21st Jan 2018 Waihi Beach Snapper Fishing - NZ Style

I got up early at Waihi Beach to get a time exposure of the Sunrise over the water as we don't see this too often coming from WA and a bloke (Bro) came past on a quad bike. I couldn't work out what he was up to at the start, he looked like a fisherman but had no rods. Eventually my curiosity got the better of me and I stopped the time exposure and went over to have a look. He had a GPS navigated torpedo with dive flags on it to take his 400lb mono out 1600m with 25 baited circle hooks clipped onto the line. He left it there for 30 minutes before hooking up a battery to his winch to reel the line back in. He only got 1 Pink Snapper but lost another on the shore line. Chris said he does better at night but I have never seen, only heard about this type of fishing. There were other parties up the beach using the same. Fishing in NZ is a lot less governed, Legal size for Pink Snapper is 30cm, not 50cm like in Perth.

I enjoyed watching this, purely from wanting to see my old home town. #WaihiBeachNZ .Im One of the true born and breed kids of Waihi Beach back in 1974 I left there in 1989. My home was the first A Frame Houses on Seaforth Rd. Not sure if its still there. My DAD & MUM built it from scratch. Maorideveloper to come to the Beach to start the new trend of new designed homes that weren't "LOCKWOOD HOUSE KIT HOMES " down that end of the beach. Was great travelling with drone to see houses that I used to know. I notice with the drone you can't see the pine tree anymore. Must have been cut down. Also noticed no ones out early on low tide getting Pippies . They would be out early mornings with the old potato / onion sacks over the shoulder with their jeans rolled up. Doing the" pippie hip twisting" move on the shore line.?? Some fun facts For those city slickers who used to come down to their Batch houses on weekends. But for locals it was a every day occurrence . Some FYI History of the NOW KNOWN great Waihi Beach , city folks holiday place to go. You could buy houses for next to nothing there a while back now..

The man feel day Got all the gears . And not a woman to be seen, The birds eye view is Another great man must have. I'm feeling like catching a fish. Thanks for this man I'm going there in a fortnight to go diving around that point and Hopefully enjoy my dive
