just a quick hint .. if you anneal your brass first it will size the first try.. anneal = heat the brass annealing soften the brass and will slide into your sizer easily ..
@jamesananopulos93199 жыл бұрын
Matt, found your video, have the sizer, and cut down the pusher to .188 to .190 to fit the 22 jacket. Works great. Thanks for the info

I like your video but there was some voice problems if this a one of a kind thing disregard this comment but if not you may want to remake the video. I could not understand half of what you said the sound quality was that bad. Thanks

Yes, would love to see where you went to from here. I am seriously looking at swaging my own 223 and I am glad I found this video. Real curious as to the next steps you took to actually may a jacketed 223 round. I hope you have figured this out. I cast my own bullets for my handguns and large caliber rifle not the 223 and this would be the next step for me to get into. Especially now.

Great video, thanks for sharing.

I'm going to go this way, I will definitely anneal the cases prior to swaging (de-rimming) for the simple fact that it will soften the brass & won't take so much force to push through the die, saving both the case & lifespan of die.

only if the weight of the jacket is a certain percentage of the total projectile weight... cant remember the percentage off the top of my head, but on these it makes a very thin jacketed projectile and is nowhere near the limit

I have an older Corbin die. It has a carbide insert, the lee die is going to be a lot softer and will not wear well.

I have owned the lee .224 sizing die just for the reason for sometime now! Great to see someone else is doing it and made a youtube vid. How is it coming along? I am in the process of making a punch for mine to draw the rim off. I swage other bullets using 40 S&W cases for jackets on 45's and 44's. How are you coring and point forming your 224's?

yeah, but it is a huge pita and ill never make another. there are others out there with better ways of doing it, so id follow their lead. my way involved a piece of allthread and a piece of carbide cut in the shape of a half bullet to cut the "chamber" out, then an 1/8 hole to knock the finished projectile out.
@eadccomponents88978 жыл бұрын
Hey man great video but audio is terrible make it again! Also- put all the 22 cases in a bag and spray the whole lot with linox (spray lanolin) you wont have to do each bullet individually ;) Also be sure to anneal the cases first

Maybe you got super hearing... I don't know. I can hear half the words but than half is cut off. More important is how long does it take to re-shoot 5 min video when you realize you screwed up? People are so lazy it's unbelievable, they rather upload this shit anyway! I've re-shot my video like 4 times and still decided not to post it because I wasn't satisfied with my my rambling getting side tracked.
@north616 жыл бұрын
Look at it this way. You have 46,000 views. That could drive a lot of subscribers. Re-shoot the video and post a link in this one to a more audible version if you want to drive subscribers up. If not interested in subscriber growth then actually the video does give the necessary job of allowing a person to repeat what you have done on their own. It's up to you and depends on what you want to achieve. Good luck and thanks for the idea.

Im looking for an update to this. How is this still working out for you? How are you point forming them? Can we see a completed bullet made? Thanks man appreciate this...
@77hendojj12 жыл бұрын
If the rim is actually unfolded like it should be in that process they should shoot pretty well, however if in that process your pin is undersize and/or rounded it just folds the rim up along the case walls and therefore makes a bullet which does not have a square base and therefore not very accurate.

Can you do 224 swagging video(s) from start to end(finishing bullet)? I am very interested to learn how to do it on the cheap. Thanks.

matt45williams, I see you were here 20 hours ago. I am curious did you figure out how to swage the case?? I am about ready to do like you and get the 22 lr cases ready. I have the LEE size die for cast bullets and I am going to order an extra push rod to do like you did, but I would like to know if you have figured out the rest.

Do you anneal the cases at any point? I've heard that some of the rimfire brass tends be a little more prone to cracking if not annealed.

Matt, thank you for the video. How did this turn out? What bullet mold do you use for your bullet jackets?
@joeshmoe1230123011 жыл бұрын
maybe try a bullet pointing die and then the meplat trimmer from sinclair international. If you dont want a hollow point you can forget the meplat trimmer. Let me know if you got a system down. Im trying to figure out how to do this too. Thanks.

i thought brass jacketed ammo was illegal and ATF regulated for it armor piercing capabilities?
@edstimator17 жыл бұрын
nope, very very wrong
@KurtOnoIR4 жыл бұрын
No there is something about a percentage of the thickness of the jacket to the core for certain alloys if I remember right but with brass and copper I know you can go solid projectile still. Hence the Underwood ammo stuff thats available.
@TexasRushing11 жыл бұрын
You might want to either read your ammo boxes more carefully or get a pair of glasses. The ammo you buy at the retailer is copper jacketed "not brass". Why do you think they sell copper solvent to remove copper build up from your barrel, not brass solvent? Some rounds "cast bulltes" are simply a lead/zink mix but I wouldn't use these in a high power rifle unless you want to do alot of cleaning.
@edstimator17 жыл бұрын
You're pickin nits brother. Brass is referred to as brass. Not copper, not copper alloy, nope brass is brass is brass. Get with the program.
@sjeverett756 жыл бұрын
+edstimator1 he's saying that when you buy ammo its jacketed with copper not brass. hes not referring to the brass case. what he doesnt understand is that swaging bullets with spent brass casing for jackets has been around for a while. lots of people use .40 brass to swage .45bullets. His problem is he spoke before knowing what hes talking about.
@sjeverett756 жыл бұрын
Dude, try learning something. swaging bullets with brass has been around for a long time. We're not dealing with store bought copper jacketed bullets. this is brass swaged bullets.
@KurtOnoIR4 жыл бұрын
There's a ton of mil surp ammo around with brass jackets, cupro nickel and all sorts of alloy blends. Brass is fine for high powered rifles but I'd be more worried about the swaging process itself. If that jacket isn't tight it can shed, leaving you with a partial bore obstruction. Although his is not open tip so I'd think it should be ok. Only one way to find out.

did you swage for 223 ar-15 make another video finish the bullet

@matt45williams Wondering if your kin to Rick from White Co. You remind me of Edward Norton and that was an interesting idea. Do they fire fine?
@matt45williams11 жыл бұрын
LMAO... you don't actually have much experiance with metals do you... most every projectile is either cast lead... definately not brass. or copper jacketed, and while copper is a component of brass, it is not brass. yes after this video was made, i tried annealing the brass which helped substansially with the ease of swaging out the rim, but made the bases try to tear off more often, so i stuck with waiting to anneal until after this step

@@DisgustedGenXr Brass, look up the composition for yourself, copper is too soft & coats the barrel liner.
