“Anyone who’s owned a 22re has had to replace a timing chain.” That is the truest thing I’ve EVER heard in a KZbin video.. (unfortunately) R.I.P Timing chain.
@pv2smurf5 жыл бұрын
The plastic guides for the chain are the reason why. Yet I've read if you use the metal ones you take a chance on bending a valve instead of the chain breaking the plastic guide

Spent about 4.000 on parts through LCE out of Airazon. It's a strong running motor with about 12.000 miles on it now

Well I just learned intakes together, exhaust apart. And it was right in front of me all along, damn! My opinion is this: is as long as you are already in there to replace a single row timing chain, go ahead and get the dual row kit from L.C. Engineering. It includes a blueprinted oil pump, water pump, the new case you have to have, all new bolts, gaskets, o - rings, and of course the dual row chain, gears etc... A very comprehensive quality kit. Im not a shill for L.C.E. so if there is a better kit say so! (The kit is not cheap, but neither is your time)

Also a tip that made taking the intake off much much easier was to just remove the upper plenum first then it's super easy to see and get at that Allen bolt. that bolt is so easy to strip or break off so I wanted to get a straight shot at it. FYI it's a 6mm Allen bolt running through the intake right bellow the thermostat housing.

That bolt bellow the timing chain is a PITA... I just started my rebuild and almost forgot about that ... after a few whacks with a dead blow hammer and only getting the back of the head loose I remembered about that bolt. I couldn't see it because there was a puddle of oil in there covering it up. Once I soaked up the oil it was obvious where it was.
@dc57234 жыл бұрын
It holds the cylinder head and timing chain cover together. Replaced my timing chain, timing cover, oil pump, water pump, tensioner, metal back guides 6 years ago and it was fun.

Does the Haynes manual give specs on each and every bolt and tube? Ive yet to get the manual as well, will probably pick that up this weekend. Thank you! @pv2smurf7 жыл бұрын
Antonio Zavala the idea of holding the timing chain for just a CAM INSTALL is so it doesn't come off the crank cog. So yes, make sure while it has tension and is still attached to both TOP and BOTTOM cogs that you secure it good!!

zeerotx 2 days ago on a previous video (part 2 or 3) someone said the shop was "closed due to illness". Engnbldr.com
@truthserum53105 ай бұрын
Haynes manuals sucks!!! Get yourself the Toyota Books. Water consumption is the intake ports on cylinder 1 & 2 on the head are close to 3 coolant ports. Over time, and with lack of coolant maintenance, the coolant eats away the aluminum between these ports and the gasket causing coolant to leak into the intake ports on 1 & 2, thus consuming coolant. The front engine crank seal doesn't ride on the crankshaft, it rides on the shaft of the balancer pulley, and can cause grooves on the balancer shaft. The rear main seal rides on the crank, and can groove the crank as well.

m8 does not equal grade 8. m8 is size grade 8 has to do with the strength of the bolt. Class 10.9 would be roughly the metric equivaliant to grade 8.

I did mis-quote that. m8 is the bolt diameter Metric 8.8 is equivalent to SAE grade 8.
