Should be 5mm on flue spigot and when connecting panels they should sit cast on cast not cast on rope so rope should go around panels not underneath them.

Thanks for that. We’ve been using the stove fine since reassembly, but perhaps following your advice would have improved things. Cheers, Rob

Hiya Paul, nice to not be relying on running the diesel central heating this winter - not nearly as efficient and likely much more costly…plus who wants to watch a radiator in the evenings? Haha. All the best. Rob, Carol and Tilly

I'm glad I didn't try and refurbish mine. I checked on what I paid for my brand new one and it was actually £600+VAT so £720 including VAT. That was in October 2020. I thought it was a real bargain, and as I didn't have the time to spend refurbishing my old one, I was happy :)

Nice work. What a shame about those tapped holes being off center. If you had a drill press you could drill them out larger, on center, and then put thread inserts into them, like helicoil or timesert to give the original thread size. Was that from morso or some bodger on ebay? Also what breed is your dog?
@NarrowboatLiberty
@NarrowboatLiberty 7 ай бұрын
Hiya! The tapped holes were in an eBay top. Tilly is a coydog from Indiana, a coyote crossed possibly with a heeler (nobody really knows)! Thanks for commenting!

Couple of observations from me having attempted to follow this video with no success and hoping you may learn from my pain, costs & errors! Not intended as a criticism in any way as your approach on here has clearly worked for you, bar some drilling out was needed which may be explained by what follows... First check your 2nd hand, reconditioned, 'as new' Morso stove sold as 'all genuine parts' - really is all genuine. If it doesnt have the correct Morso part number then that is likely a dodgy chinese stove part. My first big problem was just such a dodgy fake part. If the stove won't correctly assemble, despite you trying everything - check your parts are legit! I ended up paying a Stove installer to assemble mine (they spotted this fake bit very quickly!) they also advised me: It's 6mm fire rope for the body; you only need one length, not two as suggested in here; they don't glue it where you suggest, removing my set up to do it again. Sorry didn't see where they did glue it but think it was centrally I was also advised (separately not by them) when seating the sides, back & front onto the base, the base does use 8mm fire rope but with the centre core removed so it can compress easier. I wasted two days getting increasingly frustrated until I called in an expert. 'Caveat emptor' I wouldn't buy another one second hand without seeing it fully dismantled to check all the parts - or just buy a new one is my learning! Stay safe done badly these things can be very dangerous - I really think Morso should be providing all these videos with clear instructions direct from them - if you sell the parts to Joe public then you should provide the instructions to assemble them safely. Happy boating!
@NarrowboatLiberty
@NarrowboatLiberty Жыл бұрын
Thanks Neil for taking the time to point out those concerns so clearly. I had no instructions whatsoever regarding reassembly, so it’s very much a case of what worked for me might not be correct or even feasible for others. I’ve shown my process, which so far has worked well, but it’s arguable that you’re better off paying £400-500 for a professional refurb, which I would expect to result in a safe, functioning stove. All the best, Rob

Great video I’ve got exactly the same issue. What size rope did you use for the joints? Thanks
@NarrowboatLiberty
@NarrowboatLiberty Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was 8mm stove rope. A friend tried a thicker rope on his Squirrel, but it was harder to get the panels to fit. We’ve used the stove several times since the repair and have had zero problems with smoke or gas leakage, finding the stove much more efficient, using less fuel than previously. Good luck with your refurb Darren. Rob

Okay, Robert, you ticked me off. I have repeatedly asked Brits about their use of the English language. Recently, I have heard three people say ashumed, rather than assumed. I don't she an "h' in that word. But the words that drive me crazy, and I literally mean crazy, is "I am SAT her looking at...." Rather than "I am sitting here, Sat is past tense. Sit is present tense. The same with "I am STOOD here.." rather than "I am standing here." You live in both countries, so perhaps you can tell me why this is so. We don't say these words here in the States. Love your vlogs. Jane, Philadelphia
@NarrowboatLiberty
@NarrowboatLiberty Жыл бұрын
😂 thanks for that, Jane! I am almost certainly guilty of saying ‘ashumed’, which I agree is not proper pronunciation, so I can only imagine it’s an acquired error - I think it’s quite commonly heard, such that I’m really not aware of the ‘ash…’ syllable when I hear it - thanks to your comment I’ll probably become much more aware of it from now on! 😂 I agree with your comments on differences between the USA and the U.K. on use of mixed tenses. It is relatively rare to hear the English say ‘I am sat here’, etc., but very common to hear it in the USA. We truly are divided by a common language! After eight years in Indiana I certainly have picked up a few ‘Americanisms’, which I’ve found difficult to shake off now we’re back in Blighty. In conversations with Carol I’ll slip into Americanisms often, but we still occasionally debate our shared language - one of our KZbin shorts includes a mini-debate over “I’ve drunk” and “I’ve drank” - the English will never use the latter, IMO! Hugs and thanks for watching and commenting 💕 Rob
