Ubisoft has been in steady decline for a many years now. It has gradually shifted from being a maker of premium video games, to being an industry leader in hyper-monetization, and IP recycling. Dont take my word for it, watch their E3 presentation for this year. Its a farce.
Special thanks to Mario J. Martinez, Archangel, Jason T Barnes, Dean McGee, Steve, Alcoholistair, RageDMX47, Hector Salamanca, Corvo Fox-Gray, FatCat1, Anna Lovatt, Michael Pearce, ATR-42 and all of my Patreon supporters. Their stoic support humbles me.

I'm a veteran, and I agree that veteran suicide is a real problem. I've known a few guys who commuted suicide. I think the biggest thing would be to just point guys in the right direction and help them realize how many opportunities they have in the civilian world. The post 9/11 GI bill is a great thing. But a lot of guys don't use any of it when they get out. I spent 6 years as an infantryman. When I got out the only hard skills I had weren't useful unless I wanted to do armed security or become a policeman. However, thanks to the GI bill I currently hold a commercial pilot certificate, and by the time I'm finished with the route I'm taking I'll have my flight instructor certificates, a bachelor's degree, and my A&P (aircraft mechanic certification). I even get payed a housing allowance and book money while I'm in school. I had to look around to find a program where I could accomplish all that and not run out of benefits. But what I'm saying is veterans have a great tool at their disposal that allows them to move on from the military and enter a new field of their choosing. A lot of veterans just don't take advantage of it though. A lot of guys do suffer from PTSD and other issues that don't help at all. But a lot of guys just feel trapped and aren't sure how to move on. Even if they're already out. I think it's great that Ubisoft is trying to help the issue. But I do think that the best thing is just to help guys get into meaningful careers that they enjoy.

What I don’t understand is why PTSD and treatment is not more widely recognised and accounted for by institutions and society. It’s not exactly a new thing. I recall that this topic is being actively researched at least since WW1. Does society enjoy victimising men wholly unnecessarily?

Roger that. I'm a fellow grunt veteran who served in the OIF conflict's or war's or whatever they want to call this stuff today. Either way, it's war. Well, to your reply mainly, my brother did the same job I did except he got stop lost which made him angry as hell. Anywho, him and I like all grunt's suffer from various levels of PTSD. Video game's actually help me like therapy in a way too. My brother though, in direct reply to the OP, he will not do anything to help himself further. He's tried, I know. The V.A. is really BAD. I know that for myself. But, while I kept at it for awhile, he did but it's a long, sorted history of how the system just doesn't really gives 2 shits about vet's. I used my GI Bill, IDK if my brother has, but I did to get my degree in criminal justice/psychology. Although, looking back, I kind of wished I used it for geology instead. Just my thoughts brother. Stay safe.

Ubisoft and their old game engines is exactly like Bethesda and their outdated game engine
@TheFibrewire
@TheFibrewire 3 жыл бұрын
Game engines are fine, if an engine is old it can still make games. So engine is fulfilling it's task. It's the morons and incompetent fools who use the engine are to be blamed. There are so many fun games that were made in old gamebryo. Massive, ubisoft, Bethesda are filled with incapable fools. So their game sucks ass.
@deralbtraumritter8573
@deralbtraumritter8573 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFibrewire true, engines can be improved upon. Like working on a car or a PC. But in alot of times like a PC eventually it'll be outdated no matter how much you improve or tweak it. But even a old basic engine like Unreal has new incarnations (Unreal 4, Unreal 5). But engines like Snow Drop, Anvil, or in the case of Bethesda, Creation Engine aren't just utilized by idiots but aren't as great as ones like Frostbite, FOX Engine, Cry Engine or even the Decima. Bethesda, well it's like they're using the same engine from when I was like 15, and only "tweaked" it (sometimes optimizing it...if you can call it that as usually when they do that it messes with stuff more than it helps, causing more bugs and more time to fix them). So I agree that engines are utilized by idiots, but also you can only do so much with something so old.

The rot began with Vegas, which turned the franchise from the tactical "think and plan before you do anything at all" team-based shooter into a linear cover shooter with amped-up gunplay... which is the furthest thing from what the franchise was about. Once it got to the lead character in Vegas 2 having to hold off waves of enemies (practically alone) in the final stage, the franchise was set. The only thing that might have reversed the rot was Patriots, but that looked like such a tonal shift from the previous entries (much darker and edgier) that I'm convinced it was only done internally as a proof-of-concept to sway executives over to a safer option in Siege. Narratively, the franchise lost the story after John Clark retired and Chavez took over. Everything since then has been a rotating stable of characters with little prominence or narrative reason to follow their story.

