RP, I personally have heard many people from the UK speak this way 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm English and I must say that is spot on!! Probably the best English imitation I've heard wow. No-one here would question the authenticity of your accent.

Firstly, I just wanted to say that you are stunningly beautiful. You could read the dictionary out loud and I would still be mesmerised by that gorgeous smile. Secondly, as a Brit, I can say that the particular accent you are using here (which we would probably describe as a Home Counties accent) is flawless. As someone who has lived in the South East of England all my life, I would not be able to tell that you were not English. Just one tip that you might find useful: we would pronounce it AnTony rather than AnTHony. Also, we would say film rather than movie. Anyway, I love your videos, so keep them coming! Much love

Very impressive, Im English basically with this accent but yours is maybe a little bit posher than your likely to hear, it seems much harder for an american to do english than it is for us to do american because we have constant exposure to american from a young age, so this is very good.

Besides, I guess that American accent is simpler to do than English. I am neither, so it might be easier for me to see it from outside.
@user-mc6zk8tc8c
@user-mc6zk8tc8c 4 жыл бұрын
@@StrangerHappened Yes, and that's bcz British accents are more singsongi compared to standard North Americans one from America and Canada. The only American accent that is so singsongi is the southern accent from places like Texas, Tennessee and others. That would be hard for you to do as well compared to a regular American accent. But to me English accent(RP) comes more naturally bcz I've started learning English with their pronunciations. And my intonation came from watching a lot of British TV shows. Although brits often think mine is a bit too posh, average brits are more relaxed and often drop the Ts from some words.

Can, man, pan, ban, ran, tan, van; all the same ending sound in British English. Can't is car plus nt on the end in British English (not the Boston car of course). If you can get car, the can't should be easy, same sound as aunt in British.

Same with "court" and "caught." If you can say "court" in an English accent, then "caught" should be easy, because they sound exactly the same.

Amy is right. When saying can't, you have to be very mindful in case anyone thinks you are saying something wrong. In Australia as well as England it's easy to say can't because it's like saying carn and then t. In America it's like saying can as in soft drink can then t.

This is the best I've ever seen from an American. Accents in England are very complex, because region and class are equally important. There is some inconsistency though. For example, at 1:23 you drop a T, which would be a lower class thing to do, whereas the accent in rest of the video is extremely posh (probably representative of less than 1% of the population). This kind of thing seems quite unexpected and jarring to a native English speaker. If I didn't know you were American, hearing that accent I would guess that it was fake, but spoken by someone with a different English accent!

Fascinating; I could listen to your mellifluous voice and ogle your expressive face all day long. Would love to hear if you can nail some of the British accents in regions other than the south (London and adjacent counties). For example, Geordie (Newcastle area), Brummie (Birmingham area), Scouse (Liverpool area). Also Yorkshire, Welsh, West Country, and Northern Irish accents. All very distinct from one another.

That ONE word...swear to god.every time i hear a brit speak, the word "can't", soooo simple but so complicated..i always think if i were to try it, i would never master that accent. But the way you explained it makes sense. Let it fall and collapse before ending the sound. Facsinating.

Why not just call it standard ENGLISH accent? I thought you'd have known better than to call it British. There is literally no such thing as a standard british accent other than americans being american in thinking that everyone in the UK is English, as if Scotland/Wales/Ireland doesn't exist. Calling it standard british is pretty much like I expect to hear a mix of scottish in there as well, but ofcourse it's just english.
@SilverArro
@SilverArro 4 жыл бұрын
Sarithus Americans don’t think everyone in the UK is English. We’re well aware that Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are different places with very different accents. For whatever reason, Americans use the words “British” and “English” interchangeably. If we wanted to specifically refer to someone/something Irish, Scottish, or Welsh, we would just use those words. So while it may not be entirely proper to use the word “British” that way, we certainly don’t mean it as an insult.
@blackletter2591
@blackletter2591 4 жыл бұрын
Many middle class Scots and Welsh speak like that as well and they don't like being mistaken for English in any way. This attitude is part of the reason.
