The M3 can be tuned to 950-1050 fps with 40-44 gr slugs which will almost exactly match the power and accuracy of the 40 gr Eley Match that you're using. It isn't a matter of airgun vs firearm for hunting in the same caliber--it is the bullet/slug/pellet weight, velocity, type of bullet (HP, solid, copper plated, etc), composition of bullet/slug/pellet (soft lead, hard lead, etc.), and of course the noise level that either is appropriate or not for the hunting you are doing. Otherwise, I appreciate the effort you put into these videos in trying to make comparisons. Thanks.

I shoot some cheap federal 22's and they are hitting 1260 fps. 950 fps is subsonic and not nearly a powerful as a standard 22lr. You are comparing max power of the air rifle to the least powerful 22lr. Apples to oranges.

@mikewhitman745 The .22lr may produce more energy but not by much. My M3 800 mm .22 is pushing a 40 grain boattail hp at about 1040 fps 96 fpe and 1060 fps 100 fpe on a hot day, and it is not even turned up to the max. My spread is 5 fps with 10 shots. 30 shots is usually a spread of 8 fps. All I'm saying is they both have their place, but don't underestimate the compressed air. Lol!

Hey, nice video👍 here in Australia I tend to use a 17hmr on small game, absolute devastating round at 100mtrs. Only issue is it’s quite a bang even when suppressed. A 22lr is great but the 17hmr is more consistent and the round disintegrates on impact.

Yes and because you're shooting slugs which have a much higher ballistic coefficient and are not affected by wind anyway near as much as pellets and they are much flatter shooting and maintain their velocity and impact energy as well. As to letiality the FX loaded with Hybrid air rifle slugs (very soft near pure lead hollow points) are actually More Lethal than standard or Hollow point 22 rimfire ammunition. Far more tissue damage and larger wound cavity and for practical purposes the Air rifle round expends very nearly 100% of it's stored kinetic energy inside the target animal
@dougiefresh3767
@dougiefresh3767 2 ай бұрын
@jerrykmack3074 I know all about ballistic coefficients and gyroscopic stability and twist rates and spin drift and everything else, and yes, air rifle ammo is more expansive than 22lr. That's all I do is test airgun ammo from manufacturers. In my own opinion, AVS and Griffin ammo are far more superior to the rest. I use JBM ballistics and game animals to test their ammo, and those 2 companies seem to do the best as far as bc and energy transfer go in my own opinion.

They also shoot competition for FX with airguns against 22 rimfires and beat them every year in the PRS matches! So , yeah ur 22 airgun is actially better. The FX panthera is a monster too. It beat out the competitions last year! In 22 cal💥💪💪💪🎯🤣👍

Just found your channel. Good comparison on the pellet and long rifle. I think that it could be a closer contest if you shot a .22CB against the pellet. The CB, though still heavier, is much lighter than the long rifle. I use the. 22CB's when rabbit and squirrel hunting in the country, and a .177 1200fps when around any dwellings. Especially starlings and house sparrows in my back bird feeders. Lots of fun and a great, cheap way for a lover of the outdoors to keep his seventy-five year old scope eye in tune.

Man you have all this money and buy all these guns but don't know jack about them. You legit need to put the time and research into a gun before you make a video on it. FX sells slug liners for a reason.. because their normal liners are a slower twist rate, they dont do well with slugs, especially heavier slugs. I think you are a very bright young man and have a great channel and good content, but learning all the ins and outs of a specific airgun before you make a video of it would make your channel even better. Not just for your own knowledge, but so you can pass that knowledge on to the viewer that may be considering a certain gun you use in one of your videos. No disrespect meant, just a little constructive criticism.

I was shooting with a slug liner when I was trying to tune for slugs. For guns like that I do spend a lot of time learning them before doing any filming. My experience trying to get FX rifles to consistently shoot slugs accurately has been horrible though. I know how to tune one to shoot slugs accurately but that accuracy only lasts about one magazine before the groups open up. And I've seen other people have the same problem. FX rifles are the only "slug guns" I have tried so far. I plan on trying some other brands in the future that claim they can shoot slugs accurately.

Energy is energy.. 22 subs at 40 grains at 980-1000fps is no different than a 40 grain 22 slug at the same velocity. The energy at target will be about the same as well because the BC will be basically identical. The soft pure lead slugs we have in the pcp world are damn devastating at around 1000fps on shots 100y and in. The energy transfer on those slugs is much higher than it is on much harder 23 lr slugs not to mention the airgun slugs have a much larger hollow point and cavity. Some of the griffin slugs I have leaving at around 75ftlbs and reaching the target at 60-65ftlbs on short shots... those slugs will not pass thru a Grey squirrel on a heart lung shot. It's amazing the sound they make on flesh is nuts. That instant energy transfer is nasty. On birds it literally sounds like a fire cracker going off.

@blockethoutdoors This was an unfair comparison as you did not tune your FX M3 to shoot higher grain slugs at higher velocities. I have an M3 22 cal, and I have it tuned to shoot 38gr slugs at roughly 1000fps which is 80 plus Ft/lbs of energy. I can guarantee the FX will put down those ground hogs very easy, I hunted coyotes with no issues. Love the work but tune your FX for the job and move to slugs, you will be amazed what you can hunt.

I'm a 60 year old Texan, a lifelong hunter, ex military and police. I don't think posting videos of yourself killing every animal that walks or flies by is a great idea. We already have so many groups that are anti hunting and anti gun, trying to take these things away from us... Then they tune into KZbin to find some kid shooting every ground squirrel and songbird that wanders by. I know starlings are an invasive species that cause damage, etc etc... but even knowing that, it's a hard sell, watching your videos, to say you're protecting ... Anything. I don't care how many starlings you shoot, but I do care about hunting rights, and even more about gun rights. I think you're damaging both . Yes, it's silly, I agree... But everything the left does is silly, but that doesn't seem to bother them.

My friend, I would suggest you use hollow point pellets or slugs and see the difference when you shoot a pest animal. Also 950 fps is not the max for an FX Impact in 22 cal. I have a FX Crown that will spit 18 grains @ 975 fps and thats with a 380 barrel. I also own a Impact in 25 and 30 cal and I can shoot pellets or slugs at sub sonic speeds. I also have a sidewinder in 25 cal that will push 48 grain slugs at 900 fps and thats without even close to being maxed out. Not trying to rain on your videos, I'm just telling you what these guns are capable of if tuned properly. I wish I could give you some subsonic numbers but then they might come knocking on my door. lol

You ever think of trying edgun Leshy air rifles? They look good enough for groundhogs

The FX M3 is a slug gun, not a pellet gun. Get hold of some H&N 27, 30 and 40 grainers, get the gun set up right, and you will retract your stated perceptions on the PCP vs LR performance. Would love to see you revisit this test with the correct ammo.

PCP vs shotgun would be interesting, as I believe there are locales in the US where hunting with rifles is prohibited.

Sorry for the second comment but use heavier pellets or slugs in that M3 bro. I would use 30-40 grain slugs and you will get the same accuracy at 100 yards as your .22LR bud. And the best part is that they are more affordable, just as accurate, and super quiet.

Both are tools for specific purposes! I'm sure the 2nd ground hog pulled the 1st one in the hole. If your shot on the 2nd one was 1/4" to the right out would have been dead on the spot. It's dead, just not right there. Keep the videos coming. I enjoy them. Maybe toss out cut up apples to get them out a tiny bit more to get better kill shots.

Not a fair comparison, taking into account that the m3 is probably around 4 thousand dollars how its set up
