Today we pulled a 6.0, tore it down, and rebuilt it all in the dirt and rain.
Next up we'll decide which heads to run and haul it down to the engine dyno and see what a guy can expect to get for his 220 bucks and a few hours in the junkyard.

I’m the old guy that said cheap is good a week or two ago. Today I scored all the accessories, and I mean all down to the bolts, even the flywheel bolts for $300.00. I now have a 6.0 complete even the exhaust manifolds for $400. It can be done, just not sitting on the couch. The kid I got them from is building a 427 for his race truck and is sponsored so he can do what he wants.

I honestly don't know where you guys are finding these engines.... Ive wasted days walking yards and made who knows how many calls trying to find any complete ls engine in the greater Phoenix area. The vehicles never even make it to them. Junkyards halfway laugh at you when you ask, and if they do actually have one, it's laying in the mud getting rained on and they want 1500 for it (just went through that yesterday)... I have found 2 vehicles in the pick and pull lots that would have had ls engines in them at one time and they're nothing more than shells that have been there a long time... The rebuilders get them here, or the guys with ties to the insurance guys... Lots of people here with advice on where to get them and when, but theyve never gotten one and none of that ever works out..... I would love to do an ls swap, (I build hotrods and do custom metalwork for a living) but as of yet still can't obtain a decent one with under 175000 miles for under 1000... I will pay 100 bucks to anyone who can get me an ls engine with under 150000 documented miles complete with ecu for under 500...

Man, that sucks. Here in the Bay Area, the pick n pulls get a lot of LS and Lq’s but you gotta be quick to get one. They at least make it to the yard though. Sounds like some shady stuff is happening over there.

You are in my opinion the LS/VORTEC guru man. I think it's awesome that you are doing this and I really appreciate it. The way you show all the steps it take to simply get it done on a budget. I subscribed to you channel and have watched a lot of your ls videos and all parts of this build. It also gives me more confidence to go into the pick & pull in my area here in Dallas TX and pull me a LQ9. That's the engine I want to swap into my 1996 Impala SS. I was 13 in 96 and have always had a sweet spot for the B body Impala's. I want it to have the performance of a modern car and still have the look and originality of what the car should be without spending an arm and a leg just to stroke the original LT1 350 rated at 260 crank hp just to get maybe 360 to 380 crank hp out of it when I can swap a LQ9 and make 400 crank hp and prob 500 with a cam. Keep the vids coming man.

If I'm needing mechanical parts, I typically look for vehicles that have been wrecked and driven to the scene of the accident. That way you know for a fact that the engine and such were running well enough to be driving around. Stay clear of the vehicles with moss or tree sap on them, as they may have unknown pre-existing mechanical issues (like the vehicle broke down and were parked in someone's yard for a while before getting taken to the junkyard). Just use some common sense/ detective skills when trying to decipher the history of the vehicle, then you will be able to generally know the condition/life of the engine and trans.

I'm on the fence about a LS 6.0 and a 383 stroller motor build for my ratrod. I have an entire truck to pull everything from on this build. But I want different can injectors and heads. Then programming it all up and taking it to someone is the minimum of 500$$$ bucks and up to dunk and tune it all to make it run right. Then I can go the way of MSD box to control the ignition amd run a carb which kind of defeats the LS swap for me. What do you think sir? Love your channel

hammer a drifter at the head of a 10mm bolt, the rustic threads will shake loose, then wrench it out without breaking that little bolt! same principle for loosing the 12,13,14mm bolts. You must have been asked before, but, would you source a 6.0 complete with everything ready to drop into a Miata or RX8 or something, would you source it, pack it and send it to Ireland for cost plus expenses plus whatever you want?

@@skylineandscooby There's a gentleman (actually he's kind of a jerk, but solid guy :D), in my Facebook group by the name of Jason Brown. He pulls these all day in junkyards and sells them locally as well as ships them. I'm sure if you're willing to help him witht he customs work and whatnot, he'd be willing to ship you an engine. Also, the Izuzu NPR trucks have 6.0's in them, if you have some local place all the smashed lorries go to.

Locally or when traveling? Search pick and pull, u pull, you pull, lkq. Im in ohio so rust free southern parts are nice. Hang out and drink coffee in local gas stations in the morning in rural areas. Have a couple beers at a local hole in the wall type bar in the evening.

Sooo, I can get a complete 6.0 V8 with all the computer stuff, harness, headers, everything for $220 at the yard?! You now have me wondering what it would cost to 6.0/4L80 swap an 03 4x4 1500 ext cab... and you have me wondering what this LS droid thing is. Hmmm... depending on the price to swap, I’ll do it. Ok. I’m going to watch your playlists for LS swap stuff. Really want to learn. I haven’t even bought the (my first)truck yet. Just a couple hundred off. I’m working hard. I’ve been researching how to make it better for towing 25ft enclosed trailers with racecars in them, beat my friends who want to race me in their V8 mustangs with awful ricer exhaust and lambo doors, tow my brothers around with sleds tied to the trailer hitch when it snows, you get the point. I don’t know if I should upgrade the stock 5.3 with junkyard parts or swap it. 6.0? 6.2? 7.something? 8.1? I don’t know. Online forums haven’t really helped too much at all. You seem like a very knowledgeable guy who’s been there, done that with this stuff. I work at a lawnmower repair shop, and my boss races roadcourse. I get to work in his racecars when I’m not working on mowers. I can do everything to this truck myself, over at the shop. My boss is all fired up about the truck, so he definitely wants to help me. I’m looking forward to stuffing every last bit of info from your videos into my brain as possible. Thanks.

Yes. 157k, not a Z71, some rust. The only aftermarket part it has is a cold air intake. The transmission is the original. Never been replaced. Trans fluid looked...meh.

My nephews truck is exactly that, it's on the channel as the one we replaced the rockers on and Liner Extreemed the bottom of. For light towing, he does a camper a few times a year, has a couple Jetskis, normal house stuff. He's very happy with his 5.3 and tuned ECM. His transmission failed pretty quick, a 600 Facebook Marketplace rebuild, and he was back on the road with no issues since.

What I do... That can 100% wreck your engine if you're not careful... Is run about a quart of diesel in it until it's good and hot, then drain and change the oil. If it's really bad you may need to repeat a few times using cheap Walmart oil
