A small glimpse into what goes on during spring on one of the UKs largest arable farms! The Elveden Estate is a 22,500 acre country estate in North-West Suffolk, England. Growing 6% of the UKs onions alongside a large area of potatoes, carrots, wheat, barley, rye and sugar beet the farm runs a fleet of 25 Fendt tractors or various sizes. In this video you can see what goes on during the potato planting campaign from primary cultivations to planting. Enjoy!

WOW cracking video! Some Kit there!!! Fantastic soil too 👌🏻The must do other crops as part of rotation 🤔 AND why not wider spud planters???

@@jascollinscork Thanks! Yes they also grow Onions, Carrots, Sugarbeet, Maize, Wheat, Barley and Rye! Having 3 smaller planters means they can be split up if needed to plant a different variety

weird how one might think its some kind of bad rule, but ends up being the plant that can feed millions. Ever hear of the irish potato famines? That is what happens, when potatoes have disease and going to bed hungry, it is hard to fall asleep and easy to wake up, being that hungry after digesting those calories. You'll all find out what is CG and LG is, when it is not even zombie

When you’re destoning why don’t you take the stones away for other uses like drainage etc & doesn’t it cause problems depositing them in a line like that?
@BritishAgriPhotography
@BritishAgriPhotography 6 ай бұрын
@@DarrenPhillips001 Thanks for the question. If we took the stones away the soil would totally blow away, the stones help provide structure. Otherwise a lot of our land would be like a beach. They are placed in a line and just get ran over, but they are away from the growing area of the potato, hope that makes sense?
@DarrenPhillips001
@DarrenPhillips001 6 ай бұрын
@@BritishAgriPhotography thank you for that. Yes I can see the benefits in terms of giving the soil ‘body’. Sorry to be a pain but you’re not redistributing the stone evenly back into the soil after piling them up in a line. Shall I just shut up 🤣
@BritishAgriPhotography
@BritishAgriPhotography 6 ай бұрын
@@DarrenPhillips001 no it’s good to have questions… yes they are being put back in a line but once the vegetable crop has finished growing the ground will be cultivated and the stones will soon get mixed up again. We sometimes do have issues with wind blowing away soil of the vegetable beds which have had the stones removed. The farm did trial having stones removed from a field several years ago… you couldn’t tell though the field is just as stoney as ever now!
