Lots of games are still created to be fun. In fact, probably more than ever. The AAA industry is the problem here. It's soulless, it's there to farm money from gamers with low IQ and low expectations. The rest of the gaming industry, and especially the modding industry (can modding even be called an industry?) are just as good as they always were.

@@21Kiloton (caution this is a long one) I often find your videos fascinating as it puts me in a mindset that makes me see corporate motives in other lights. As I've mentioned before I collect Transformers toys and so I can't help notice the similarities you bring up between the toy industry (especially Hasbro) and Ubisoft. For example : Ubisoft "Virtue signals" by putting a lot of effort into their accessibility features (I have no issue with that - but maybe the motives are a tad cynical). Where as with Hasbro they arbitrarily decided to remove Plastic from it's packaging so you can't see what you are buying (drives Star Wars & Marvel collectors completely nuts) for so called environmental reasons. The thing is they did this before they changed from plastic washers and twist ties to cardboard strips and jute tags and then they got bored with it and went back to plastic securing again. Making me wonder if they are as "not serious" about this as fast Food restaurants were about being pressured into getting rid of the kids meal toys the eye of Sauron moved on and they soon came back Videogames have a bad habit of "over promising" and encouraging pre-orders and delivering broken products that they often never fix. Where as Meanwhile Hasbro has a serious issue with discolouration of the plastic it's known about since 2017 and still done nothing to fix. An attitude of "we do not care" that seems very similar to the gaming industry attitude. Hasbro also tried to push NFT's (before the gaming industry even) and did it to kids too and also fortunately got laughed out of town (thankfully). They peeved a lot of people off with a Power Rangers NFT linked to a premium Black Dino Megazord toy that was so obscure that plenty of people didn't claim it as they didn't understand what the heck they were buying - so they got a worthless picture exactly like everyone one else had (that wasn't even on a secure URL and was the exact same image as on their website) so they got conned into paying for a toy they never got. Else where in the toy industry Funkopop is even worse with NFT's too. Hasbro's New CEO is a piece of work too he said in public that he didn't want to expand the market but rather wanted to get the existing customer base to pay more. The videogame equivalent of in-game shops fleecing the loyal customers in assassin's creed games. Videogames get identikit sequels, remake and reissues of deleted games. The toy industry gets low effort repaints or toys sold to you twice as they have a pretty box. I think in both sectors things were better for everyone when they sold a finished product to a wide market - no DLC, no repaint something 14 times. The videogame market sells you a game that the underpinnings of isn't fixed and keeps using the same engine and assets (like Ubi soft using the same gun models in multiple games) or Bethesda being to cheap to make a new game engine. Where as with my corner of the world - we got the same or slightly changed Megatron Figure released 14 times in slightly different colours - all but 2 of which discoloured inside 6 months too. Both industries like to sell you things "broken from new" at premium prices or sell you the same thing over an over again. Also in Videogame terms I am reminded of Crysis Remastered - I already bought that on sale before 2 & 3 were announced - but the only even have game 1 and the Trilogy on sale so I'm not paying extra to get the other two. It's not like they let you have a partial discount for already owning the 1st one or give you a code for the duplication so you can sell it or even allow you to donate it to some sort of charity or prize reward fund scheme - you just pay twice for nothing. In toy terms this is like selling a product as a single product then selling it again in a gift set with 1 new toys and 5 reissues (something Hasbro has done before multiple times) you are forced to rebuy the same thing again to get that one new thing. So yeah I often notice the similarities between the two industries when watching your videos - thanks for making them. OH and I the toy industry and China is a rather colourful connection too. They even had a flyer in a toy a few months ago saying this toy's sales part funds Helicopters for the Chinese Military in it - much to many raised eyebrows. Thanks for all your hard work and research and editing - and having to watch that stream - so we don't have too :(

