Future generations of gamers need to learn from this tragedy. It's basically a blueprint for making Worst Game of the Year. I am quietly impressed with their determination to fail. It is absolute and unyielding.
Warning: Do not be deceived by the in-game video footage. As terrible as it looks, it conceals how dreadful the game is to actually play, seems to be smoother than the experience of playing, and does not adequately convey the crushing input lag, latency, or mouse delay. You have been warned.

Even if it was somehow a "reskinned" Battlefront; by now it is so polished, gritty, impactful, and deep (in mechanics/skill gap) that nothing else really compares.

Actually i am a little wrong; Halo Infinite has a deep movement and timing mechanic well at this point, but 343 is nearly as bad as DICE at this point. They have two saving graces; good multiplayer, and some form of campaign. Unfortunately FTP, Microtransactions and cross-compatibility are ruining the first, and the second still doesn't live up to the hype. At least I can say that I retain a small amount of faith that 343 might turn it around.

Cannot believe they got rid of classes! I’m a terrible online FPS player but I loved playing as a medic in Battlefield 1 as I could actually make a positive impact for my team and regularly got the most heals award. There is no reason to play this new one as I will spend my whole time dying!

George H you can do that in this game there are dedicated specialists for it, Falk and Angel . You gonna die a lot anyways, it doesn’t matter since there is no leaderboard. Medics usually are on end screen as top performers for rezes and heals.

You're useful mostly in 64 breakthrough and, ironically, teamdeathmatch. But it still better than trying to play engineer role. Which is nonexistent in terms of usefulness now.

For years im a dedicated Retro Emulation gamer. The best games, are the old games. And you don't need new hardware for playing Retro. Not that you actually get any new hardware/GPU anytime soon... Its safe to say, after 2005 gaming was going downhill. That was the year the Xbox 360 was released. Gamedesign was changed, so games can now be played solely with a Controller in mind. Recently a forgotten game was re-relreased. Thats Severance Blade of Darkness. And just like Gothic 1&2 these games have no native Gamepad support. But i play these games with only my left hand on the keyboard. You don't even need the mouse. And these two games work unbelievably fine with just one hand. But when you now try to make them work on a Gamepad, you will realize a 1&1 copy to gamepad will not work. You run out of buttons, despite using less buttons on the keyboard to play these games. How can this be? Its simple, key combination for doing Actions and combat. Like holding the attack (action) button and insert combo commands. You can't really do that the same way with an anal stick. A compromise could be made in the design, good developers would do that. But no. Every single game since then has to be designed first and foremost for consoles. And old school developers left the industry, so the $hitheads who came after don't even know how old games were designed. Entire game design philosophies were lost over the past two decades. Since 2013 every year after was worse when it comes to video game quality. With 2021 hitting the absolute low, yet again!

I will never forget that IGN actually hired a friend of mine in high school when he was sixteen, even sent him to E3 during our junior and senior years (for reference his first go was the same year they announced the original Halo and Xbox). He had hounded them over wrestling game articles until they picked him up, and we thought that was the coolest thing ever for him, but looking back it just meant they were willing to hire sixteen year olds not even out of high school and send them places they could be easily influenced. He was a clever guy for any age, but there was no way he could keep the stars out of his eyes at a place like E3. It also meant any other "journalist" there had their name on a roster next to sixteen year olds, and what does that say about their work, their level of respectability in the field? With even this cursory, behind-the-scenes insight onto how they operate and/or got their start I would honestly feel pure shame working for IGN, especially as an adult with a degree, because this suggests it means little to nothing except that you are probably not very skilled and seen by them as someone who could be easily manipulated with a combination of carrots on sticks or swords hanging over your head. I've thought of it every time I have seen their work, since, always scratching my head why it would be ever be taken seriously. It's been long past due for them to have a few pinches of salt taken alongside the bulk of their articles, ratings, figureheads, and so on.

A little late I know, but here goes: I think you are partly right but I think we might not get a total crash but more like a partly crash in the AAA space. Both EA and Ubisoft are making moves to be taken over by a larger entity. I think we might see the AAA space being consolidated into a few (2-3 very large publishers) and the vast majority of "developement" being mobile P2W, unti such a time that legislation catches up with the industry. But that is just my theory.

Considering most of the original DICE developers that are very familiar with the tone of the game and are fluent with the Frostbite engine left and moved onto other studios like Embark Studios is likely what affected the game as well.

Was it the horribleness of Mulan and Cruella? No. Those weren't the catalyst, they were the result. What was the catalyst for this decline? *The Lion King.* "But it made money! People saw it!" you say? Yeah, exactly. A lot of people saw it, and saw how lifeless it was. Success now does NOT equal success later. A bad game/movie, with a nostalgic title, might make money now but it will sour people's perception of you. That soured perception doesn't just "go away." One thing they should've done, in particular, to adapt to 128 players is increase squad sizes to like 16, more in line with real life sizes, which are often up to 15 with sometimes teams attached to that like machinegunners. That way, you have actual groups of people moving around that can fight together, instead of the gameplay being a mix of hiking and battle royale.

Toss in the multiplayer mod, and you and your friends can take to whatever battlefield you desire. The lasguns in the 40k add-on sound fucking divine when all your dudes fire them in volleys.

I could tell early on, as most Battlefield fans were wowed by DICE's marketing, that 2042 was going to be BFV all over again. A lot players who never truly addressed BFV's chief problems, acted like BFV flopped solely due to WW1 fatigue. Surely a return to a modern Battlefield will bring back BF's glory days!