@@helios431 agreed my man. Sam's Legacy is one in the same as Solid Snake. But I don't get Ubisoft. They'll make a Netflix show (which is a joke since there's a movie and shows for everything. Probably even a reality show about taking a ridiculous dump) for Fan Service but not a game?! They cudda did what Kojima did with MGSV and monetize it like Konami did. As greed as they are.... Makes no sense. Blacklist was kinda like that. So they already (unlike Dice) had the tech for that. Instead we get Ghost Recon. And instead of classic Rainbow like Rainbow Six Patriots we get Siege... When "Worst Video Game Company" was taking votes Ubisoft mustta went over to EA and said: hold muh beer...

@@deralbtraumritter8573 I think I have the answer. Splinter Cell games are stealth games that require patience and planning and Rainbow Six Patriots was supposed to be a strategic shooter with squad mechanics. None of these game genres appeal to mainstream audiences. Ubisoft let their old hard-core series in the past and is just using Sam as a mascot for some quick microtransactions cash.

@@helios431 exactly what I was thinking. Tho as greedy as they are Ubisoft cudda copied off of Metal Gear Solid V for Splinter Cell. TBH that'd make more sense than Breakpoint, or Siege (Siege, the game with no story... Except one could say they're in a simulator like MGS VR Missions). Division could have been better too. Which why I'm hoping The Day Before will be good.

You have to pay extra for access to additional songs which is so ubisoft. Now I just watch youtube videos of other people playing the game which for me is still a great way to learn songs. Well I agree with most of the stuff except one. Mario + Rabbits is a great game, as a XCom like game. Funny, very easy to get in but hard to master. It was also very well received around in terms of review scores. From all the games announced by Ubisoft that's the one I'm expecting the most, since I played the first one and his expansion and love it to death. Ohh and no clothes or weapons or power ups to buy with real money by the way (on the first one at least). The only unlocked stuff is behind certain amiibo, but it is easy solved with a NFC capable device and a program to simulate an amiibo using the real NFC tag that is available behind a simple Google search.

You had me at "Xcom like". In the interests of due diligence I will try and sniff around Mario +Rabbids, to make sure I have not done it a disservice. I just need to find a way to play it without investing in Nintendo. Thanks for piping up mate.

@@21Kiloton Give it a go, watch some playthoughs of it. Although I don't think you will able to play it without a Nintendo Switch. Is exclusive fo the system and I'm not sure if the Yuzu emulator will be able to play it great. It is rated as bad, although someone rated as perfect with his system. If you have someone in the family with a Switch, specially a teenager give him some vouchers for beer in exchange of the Switch for a month.

Props for dropping that truth bomb about the issues regarding the Native Americans and the bloody history a lot of history books write out of their pages. Edit: As a veteran myself, also thanks for bringing up just how garbage we get treated after we get out. They try to act like you'll have an easy go of it when you go back to civilian life because "Everyone wants to hire veterans." No... No they do not. They won't outright say that's why you're not getting hired, but military service does not, in fact give you a one up in terms of getting a job. That's part of the reason that, even now, veteran homelessness and veteran's who are hopelessly addicted to opiates is a real, clear and present threat. Fuck, I've been homeless a few times, in one occasion I made the horrible mistake of going to a souperist homeless shelter... I came to find out as I bunked up that the room I was in held every other branch of the military. Like, Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force... My dad's thanks from the VA for serving in 'Nam was to put him into an "assisted living facility" read: a disgusting place that's a hairs breadth apart from the old school asylums. The colloquial name of the place was a "Death Farm" where entitled asshole children dump their parents off so that the elder person can get beat, deprived of their meds, abused non stop until they croak and the kid can take the inheritance... The VA acted like they had no idea and they sent someone to check on my dad and check out the place... There was a foot circumference dried pool of my dad's fucking blood in the corner that they couldn't be arsed to clean up...

Thank you for taking the time to tell me that. Im very sorry to hear how both you and your dad were treated. I did not serve, but I met a lot of veterans thanks to the Division franchise. Because of the nature of that game it attracted serving and retired military, police and first responders, like a magnet. Thats how I first became aware of the challenges facing people trying to "return to normal life" after having those kinds of experiences. I wish you and yours the very best in the future mate. As for the Native Americans, it grates on me that people still think the settlers threw a few infected blankets at them and they all magically disappeared. If this explanation were true, it would have been the biggest, fastest, plague in the history of humanity, with a lethality exceeding Marburg virus. Funny then that you only hear about this "plague" in history books about America, but infectious disease scientists dont really have much to say about it. (probably because they see it for the propaganda that it is.) All the best mate. Good luck in the future, and thank you for watching.

If the big distributors/developers want to show that they care, they need to remove the monetisation and gambling elements from their games...and release decent "all there" games that are playable and complete at launch...instead of the trash we all get now.
