I think the .22 mag didn't get to reach it's full velocity from a tiny revolver which is why it didn't do that much and had unburnt powder flying everywhere.

.25 gives center fire ignition reliability plus it was designed for short barrels. I think all that peppering on the clay face was unburned .22 Mag powder. I’ve seen other tests on KZbin that showed out of the short NAA barrel .22 LR can have higher velocity than the .22 Mag because of all that unburned powder. Nice test.

When I was 15, way back in 1960, the NRA did a gun safety presentation to our HS gym class. That was Deer River HS in northern MN. At the end he shot a .22 short into a block of Ivory soap. It was an eye opener for all of us. BTW, That school then was K to 12 in one building and the 22 short was all they would let him shoot indoors. And if your homework was caught up, they would give you time off for the only 7 day deer season in the whole state. Plus a 14 year old could get a drivers license. The good old days!

Certainly enjoyed that, my recently deceased father was more of a long arm fella but the .25 ACP Mauser of WW I vintage his Grandfather had was always ready in the nightstand for the last 50 years or more. Even though I had larger calibers in mine I still had to buy one a few years back when I saw it at my local firearm store for memories. That Mauser (his not my cheap .25), the .303 Enfield and M1 carbine are recent additions to my safe (among others) and not going anywhere. ;) I am a fan of the .22 mag though out of my Heritage rough rider 6" but hardly a carry gun.

The barrel for the 22 mag wasn't long enough for a complete powder burn. Left a bunch of "umph" on the table. That's what was splattered all over the clay. I was surprised by the 25 though. I would have pegged the mag to be the winner, but I'm constantly surprised by the results of these clay block tests. Way more fun than the balistic gel blocks.

Excellent demonstration. I've had similar results with a 22 magnum derringer with a baseball size fireball and gun powder burning out free in the air. NOTE: With a longer barrel to use all the gunpowder I bet the 22 magnum would blow the 25 ACP away in damage to the clay. BUT that was not todays test. I have more respect for the 25 ACP. Now I need a few clay blocks to test a Ruger LC9 (pocket gun).
@thomasallen3818
@thomasallen3818 3 жыл бұрын
That.22 mag gave that clay block a pretty good powder burn. That’s because you fired it out of the little revolver. I would think that if you shot the same round out of a rifle, you’d get more of the powder to burn going down the barrel.

Suprising! Never rated .25 as once had an old Nickel Browning purse pistol in 25 6 shot cylinder and about as effective as slingshot! But the 22 should never be underestimated!! The magnum round and the 25 both had unburned powder whereas the little bitty 40 grain solid lead put as good a wound cavity/ channel into that block o clay!! Also theyre cheaper i would have thought! Cheers Pal ..Always enjoy your vids ..Just wish I could still own these things in our country without being on a Terror list or something like that!😦🤨😢

All the peppering on the clay is unburned powder from the .22mag. So out of that short barrel, .22mag cant get up to full velocity due to powder not being fully burned off.

Never under estimate the 22LR, or its faster big bro mag. Shot placement is the key.

Unfair test fir the 22wmr. Ammo needs to be a faster burning power for testing the magnum

About what though for the 22lr. 22mag disappointed some what . And the 25acp did a good showing. But 25acp was replaced by 32acp then 380acp. Over time. Rember dad haveing a war bring back from my grandmother family member was a Astra in 32acp. Great little gun.

Not so sure the 25 did more. If you notice, the whole block expanded with the 22 mag while the 25 created a bigger hole. The concussion of the mag must be more damaging?

Great informative video! I was one of those 22 fan boys, but you may have opened my eyes a little about the .25 apc. I would like to see a ballistic gel type of test on all three sometime. Whoteewho!

A late friend of mine in Fl,he had a .22 Wmr like you have, he liked it very much . A close companion, and a Savage combo gun in 20 3 inch and .2Wmr also. Hogs with combo gun and the Wmr head and neckshot did well with some good copper plated ammo. Godspeed B. Happy hunting grounds where you are now . Ps. If you come across a Beretta 71 in .22Lr would you be so kind to take a huge clayblock and with a mag full .22s do the Mossad manever ? One aimpoint, one magfull.

I wonder if a pistol specific 22 mag loading would do better by burning more than half of the powder? I've seen 25 acp stopped by couch pillows point blank.......

Is it possible that it did more damage because the inner wall channel is weaker due to the other rounds making it easier to expand?

As far as self defense, they’re all underpowered. That .25acp is clearly the best choice for defensive use, even if you just look at the centerfire reliability vs rimfire reliability. I wouldn’t want to get shot with any of them, but I wouldn’t want to rely on them stopping an attacker. Use what you’ve got. It’s better to have a .22 or a .25 than nothing. I usually draw the line at .380 though. It’s small enough to pocket, iwb, or even ankle 🤨 carry. Bigger is usually better to a point, but sometimes you just need something small enough for what you’re wearing and what you’re doing. I couldn’t imagine going golfing with a full size 1911 on my hip. I can’t see a glock 19 working when you’re walking around shirtless in a pair of basketball shorts and flip flops. There are needs for small guns, but a small .380 like a lcp is usually small enough, with a little more punch than that .25.

Wish 25 and 32 acp were more available. Think there's a lot of misinformation out there on those calibers and too many people get the idea that they're not powerful enough for self defense, so the demand was reduced.
