i like 22 Frets better in General because i don't get as much confused on the fretboard compared to 24 Frets. Having said that i own a 22 Frets Guitar with Neck Pickup Position of a 24 Frets (Washburn N24) 😁

I prefer 24 frets because I like to have the 2 octave range for soloing if needed but I could go either way with them since I don’t always use the 23rd and 24th fret

I'm a new guitar enthusiast and I've realised that "tone" is a rabbit hole I want to steer clear of. Everything makes a difference, but in most cases the difference is so small and can be overridden by something else.

I agree. To me, the "feeling" part is way more important. Have fun with your new journey!

How is a 22fret closer in fret spacing? Wouldnt it be the same because of scale length but with two more frets
@chocolatecookie8571

With the internet nowadays guitarists has learned much more about their guitars things they never knew before, also because nobody talked about it. For me I never knew that a Les Paul had a shorter scale length than a strat guitar. I have many more examples including about the difference in neck sound between 22 and 24 frets.

24 frets is the winner to me. I like more the higher end clarity on it that is helping to cut through the mix. + you can always get some muddier sound rolling off the tone knob, but getting more crystal clear sound is not possible. Also the higher fret access is way better on 24 frets guitars. To conclude I would say go for 22 for a very classic strat tones. 24 frets would be my go to with more polyvalence Have you tried them with the ton knob at 10 ? On charvel it is removing the tone from the circuit and this makes a difference. Great review thanks a lot for sharing !!

Isn't 24 fret wired differently in position 2? Not sure if all, but certain dk24 guitars we're wired neck + split bridge in position 2 which would explain more "twangy" tone.

My dk24s are my best guitars, and generally I prefer having the extra range. I use those extra two frets a lot and I miss them when they're not there. I genuinely also love their tone but I appreciate what you say here too- both have a lot of merit. If you like the idea of a 22 fret HH Charvel, I recommend the San Dimas Old Yella which shares the same pickups as the dk24 HH but with coil split instead of series/parallel. The only drawback is the neck join isn't sculpted but it's fine if you're used to strats. Nice playing by the way dude, good to hear some more hendrixy vibes as well on these guitars for a change, they can handle anything!
@TheGuitalian

Hey thanks man, appreciated! Yeah, I love the san Dimas too, but if I'm not mistaken, they just come with a Floyd Rose. It would be nice to have the standard tremolo as well and the sculpted heel too

To me, I could really tell the difference on the neck pick up because of the positioning difference, where the 22 sounded better. More harmonically, rich, also warmer. I like it a lot more. I’ve never liked the neck pick up on my DK 24. Although the fact that it’s a hacker helps.

This is a great video. In all the years, I never thought of it this way. I don't play up to the higher frets really but I think I now realize that I don't like 24 frets on a 25.5" scale. The frets are closer together on a 24 fret. you're fitting in 2 more frets, so they are closer together, correct? that's what it feels like to me and I hate that. I feel crammed.
@ericajohnson7535
@ericajohnson7535 11 ай бұрын
the most noticeable difference is the neck pickup doesn't have that "strat" "SRV" sound on the 12th fret. That's pretty much it. Instead it has it on the 14th fret.

The Blue Gtr sounds clearer and the Pink is more Congested, now don't you think the difference can be the same as when you play 2 identical Guitars and there is one that sounds better than the other one?? I am saying..it is hard to tell until you make this test with many other guitars of 22 and 24 FRETS?

I get your point, although I was pretty much expecting these sonic results, as they are already well known. What I didn’t expect was the feeling and the geometry aspect of the whole thing. Anyway, I wanted to share this in order to have these thoughts in mind while we choose a guitar, sometimes knowing these kind of details can help to be more “sensitive” while choosing

I have the DK22 and they are really nice. Light weight, great pick ups etc. However, while this is an excellent video, I have an idea how to increase viewership. Make a series of videos with tabs on each of the killer riffs you do in this video (or other riffs). Cite the writer if it isn't original. I'm subscribing in hopes that you do so. It's the riffs that kept me fascinated.

22 fret better to bend because less tension, fret 24 is more flat because is longer neck.
@raytorvalds3699
@raytorvalds3699 11 ай бұрын
I hope you're kidding. When it's the same scale length, there is no difference in tension (with the same pitch). It's just 2 frets more (and shifting the neck pickup more towards the bridge).

@@TheGuitalian I don't have a video but I had come to notice that humbuckers in 24 frets have that difference you noticed here but just more noticable. It makes rythm nicer IMHO but leads is where you start messing some of that dept/full body. For some reason true single coils and humbucker in single coil format seems to have less of this effect, I had noticed already in some other demos, there is this guy who compared full sized duncan 59 neck vs lil 59 neck in a couple of 24 fret guitars. Don't get me wrong, I completely I gree with all you said in your video but I think as single coil format seems to have less change in tone and the same conconlusions cannot apply wiht full size humbuckers.

I don’t know how to explain this, but I would much rather listen to the 22. To me it just sounds so much better. The 24 sounds kind of dead honestly, and just boring to listen to. Which is a shame because that’s the one that I own… lol Mine has hookers, and I just play on the bridge and shred with it so I guess it’s cool, but in a comparison like this with clean, I definitely like the 22. The 24 doesn’t even sound musical in my opinion. Like it’s just boring.

Good luck getting the neck pickup on a 24 fret guitar to sound like a 22 fret. Theres no amount of tone tinkering or EQ that will make it so. You cant EQ a pickup to sound like its under a different section of string. The harmonics are all different.
