Sounds like you're on track already 😀. Just be mindful of the area you choose to move to, the closer you get to San Francisco, the higher the cost of living you will have, which will only negate the higher wages.

Will you please do a video on the neighborhoods in sacramento. I don't need anything too posh... I was born and bred in the hood, have no wife or kids..... the cheaper the better until I can get out there and do my own scouting. Also, room renting a big thing here in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Is this a thing in Sacramento? Are there offices/agencies that specialize in room renting there? You have quickly become one of the most substancial KZbin nurses out there. Thank you
@NursesToRiches

I have a video on our top 10 favorite places in the Sacramento area. You can start with that as a guide (here's the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip64cpeZpqt7g9E). You can also find places where you can just rent a room, if that's what you want to do, but one of the only ways to find a room is through sites like Craigslist.

hehe this is cool but i normally jsut sell everything when i move to different states its cheaper and less hassle as buying new furniture isnt expensive lol especially from amazon. I have moved to atleast 4 states so far and this method is expensive that you mentioned lol. You could save $1000's if you just sell everything and just drive to your new state in your car with jjust clothes and tv if anything. Well i am a simple guy so its easy for me to sell everything and then buy them over as it doesnt cost much. Like if you do the math and see that everything in your apartment is $1000-$2000 of value, then getting a moving company for $2000 and then a car mover for another couple 1000 isnt worth it. Plus you can be scammed by fake moving companies these days (i almost did) thats why everytime from now on i just sell everything and just move in my personal car with my partner. Because i can easily go on amazon and buy a bed, couch etc and have it delivered same day or the next day and i have a blow up mattress to sleep on in the new place. So for me its quite convenient to move this way. IT might not work for you and you might value your personal items, but as for me, personal items can always be replaced with new ones. I moved from wisconsin last year 2023 to utah (22 hour drive) only cost me $530 for only gas. I saved $1000's in cash by not getting a moving company etc. So its awesome to do it this way.

In your video, seems like you recommend to look for a place first before starting a new job. Do you think its wise to start a new job first then stay at a monthly airbnb before officially signing a lease to an apartment?

I am writing on behalf of my spouse, who is a Turkish nurse. Are these steps applicable for a foreign nurse as well? If not, what path should we follow? Because we do not have any American visa and finding a job and getting a sponsor for my spouse might be a more challenging process.

I want to move to California when I’m a new grad. Do you think it’ll be harder to get a job in Cali as a new grad?
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 2 жыл бұрын
The Midwestern states are the easiest states to get jobs in as a new grad, but the average new grad takes under 6 months to get a job in California, after graduating. I tell this to everyone who asks me the question you're asking me: just get your license in both states and apply for work in both states. If you get an offer in your home state first, then take it. Continue to apply for a job in California while your work in your home state. Then, move to California after you get a job offer. However, if you first get an offer to work in California, then you're in luck, and you can move to California immediately after passing your boards.

Just watched this video and it’s so helpful! I have a question for you! I’m in AZ and about to graduate in December while taking my boards in January. I want to move to CA after I graduate. They usually tell us to apply for a job and lock it in at the beginning of 4th semester so it’s ready pending the NCLEX. I’m about to apply this month. Should I also apply for CA ? Or should I get a job here first and then apply for CA while I’m waiting and still earn money.
@NursesToRiches

Hi, unfortunately most hospitals in California require that you have a nursing license before they will even consider you as a candidate for a position. But, if you can find a job that will allow you to submit an application without a nursing license, then go ahead and apply.

I got a job offer in UC Davis as an OR nurse. What do you think? Is this worth moving to? I currently live in Boston.
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 3 жыл бұрын
I think you should come and visit Sacramento first. UC Davis is a great hospital and many nurses who get employed by them, end up staying there for good. But, I'm a NYer at heart and always miss some things about living in NY. So, because Boston is similar to NY, I recommend you come visit Sacramento first and get a feel for what your life might look like once you move here.

Do you think a new graduate nurse should attempt to find their first job in California or first get experience in another state before relocating to California? Thanks
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 2 жыл бұрын
The difficulty of finding a job as a new grad is going to be very similar, no matter what state you're in. If you want to move to California and work here as a new grad then go ahead and do it. It takes an average of 6 months to one year for new grads to get their first job, so just keep that in mind if you aren't hearing back from employers right away.

Any idea how this process would differ for Canadians RN?
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 3 жыл бұрын
In order to get your California license you would first have to get a job offer from an employer within the state, after passing the NCLEX in Canada. Once you receive a job offer, you would be hired with a Travel Nurse Visa. Once you receive your TN visa you come to the US and apply for a social security number so you could apply for licensure by endorsement in California. It's a complicated process but California is one of the strictest states when it comes to licensure for any profession.
@RedFaceeee

@@NursesToRiches I see. What would be the best way to get a job offer in Cali as a Canadian?
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 3 жыл бұрын
@@RedFaceeee first, you have to get your California RN license. Then, I would just say apply every single day for any openings available in any hospital that has positions available. Once you have your first job here it'll be easier getting a job at your number one choice of hospital.

Can I ask if your spouse started in home health and was able to successfully transition to the hospital later in her career? You mentioned she started in home health and being a fellow mom I'm considering the same path but not sure if I'm shooting myself in the foot not having hospital experience the first year as a new grad nurse. Thank you
