Not really, I mean I'm shooting cards on edge at 150 yards in wind with $100 gun a few shots apart and hitting 22lr cases at 175yd back to back??? On video and using factory guns doing it with CCi SVs ...especially the fly swatter challenge 15 hits out 25 in under 3 minutes with oem 10/22 so definitely not the table just pure skill

He seems like a nice enough guy,,, but he speaks as if he knows more than everyone else. I have shot rimfire benchrest, those people have real skill, this gentleman seems to be putting himself in the position of a real champion Hall of famer,,,, I was going to be much more humble about my opinion of this video until, I read some of his replies to people that had legitimate criticism of him, such as that rickety table that he claims to have shot playing cards on edge at 175 yd.. if you have done all those things sir then you should display all of your awards plaques ribbons and trophies.. people who shoot that game at that level are humble good and helpful people. I am not picking up that tone in your voice sir.

@@stephenbaker7499 let's see you do what I've done with a Factory oem Ruger 10-22 in ARA Factory 50yd class matches, using CCI SVs and off the shelf rifle getting the scores i am achieving...the guy's that wanna come to my channel and comment ignorance wouldn't dare do it, they're all about match chambers in CZs and match ammo...I am doing it my way and the fact is my gun and ammo is literally trailing everyone not far behind in every match, never said I won or would win...I've said the same thing over and over my 10/22 can keep up which it has and for 10/22 carbine to do that is a feat within it self especially with CCI SVs

It boils down to air density. That's why long range precision shooters use altitude, temperature, barometric pressure, and humidity in their calculations to ensure hits. The longer the range, the more critical the data.

“they don’t want you to know” is a misnomer. Manufacturers do not explain nor teach the intricacies of ballistics. However they care not whether you are educated. This said your points about POI in different seasons, barometric pressures and air densities is spot on. Testing ammo for consistency is one of the the things which can give one a slight edge with regard to raising your score. Knowing the nuances of a given ammo in a particular gun matters. Stepping back; I do like to look at the standard deviation of chronographs velocity spread with various ammunition’s in various environments. Minimizing the spread of muzzle velocities does reveal how consistent the primers and powders ignite and burn. Poor primer ignition and poor powder burns will create inconsistencies in POI. For some of us; finding the ammunition’s which provide consistent POI in a given air density and temperature helps to reduce the probability that hat we take ourselves out of Match contention before we load our first round. I like and appreciated most of what you said. The exception is that I did not agree that ammunition manufacturers don’t want us to know about ballistics and the factors which are associated with their study.

Gun powder has it's own oxidizers in the formula. The combustion happens in a sealed compartment between the bullet and the shell case. outside temp and atmospheric conditions past the crown of the barrel only effects the bullet not the burn of the powder.

Another thing I like about the Norma is it’s supposedly got a better BC than standard velocity despite it having a semi flat point. Still the most accurate 22lr ammo I’ve ever shot was a lot of cci standard vel.

I've had problems with Aguilla 40 gr. in my Rossi RS22 I had a case Blow out at the rim and a few with the rim swollen . I decided to save the rest of the carton for my Heritage Convertible . A few days ago my Grand Daughter was shooting the Aguilla ammo in the Heritage and had 2 rounds swell so badly they locked up the cylinder. The air temp. was about 115* F. here in Northern Arizona so the Temp. may be a factor but I'm not about to buy any more of that ammo. We also shot some Federal and Win. 40 gr. ammo the same day with no problems.

James, thanks for all the info. What are your thoughts on the effects of % Relative Humidity on the inside of the chamber and bore. I understand it has minimal effects on a bullet in fight but i feel there is more going on in 22lr with humidity in the chamber and bore. I see different in MV where temperature are the same with different RH values and it produces different velocities. Any thoughts ?

@@STKO2011 Thanks James, Yes, i have been monitoring my velocities, group sizes and environmentals and im picking up inconsistencies, i feel land and groove, and chamber diameters play a lot in cold bores, especially from SAMMI vs CIP standards. Im in British Columbia and we are just entering our warmer months with higher humidity values, be interesting what i pullout of the next few months shooting at different temperature and absolute humidity regimes. A lot to consider and difficult at times to analyze with so many factors at play, hard to sort out the static at times but its 22lr. And that’s just the way it is….😂 You are making some good points and some not so good points…true all guns shoot different ammo differently, but switching barrels and guns doesn’t make sense. Find a brand that works in your gun, and go with it. And yes, lot numbers do matter because the same machine in that lot number is making those boxes. I’m new to 22lr shooting, but learned a lot from UT… the most important part of shooting, in my opinion, is the shooters discipline. You can have the best gun, the best and most expensive ammo, but if you aren’t breathing properly, or can’t steady yourself before you squeeze the trigger, then everything else doesn’t amount to a hill of beans! Just my thoughts….

I'm glad you've done the research. But I have to disagree with you. My stock CZ 457 LRP does not like CCI standard velocity it does like Eley team and match and tenex that shoots between 1063-1076fps year round in Louisiana, I'm sub moa at 100 yards and a .31" at 50 yards. And about three and a half inch group at 200 yards. You do want to find what speed your barrel likes. My tricked out 10/22 likes tac 22 match. Which is fine for tree rat sniping or golf balls at 100 yards. Some of my single shot 1960 era 22s like stingers of all things year round. Now that being said does temperature and wind make a difference? Absolutely both do, but if you want consistent shooting you have to buy ammo that is known for its consistency and that your barrel likes. Course this is just my opinion also
