23. Hardwiring a Dcc decoder and Stay Alive

Great video - thanks for the tutorial. It always bugs me seeing spectacularly detailed layouts made by 'rivet counters' where locos that run terribly. Completely ruins the effect. I'll certainly be installing stay alive capacitors when I build my layout!

Hi do you have the link for the decoder and stay alive on Ebay. I have two of the Bachman models and both are bad runners.

Unfortunately I'm struggling to find it still in stock on ebay. It should be called "Laisdcc decoder with stay alive options". It may be a temporary stock issue or it may be discontinued. There are many other dexoders but they will be more expensive, for example a lokpilot decoder paired with a train-omatic stay alive would probably cost £40 - £50. Or I can suggest a dcc concepts decoder with one of their stay alives. I'm not sure when he's getting new stock but if you contact Richard at "Roads and Rails" via his website. He sells lokpilot decoders with stay alives pre soldered. They are currently listed as out of stock but I doubt it will be too long.

Does this work with Hornby select control? Or Hornby elite, if not want control are you using?

I can't see why it wouldn't, the only problem you may encounter is that sometimes you have to change cv 29 to disable dc running (sometimes this causes strange behaviour with capacitors). I use the lenz set 100.
