Why would you prefer .22WMR over .22LR when both have 45 grain subsonic and the cost per round is .36 and .09 respectively? Just wondering if there is some other factor favoring the additional ammo cost. My go-to for this scenario is a 9mm pistol caliber rifle with 147 grain subsonic at about .30 cents a round or subsonic hollow point at closer to .60 a round but I chose more expensive ammo to gain 102 extra grains of bullet weight.

Wish you would have shot a regular .22 mag so we could hear the difference. Anyway, subsonic ammo used with a suppressor is great for squirrels, stray cats, rabbits, rats, groundhogs, etc.

Man, that is quiet! The speed of sound is 1125 fps...so those mags must be real low speed. The ones I use are 1825 to 2250 fps.

My thoughts exactly. What's the point? A .22 mag. is just a faster moving 22 lr. Reducing it's velocity is pointless unless you don't own a .22lr. and want to make do. .22lr rounds with very heavy bullets moving subsonically are readily available.

@Blue collar Hero .22LR does indeed fit in the breech of a .22 mag. It may split the brass and may not be accurate but it fits. >22mag brass was made larger to prevent the possibility of injuries when used in very old .22 LR. However I was not saying you should fire them in .22mag rifles. I said why would you buy a subsonic .22 mag for use in a .22 mag unless you didn't also own a .22lr because heavy subsonic LR rounds are readily available.

Not exactly, because the 22 Lr can't hold a candle to the 22 magnum when using full power ammo. Bur you are correct that the the 22 mag doesn't gain anything over the Lr with subsonic ammo. I personally wish they would have made a heavier grain offering for the sub sonic 22 magnum....60 grains or more mayne

I seriously doubt you will kill a hog with any subsonic .22 cal bullet. Not enough energy there for success on hogs, especially if they are over about 20#. Better stick to small varmints with that. Even then, shot placement will be critical for success.

Bro some on you tube taking hogs with a 22lr subsonic up too 400lb. Didn't think it was possible myself as had issues with subsonics in South Africa on duiker. The built never even made it to the lungs. Had to take it with a 223. Never touch subsonics again

@@christiannelson730 I have been hunting hogs for 20+ years and use 6.8 SPC supersonic, 44 magnum both super sonic and subsonic, and .223 both supersonic and subsonic. After killing more than a thousand hogs, I would never dream of trying to kill a hog over 20# with the .223 subsonic. I do not believe anyone has ever killed a 400# hog with a subsonic .22LR unless maybe with the muzzle held to the hog’s head. Even then, I’m not convinced it would do the job.

Good luck killing a hog with a subsonic 22 rimfire. It's as quiet as a BB gun, and about as powerful.. Invest in a .300 blackout. 220 grains of subsonic lead beats 30 grains every time.
