This video is a rebuild completion video on a Triumph Spitfire 1500 cc engine by JMAC Engine Shop. It is sold to Jon. He is going to put it into his Amphicar. An Amphicar is the only amphibious car built as a production car. If you would like to check it out go to: • The FIRST & ONLY Civil...
The Amphicar came with a Triumph 1147cc engine; the design of which was duplicated in the 1296 and the later 1500. Jon wanted more power so he turned to the 1500 which is where I came in. We figured out that he needed 4 parameters met: 1) No leaks, 2) No vibration, 3) The front and rear head studs needed to be longer so he could attach the Amphicar muffler, and 4) A water port off the rear of the head for the Amphicar heater like was on the 1147. Besides these things Jon wanted the engine to have the performance upgrades that I give this engine routinely and repair of the center main oil gallery which was a design flaw in the 1500. We accomplished all of Jon's parameters and expectations. Oil pressure was at 78 psi on cold start and never dropped below 60 psi. The compression numbers were good, all between 180 and 190 psi. It was a complete rebuild with lots and lots of new parts including: rocker shaft, tappets, dual timing set, double springs, 270 duration cam, flat top pistons, 1.438" intake valves, small end rod bearings, big end bearings, main bearings, gaskets and seals. The engine is painted with black heat resistant paint and the covers are powder coated red. This engine revs and runs smoothly.
