Great video. I remember hearing people using the IC2E when I was into ham radio in the early 90's and the transmit audio quality was the best of any other handheld that I had heard before. 73 from G7LPG (new subscriber!)

Very nostalgia Tony thanks. I bought the Ic 2e when I passed my test in 1981, it was a groundbreaking radio although it looks big today at the time it was first fairly small synthesised 2m handheld. I really loved mine used to walk to a nearby hill & make contacts up to 100 miles on 1.5w. It cost £159 a lot of money in those days when you think you can by a Chinese radio now for a fraction of that cost. Eventually I wore the thumb wheel switches smooth with so much use ! I still have the remains of the radio in the workshop the case got broken years ago sadly.

Found a IC-2A in the box in absolute mint factory new condition unused about 20 years ago at a local Goodwill store for $5.00. Audio quality rivals any newer radios, clean and loud with a large speaker, not a tiny quarter sized speaker as in so many newer radios with that teeny audio like many Yaesu h.t's.

Excellent! I had an IC2e in the late 80's, spent it's days attached to my AEA PK88 TNC on packet radio!
@TonyAlbus3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! yes you are not the first one who tells me that, they were popular for packet. 👍

Classic rados. Haven't seen any of these for years. They were very popular in the 1980s!

Great Video. I recall the IC 12at which is a bit newer on 1.2ghz here in USA. All great radios.

Thank you!.. that is the 23cm version? cool, now i need to look for those too :))

@@TonyAlbus Yes 1.2 ghz. We also have 1.25m and 900 mhz here in the states but Europe has 4 meters. Would be better if it were uniform to enhance usage throughout the spectrum! 😁

Thanks for the video. I recently aquired an IC-2E among other older radios in a junk box. My goal is to get it up and running, not to use it, but just to have it working.
@TonyAlbus2 жыл бұрын
Yes that is very nice, i love how the old Icoms were build, and most of them still work, with only little work.

@@TonyAlbus Older radios are extremely well built. I just refurbished a Kenwood Tr-2300. Didn't take more than a good cleaning to have it working again. Imagine doing that to a Baofeng in 40 years.
