the ismell could actually probably be used to great effect for things like meditation and general stress relief; can you imagine being able to call up the smell of petrichor on demand? or a field of flowers? the smell of a bonfire? the beach? combine that with some asmr and it kinda sounds magical tbh
@yeetingat100subs9
@yeetingat100subs9 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what kind of technology you think it would be able to have but it’s impossible to just create any imaginable smell on earth from a little device like that. It would have a decent number of options hopefully but it wouldn’t be able to produce every possible smell, and replicating the smell of for example a bonfire most likely wouldn’t turn out to be quite as nice as a real bonfire
@QuestionableLifeChoices
@QuestionableLifeChoices Жыл бұрын
@@yeetingat100subs9 dude he just said they were literally making custom fart smells, meaning it was possible to create your own to some degree. And all of these are pretty freaking common smells, especially if it were to be marketed as a meditation tool. If science can make a jelly bean taste exactly like pizza, getting the smell of burning wood is a no brainier 🙄

The Netherlands had quite a solid system for covid tracking. It constantly sends out a Bluetooth signal containing a code. When you are close to someone else, it exchanges codes. Once someone was tested positive in an official testing facility, they would send a notification to all phones that pinged your code the past 5 days. Fully anonymous, no data tracking, no GPS, just a smart use of Bluetooth. And most important; it was quite cheap to develop.
@SuvuIC
@SuvuIC 11 ай бұрын
They also used a very similar system here in Norway! Using Bluetooth and swapping codes
@rjmunro
@rjmunro 9 ай бұрын
@@SuvuIC And so did the UK. The £37 billion figure for the app is wrong, it was more like £35 *million*. £37 billion was the whole cost for setting up all the Covid testing centres and stuff. The app was a bit of a mess because they wanted to use Bluetooth in a way that is not allowed on iOS. Apparently the developer found some sort of workaround, which was fine for testing, but meant the app was rejected by the Apple review process, so that had to convert to doing a standard Covid app using the APIs specifically provided by Google and Apple, like everyone else. I don't think the vertical thing is true, although bluetooth can probably travel through a single floor and therefore get a false alarm.

My favourite addition to the Track and Trace app was that it also didn't take into account vertical distance, so if you're on the bottom floor of a skyscraper, and someone pings 100 floors up, guess what: you've got covid!

The Vita was such a well designed and fun console. Sony just gave up on it too soon. They needed fun games, marketing, and a price drop. But that all cost money that they didn’t have in the early 2010s when they were in a dire financial situation. I still loved my vita and I played it all throughout my high school days.
@Officewaffle
@Officewaffle 10 ай бұрын
Also, the resurgence of the 3ds after it initially struggled should have proven to Sony that the vita could recover. It was more powerful than the 3ds and had a better control setup, if they had tried to turn things around then people would have likely developed for it.

None of them actually managed to mix smells to create believable new ones(only mixed the given ones in a SINGLE experience) ,the prob always was that for every experience u would need specific cartridges which is very unpractical,so u only see it in amusment parks which run the same experience on a daily basis. home use was allready dead atm they annouced it and most people did realise that,Ismell and a likes wasnt rly new too tbh our warner brothers park uses that for more than 10 years. so yeah it earns its spot here and it wasnt ahead of its time

Back in the 90s, IE had a major advantage, since Microsoft integrated a lot of proprietary tech into it and then sold webpage development tools that would liberally use them. Since those tools were integrated into IE and not available to other browsers like Netscape, a lot of pages only rendered properly when viewed on IE (and in case of ActiveX controllers, on Windows OS). This also led Microsoft to create a frankenbrowser called Internet Explorer for Unix (based systems).

I remember having both the PSP and the Vita Some of the major upgrades for me were moving away from the disks in those barely protective shells, to an actual cartridge. Bringing the touch pad tech over from the PS4 controller. The fact that it was able to connect to, and be used in conjunction with, a PS4. These things made it really stand out as a handheld. The PSVITA made me legitimately sad. The problem is, it was an incredible console, and still is today if you can get your hands on one and a custom SD Card to PSVITA card converter. You can jailbreak it and download free games and even a PSP emulator, which is incredible. As Arun said, though, initial sales are what matters in the long term.

