Great job on waiting, that is hard to do. I appreciate you showing this, even the best in the game can make mistakes, we are hunting WILD animals and they will do something different every time. It happens, having respect for the deer is continuing to hunt for him, then searching like you did. Great job and awesome buck!
@LoneWolfCustomGearАй бұрын
No doubt it was a mistake at the shot. Wanted to get another arrow in him but it didn’t work out. I could see exactly where I hit him so I knew I had to give him at least 24 hours at that point. After talking to tracker John I decided to give him even more time. Thanks for watching and thanks for a positive comment.

Omg what an awesome deer ! Congrats buddy ! I do have a bone to pick with all deer hunting content creators. Do get me wrong I LOVE the stuff that you make. So what I what like for all of you creators, is to show everyone where you hit the Deer entrance and exit . Then explain what happened. Because not all of us are great under pressure. Because, I believe if you show that and explain. All of us can learn ! For GOOD and BAD shots ! I think all of you creators would benefit!

Way to play it after the shot! Alot of guys would have blown the recovery and not gave that deer the right time to die! Way to make best of an unfortunate situation with the shot but thats bow hunting! Congratulations on a tank!
@LoneWolfCustomGearАй бұрын
I’ll admit all day it wasn’t the greatest shot on an animal I have ever made. Once I made it I knew I would never get that buck if I did not play my cards very carefully. So many times during those hours I wanted to rush in there but experience told me other wise.
@BeaselАй бұрын
Buck in the truck! All that matters in the end! I think your patience paid huge dividends. Most rookies would have tracked too early and bumped the buck.... wind that one up and he is gone forever.
@LoneWolfCustomGearАй бұрын
Years ago I made that mistake on a buck and I never did get him. I bumped that deer and just could never locate him and I think the deer got onto a piece that they wouldn’t let me in. After talking to tracker John, Joe Miles, Andrae and Heath we felt like it was the best thing to do after they seen the footage. I knew the answer to my question already but having those kinda guys reassure my thought made it easier. Even though it was still hard to do lol. Thanks for watching and I hope you knock down a giant this fall!

Mannn the trolls on here! I (and probably more hunters on here would admit) have been on the wrong side of the same situation with marginal shot on a hammer buck and never found. It sucks. That feeling of recovery must have been so gratifying. Great IL buck!

Thank you! Yes not the shot that anyone wants to make on an animal. But after talking to tracker John he had said all gut shot deer should be given 24-36 hours. He also said that he has seen them live even past that. Good advice from a guy who has been tracking deer with dogs for 20+ years.

Yes it wasn’t any good after being forced to leave the deer that long unfortunately. I just knew if I went in to early I would just jump him and loose him forever. @LoneWolfCustomGearАй бұрын
Self filmed and camera was backed all the way out on a 38 yard shot. Hunter practices to 60-70 all the time. He was going to stop the animal and it paused for a sec and he committed to the shot for the animal to start moving again. Thanks for watching

Lol the reality is you took a pretty lengthy shot at a walking deer. I'd have more respect if you KZbin guys just called it like it was.
@LoneWolfCustomGearАй бұрын
I don’t consider a 38 yard shot a lengthy shot in a wide open field. It might appeared farther but I self film and had it backed all the way out to make sure I got it on video. I have doubled lunged numerous deer over the years at farther distances than that. Where I screwed up was as I was about to stop him he paused for a second and I thought he was fully stopping so I settled back into my peep and shot. 100% that was a mistake on my part and trust me I lived it until I recovered him. Hell I’m still dealing with it. But man I never said I didn’t admit to it lol. The one thing I won’t do is not show exactly what happens. Good or bad and that’s reality when it comes to chasing big whitetails with a bow.
@23liveblueАй бұрын
@LoneWolfCustomGear i do respect that you showed the whole thing play out. We all know lots of KZbin guys cut that stuff out cause it looks bad. I mean I think 38 yards is definitely a poke especially when the deer is walking but we've all been there. I can appreciate guys that are just transparent about deer hunting when it comes to KZbin especially. Great buck and congratulations.
@JordanRogers-i1j24 күн бұрын

@LoneWolfCustomGearАй бұрын
No way 100% disagree. Gut shot is 24-36 hours. Justin spoke to tracker John who has been running hounds to track wounded deer for over 20+ years. He even sent him the video and he said no less then 24 hours or you’ll never recover that deer. He also said he has seen on occasion deer living even past 36 hours. Feel free to look up tracker John from Illinois and you’ll find his number. Call him about gut shot deer. He does roughly 150-200 track jobs a year
@markc2036Ай бұрын
@LoneWolfCustomGear look, that's just me. I wasn't trying to start an argument. You shot the deer in the afternoon the day before and waited until noon the next day. That's what 17 to 20 hours? I would have gotten help if possible to do a thorough search, knowing the deer was suffering. That's what I would have done.
