This is what you said, Charlie. “We came to be funny But we searched for the truth. We told some yarns (stories). Got long in the tooth But life’s just that way If you’re lucky that is I guess I’m just foolish For livin’ in bliss. For I am happy I guess that make me awfully sunny And thats why we’re here. For we are sunny even though we seem bleak Sometimes it may appear But we are sunny because we’re hopeful In a way, and were honest with each other, and I guess that’s just the way, we appear. We are sunny in our way and this will be, what we’re known for until our very, last day” There are so many ways to interpret this drunkenly-improvised lyrical brilliance within the context of this episode, the context of the show IASIP and within their lives and how comedy is an outlet for each of them and bond between them. It is a manifesto, of sorts, of their (Rob, Glenn, Charlie) stated goals as artists which is to channel suffering and pain into joy and laughter for people and themselves. Charlie absorbed all the good vibes in that room along with all that bourbon and then released that bottled up emotion in the most masculine way he could, a topic they ironically joke about early in the episode when Charlie and Rob are tooling on the guitars. Charlie’s outpouring of emotion came so naturally in his browned-out state, that it caught everyone one else off guard and brought them to tears and of course Charlie is totally confused about why everyone is crying when he opens his eyes. What a heartwarming end to this special episode. To all the comments saying they should do more or longer episodes like this, think for a second what you are asking. Believe me, the novelty will wear off when your favorite comedians are shitfaced drunk all the time. They aren’t characters in a TV show. They have families and careers. Let this be a rare and anticipated occurrence so that their kidneys don’t shrivel and shrink. …I meant “livers” 🤣