Great console and not expensive, i mean like just s console. But games and sd card were so expensive that people just quit from it. And why wouldn they. Imagine you buy the console and you dont have space for few games. But they build problem than they make a solution for the problem they make. I know that money is important but you cant be a dic*. And there sre few exsmples. Like vita or that party scamer ending in jail. And now world know him as a scammer who screwed up many people, and even the place where it was is not his😂😂😂. The OnePlus Watch, while not being able to call without a host or even run anything but the download apps like Spotify with also songs on the watch, it was damn good I feel. Durability was amazing for the price point also, I wasn't easy at all on it and even kept it on in the shower with a cracked screen for half a year and that wasn't what killed it. But you could customize alot of stuff with it and it had so many exercise types so you could track down to the style of lift you used, which honestly I think wasn't warranted. It had NFC so I could pay "otf". I wish I could find another for sale, I don't want to bust my Samsung Watch at work.

That iSmell seems like a great idea to me. Being able to pump smells out while playing a VR game, for example, would seriously add to the Immersion. The smell of burning or gun powder for a war game, or the smell of flowers for one of those calming VR experiences, or literally anything else. How the hell did this idea not take off? Even if you had to sell specific 'smell packs' to use for each particular game or app. I would buy those up in minute.

-Cost/access of refills. How many physical copies of games do you buy? Would you re-buy the Skyrim scent pack when you run out? -Lingering smells. You just finished a round of Tarkov and want to switch over to Minecraft. The fresh breeze smell is overtaken by the old gunpowder smell. -Resolution. How many vials would you be willing to refill/maintain/pay some service to maintain? You could have tailored scents for certain games but 5 scents for 10 games is a rack full of 50 scents that all run empty. I have always been intrigued by the idea of incorporating the neglected senses into VR, but currently I don't think taste or scent is going to be done well.

So when switching to pc using windows XP all games ran very smooth, as XP was the absolute best option for running games. Switching to vista, none of my games would work because they werent even optimized for vista to begin with, none the less, when the games got optimized for vista i still couldnt run then because of how much RAM was already being used just to run my operating system.

The part about the Marvel characters not looking like the actors, because while marvel is biggest with the MCU, the actors were picked based on how they resembled the characters in the comics. We used to go to the local equivalent after school a lot of the time, just spend ages browsing movies we knew we wouldn't get to see for a few years, plus because New Zealand was basically living in the past, for a while some stores were getting new release DVDs before the movies were even in our theaters! (the theater chains would buy second hand touched up reels to screen six months after movies were released in the US lol... that had to stop when they tried to get the government to pass a law banning importing dvds of movies that hadn't screened at theaters yet, and everyone realised what they were doing and they were forced to start buying reels the same time they came out in the US.

The Blockbuster one is wild to think about. Remembering when Blockbuster was on top, and then right after it went down and Netflix was relevant for a little bit. What a weird time.

PS Vita is such an amazing handheld. I swear Sony tried to kill it intentionally with their ridiculous proprietary SD cards and the Vita game library was quite limited unless you are a fan of JRPGs. At least it's been hacked so that you can use normal microSD cards in it now and run tons of emulators on it, it's an absolutely amazing system when it's jailbroken. Definitely my favorite handheld system of all time

The Vita was already a bastardization of the PSP, they just wanted to get away from the UMD format they screwed up (again, they are stupidly stingy about their media formats).

They didn’t have the games to back it up. Nintendo Fucking kicked their ass when it comes to their library on their handheld systems

I remember begging my mom for a vita and then getting one with uncharted and killzone . It was the most amazing piece of technology I ever owned relative to the year it launched in , it’s a shame they made literally NO games for it . I could swear I would have enjoyed it today if they didn’t literally kill their own console

Hearing how much money was wasted on that NHS app LITERALLY made me feel panicked. The amount of pure incompetence required for the development to cost even a FRACTION of that much is beyond absurd.

now imagine Malaysia actually bought the same app from them for RM70m (according to the gov) and it constantly crashes.
