Glad I saw this. I do a lot of glue up in the shop and use scraps of wood as my glue roller disappeared years ago. I searched around at the local stores and found nothing acceptable and got blank stares from the clerks. Now searching for a Brayer, I find them everywhere.

I went to my local arts and crafts shop and bought my first brayer and just used it this morning. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY (wood working) LIFE! Great time saver. Thanks!

Marc, sometimes it's the simple tips that are the most useful. I like this roller because it is so easy to clean. Thanks for the video

At one of my previous jobs, we had one of these (smaller) maybe 2 1/2" wide that fit directly onto a glue bottle. We would keep the top(s) in a water bucket, and when we needed them, just pop it onto the glue bottle, and then gently squeeze and roll. It was absolutely wonderful for laminations. I think they sell it at LeeValley as a big multi-piece kit, but we only used the glue bottle and roller. Actually I just checked, and the current one offered is a glue roller and biscuit glue set (with bottle) for $16.50. (17K22.01)

I use the plastic putty spreaders, they come in a bunch of sizes, they're cheap, and best of all if the glue dries on it they're flexible so it just cracks right off. This is a huge advantage when working with epoxy resins - the resin can't stick to the plastic so cleanup is easy, just let it set then flex the spreader to break the epoxy and it's clean again.

I'll have to keep my eye out for one. Right now, I use a silicone basting brush from the dollar store and it's handy to have as well.

Can you make one, or include some information on, the need to put glue on both surfaces? I do it, as you do in your videos, but have no real understanding why it is needed on both pieces when I can also glue on one piece and get the same (?) results.

Best part of the video was your t-shirt. Other content was good too though!

Have you not ever used the rockler glue roller ? It's a decent size and it never gets ruined no matter how much glue u let dry on it. And the kits also 20 bucks and u get more with it

Looks good for smaller stuff. But when I spread glue on panels, I like a nice wide roller. And I use my roller for glues other than what goes in that bottle. So I prefer the roller to be independent of the glue.
@liamdillon369710 жыл бұрын
That is what I use and I'm very happy with it. If it's a large piece then I just use the glue independent of the roller to speed things up a bit. Not having to worry about clean up and being able to simply peel the dry glue off is favorable to the method in the video.

Would a simple wooden roller work too? I could make that in no time at all with my lathe from some scraps...
@woodwhisperer10 жыл бұрын
Well I suppose you could, but glue sticks to wood quite well. So you'd have to put a good finish on the roller and make sure you reapply finish as needed to keep the glue from sticking.

I use a small roller used to fix wallpaper seams. MUCH cheaper, and the same thing. I think the idea of "designer" glue rollers from rockler is downright ridiculous.
@woodwhisperer10 жыл бұрын
Actually it's not the same thing. Wallpaper seam rollers are MUCH smaller (about 1/3 as wide). For larger projects and wider boards, that would make me pull my hair out. The whole idea is to save time and get better results, so that's worth a few more bucks in my opinion. But as always, use what works for you. Kind of agree on the Rockler bit though.

I like to use a Bondo spreader, after using it you just let the glue dry and peel it off next time.

In my axesperiance a paint roller works just fine the only bad thing is that you need to keep ist stored in side a large container whit glue or make it clean (what is alot of work) or trow it a way but you would be trowing more glue than roller away
@woodwhisperer10 жыл бұрын
Yeah it seems like the roller would suck up more glue than the project does. :)

My glue rollers all just end up sliding and not rolling =(

Seriously, a cheap plastic roll for 8$? You can get a steel&wood one on ebay for half that money or just build one yourself for pennies. Or use a comb (1$).

Wow fuck me and all the time I spent spreading with my fingers, I need to get one of those.
