Cronwall PORTH Beach
22/07/2020
Porth beach, on the eastern side of Newquay, is very popular with families and has a large area of flat golden sand that offers safe bathing. There's level access to the beach and there is pleasant walking around Porth Island.
Beautifully positioned on the north coast of Cornwall between the Newquay beaches and Watergate Bay sits Porth Beach, a lovely sandy beach popular with families due to its expanse of golden sands, making it ideal for children to play and build sandcastles.
Set in a deep inlet, Porth is a narrow beach with gently sloping sand. The long tidal drop reveals many beautiful rock pools and some fascinating sea life; in addition, due to its position being protected by headlands on both sides, it is very sheltered.
There is a narrow footbridge from the beach where visitors can access Porth Island on which lies Trevelgue Head, an impressive ancient cliff fort and settlement. Across the road from the beach you will find several cafes and a pub.
It is important to remember that surfing is not permitted during the summer season at this lifeguarded beach and there is a dog ban from Easter to September.
