Thanks for the video, I loved it. I picked up a Floppy Emu bundle..I’ve never even heard about them before, but hopefully now I can breathe a little new life into my 3 old performa 630CD’s (one was my original from when I was a teen..one was a backup Quadra 630 I got off eBay like 20 years ago..and the other, I believe..I board-swapped to a 6360 Power PC) ...also my Macintosh SE, and my Power Macintosh 8600/200 tower (with AV in/out) can def use some new love as well. I haven’t messed with any of them in a long time, so it’ll be nice to re-live some old, nostalgic memories.

Loving your channel, a very fresh but informative approach and I love maccy. I am an avid Mac collector and have approximately somewhere in the region of 15- 20 Motorola 68k based macs ( I have lost count due to recent eBay orders). My favourite eBay win so far is a Macintosh Portable! I use the BMOW floppy emulator, I have used the hard disk mode to backup any macs I get working and backup any documents and programs before the hard disk potentially dies. I have also gone retro and have a box or two full of 800k disks (you can use old Amiga disks once formatted). Looking forward to the next episode.

Nice coverage and love you are using the mac to jazz it up a bit (and show that it is actually used!). Helped me make a decision which one to get first (the emu) as I decided to get an old mac plus (which has an external HD but I'll bet will eventually fail given the age of everything). I did a bit of reading and for mac plus the scsci2sd needs some special settings apparently (as it doesn't supply enough power to run it alone). Anyhow, thanks for the video!

Nice! I hope you remember us little people when you have a million subs. Currently the HD on my Mac Classic is working fine but the floppy drive needs some TLC. Boy, I sure do miss the pre OS X days. Don’t get me wrong, my daily driver is a Mac Pro and my laptop is a MacBook Pro, and I wouldn’t be without either one. But I have a lot of nostalgia for WordPerfect 3.5e on OS 9 and using Eudora for email. I still have several 3.5” floppies. I miss those days.

I've been using the external version of the SCSI2SD for a little while and my workaround for getting files from the internet onto it has been to transfer them to a disk image using Basilisk2 as my emulator, then writing that to my SD card, which erases everything and means I either have to start all over on my system 7 disk, or have two SD cards: one to boot from, get the software off of, write it to a floppy disk, and then restart the computer with another SD card, with my main OS install, and then transfer the files from the floppy disk. Way too time consuming and laborious. The Floppy EMU seems like a much better solution, so thanks for making this video! I will be taking a lot of the advice.
@MacintoshLibrarian
@MacintoshLibrarian 4 жыл бұрын
I need to get myself the adapter to use the SCSI2sd as an external SCSI drive. This might make things a bit easier when I am working on newer Macs like the Performa 6200 that I have here.... I agree, the basilisk -> SD Card route is very cumbersome. In my original cut of this video, I included some more of the trials and tribulations that I had when trying to find a way to do an easy file transfer. There are definitely some creative ways 😮 haha. I am trying to see if I can get my hands on a LocalTalk to Ethernet adapter and maybe run a file server off a raspberry pi. That way I can local talk to the server and download applications from there. Maybe a future video :)

Dual-layer DVDs are just fine for me to store all of my system 7 software on only a few discs... although it is a bit annoying for me to constantly switch from OS 8.6 back to 7.6 whenever I want a file... (as OS 7 doesn’t read DVD discs via SCSI; at least not on my 5400/180).

Great video Kate! It’s worth noting that if you have a 512k or Mac Plus, the FloppyEmu is invaluable precisely because of its hard disk function, as it allows you to load software without constantly having to mount the OS disk. I’d really like to be able to alter those images to include other games than it came with, but heretofore I’ve been unable to figure out how to do that 😕

@MacintoshLibrarian 3 жыл бұрын
It is hard to diagnose the system when you only have one board. The simple answer would be to get another Classic II and swap parts to see what’s broken. Could be a bad crt or a bad analog board. Do you hear a chime on boot?