BFV had a bunch of good qualities like the gunplay and movement, which are both the best in the BF franchise (I'm serious, fight me), the graphics are stunning (although the art style is slightly worse than BF1) and I had an absolute blast playing the multiplayer (I didn't touch the campaign). 2042 doesn't have any of that

49:41 Exactly. When I played BF3 and BF4 on Xbox, I usually didn't have much for gunskill. I would have a blast, and have an impact on the game by playing Engineer or Support, and doing those jobs the best I could. Even if I knew I couldn't outshoot the average sweaty dude who is 46-3 with the AEK, I could still enjoy the game by sticking to my role and doing my job. Getting rid of the classes was a deathblow for this game, even before taking into account the dozens of other problems it has.

As someone planning on getting into game development, this was a truly helpful guide for me. Having examples of what not to do can be even more helpful then knowing what to do in some cases. Also as someone who is a soundtrack and game music enthusiast, I thought that the backwards music was not that bad. If it was being used as the introductory sound effects for some sort of eldritch killbot painted in gore and offal slowly turning towards to protagonist of a horror film. Holy fuck that must be mind numbingly awful when played forwards.

Man, I remember in the old BF games, I was always the support class. I couldn't pull off quick headshots, my reflexes weren't good enough to run through corridors and buildings without dying, but man, I knew how to get to a choke point, throw down an ammo box, claymore my back, go prone and hold down the trigger on my maxed out M249 LMG to create a near impenetrable wall of lead. The assault class guys would use my ammo crate to refill their grenade launchers and together, we'd effectively cut off one of the main paths of the enemy. But hey, now we can play as wahmen for a non-existent army, so I guess that's better.

I played it on a free to play weekend. Played Battlefield since 1942. Almost 2000 hours in BF4 and probably a few thousand hours in in BF1942. So, yea I love me some Battlefield conquest mode. The part that actually started to get physically shaking my fist at the screen was the inability to customize my load outs outside of a match. And having to select all my attachments at the beginning of every match. I noticed this troublesome trend starting with BF1, but there it wasn't too egregious because their was such limited customization of the weapons. But with 2042 you got to fuck off to some quiet corner of the map while you clicking through layers of menus. When you jump into the game, you want to be playing the game, not reading tooltips.

I worked as a journalist in Swedish gaming over a decade ago. Been to DICE's offices more times than I can remember. Why did things start to go south? Well, perhaps because they started hiring (for example) the boss of the Gaming branch organization as a game designer. Because why would a guy whose job was to repeat game corp propaganda like a parrot not be a great game designer? It was around that time that DICE began to go full SJW. The whole reason the global scoreboard wasn't a big deal in previous games was because working as a team was more important than your own score. Sure, there were always solo heroes who YOLO'd into the enemy team, but for the most part for me, the only time I ever looked at the scoreboard was to see what classes I had in my squad.

Imagine a movie theater that has a new Iron-man movie poster with Robert Downey Jr being advertised as a spinoff. So you pre-order a ticket for yourself and your family. Then, when the day comes, you go to the movies and go to buy popcorn for your family. Despite the photo showing a delicious and yet expensive popcorn bucket, you feel compelled to buy it anyways. However, you end up with a bucket of washed-out butter with some popcorn in it, like "islands in the Pacific ocean". You go to your seat and after 1 and half hours of just pure advertisements, the movie starts. What you see is a 30 minutes low-budget fan-fiction movie. There's no Robert Downey Jr, no plot, no villain, just a random dude in a homemade plastic suit, saying lines from a script written by his little sister. When you leave, because of this "live-action" definition of deception, the happy and sarcastic employee says: "Ohhh, don't be sad... We promise a sequel" This is EA in a nutshell.

Two major issues with buying/playing multiplayer games a year after released: 1) Larger ratio of hardcore fanbase and/or sweats. 2) All the DLC packs and niche content is basically abandoned, and only the fan favorite maps are played. Ie. Good luck trying to find a match on that DLC pack you paid for when everyone is running Operation Metro and Siege of Shanghai. This is why products need to be complete on release, because no amount of post day 1 patching will cease the day 1 player boom expereince. It's a flashfire, and if yoy blink you miss the opportunity for the game to be a success.

I pre-ordered this game for 60 dollars on steam. I pre installed it, and played it for the first time on launch day. In my first match, it took me about 3 seconds to aim my rifle, and by the time I did, I was dead. I thought it was just a bad server, so I exited and got into another match, where the same thing happened. So I quit the game, after playing for about 60 minutes or so. I decided that I would wait 6 months for them to fix the game. Then I thought about it for a day or so, and I said fuck it. I shouldn't have to wait 6 months for the game I already bought to be playable. So I refunded it and pre-ordered Elden Ring, because I don't learn my lesson apparently. I will purchase 2042 again, if and only if: they take specialists out and put classes back in, if they fix the stability issues, and if they lower the price to 15 dollars. Even with the bad taste in my mouth, I would give it another chance. I'm not hopeful though. If the rumors are to be believed, the next battlefield is supposed to be a hero shooter. If they go forward with that plan, the franchise will die. So I guess, if I could leave you with anything it would be this. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

FFS! Some of the vehicles need like a million kills to get the good stuff unlocked, but the game keeps resetting the kill counter (along with the counters for the weekly challenges - not that anyone cared about the rewards there, but still). They only give us multiplayer and it's stripped to the bones and even that is not working... it's like they're actively trying to shake off the veteran players by failing even the lowest possible expectations.

They can 'add content' and fix bugs, balance the vehicles and guns all they want, but unfortunatley this won't save the game. The only thing that will save the game is a severe overhaul with maps, the class system add the full in-game scoreboard the server browser.