@@90lancaster You are incredibly welcome 90 Lancaster and thank you for all that information. It shocks me, but somehow does not surprise me, because watching channels like Critical Drinker and HealsversusBabyface, its clear that the problems of the video game industry are being replicated in other areas of the entertainment industry. My guess is that it is something common to modern commercial activity, and not specific to any particular product. A thought experiment I like to cogitate over is the structure of companies. Traditionally most of a company was the "producton", and bolted onto that top and bottom you had the accountants and the sales department. Most of the operation was "making something desirable", and you had someone selling it, and someone else making sure you were staying in profit. One commonality I see across video game publishers is that they are shrinking the production part of the company, whilst the monetizers, executives and the PR department continue to bloat. We are getting to the point now where PR budgets are starting to get close to or bigger, than the actual money they spent on the game. That is a clear sign they are marketting crap, and the marketing IS the core activity. I guess people who do MBAs are constantly told to make more profit with less" and the end result is this: companies trying to sell you crap for the highest price. This is why I think indie developers will constantly cycle through the industry, because they just make the best game they can. Thank you for all that backstory. Now I know to add toy companies to my list of potential shitheels. Happy hunting fella, and thank you for your ongoing support.

@@21Kiloton Some have speculated about so called "Corporate Sociopaths" having a baring on business practices. such scum rise to the top - but as they lack empathy ad a competitive to high degree they can burn down any cooperation in favour of toxic work environments. (very evident some real pieces of work get into leadership roles in the videogame industry i'd say). There is also various pressures on share holder returns, I think Hasbro were "doing OK" not great but OK until Disney got their hooks in and I think they have been a lot worse since around 2007 when the old Disney contract ran out. I just get frankly confused sometimes they just had the Hasbro Investors event : This is the piece of work I was complaining about who wants to fleece existing customers and is crap at expanding the market share without gouging the existing customer base (so not unlike Ubisoft perhaps). kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3_Nd6qwfLqWd5o Funny how Transformers is supposed to be a Billion Dollar Brand - but one that you barely see at Retail anymore - weird that. On the part you mentioned about ubisoft owning subreddits and fan forums, I remember an interview with a former one direction hardcore fan who seemed to have grown up. She was a fan for years and involved in multiple forums prominently. She mentioned that she saw forums get infiltrated by at first glance it seemed normal accounts, but quickly everyone could tell that they are corporate, and they quickly take over entire forums and control them. What is worse is that sometimes when they are unsuccessful at infiltration, they seem to either pay off mods or bribe the platform admins to take over the place. What is the kick in the nuts is the fact that there's no video or article or confession of someone in that industry exposing it all. These guys have all this information and tactics down to a science and literally the only way we know of their strategy and tactics is by monitoring it from the outside. Its scary af and making me wonder how they are able to keep possibly thousands of people quiet, especially people with insane egos and some with skewed political beliefs that they publicly love to boast about in public.

Very sharp observation mate. This is precisely the situation. Much of this stuff is in violation of the platforms terms of service, some of it is in violation of advertising laws, and some of it is straight up old fashioned fraud. Yet thus far we can only try and figure it out by the consequences of their actions. One day there will be a whistle blower. Someone will have a crisis of conscience and then hopefully it will all come out. Right now the authorities have zero interest in it.

A few of those poor misguided souls and you earn money like crazy, without actually working on anything hard. Just give them a new skin once in while and they are happy. 1 or 2% keeping the whole system alive. Free to play brought down the quality of the whole industry. "Assassins Creed Mirage to feature real gambling in it" Ah yes, Mirage, a game set during an important era in Islamic culture. The same Islamic culture that has gambling OUTLAWED and BANNED in its countries, and has been for countless centuries. Im so glad that Ubisoft is so progressive and forward-thinking that theyre literally disrespecting the Islamic culture with their game set during an important Islamic era by featuring stuff thats been banned in every Islamic nation out there since written history began. So progressive, Ubisoft! Please continue to post black squares and talk about equity and how unfair the games industry is for PoCs!

I honestly don't think Skull and Bones is a rip-off of Sea of Thieves, I think it's from the big success from AC4. If anything, AC4 probably inspired Sea of Thieves.

Skull'n'Bones... the ONLY thing they needed to have done, was to patch the Assasins Creed story out of AC4: Black Flag, throw in a slightly different texture pack (without AC specific stuff) and than write and animate a pirate story on top. Job done. A real study could have done that within a year. And used the hype AC4 Black Flag generated for pirate themed games. Oh Ubisoft.

@@sumstuff6956 A question is not supposed to make a point --- it is supposed to prompt an answer. I understand what "shadow censoring" is, and how it works. What I don't understand is how a person's subscriptions would be throttled. Are you suggesting that the actual subscriptions are prevented, or just the _display_ of the _number_ of subscriptions? Because if I subscribed to a channel, it would be obvious if I were actually subscribed or not.
