Oh thank havens I live in Edmonton!!! I'm 17, and i'm excited to have more of these communities throughout Edmonton! I was looking forward to moving to Amsterdam soon, but this concept might make me stay here.

This is great to see! I wonder if the GTA or Toronto has as ambitious plans out there.

Nice! Is there any data on the carbon emission per-capita of this place? Kwh per year and energy sources in hand. I'd like to use this place as benchmark to see when something is close to sustainable.

Net Zero should become the standard around the world. Doing anything else wastes energy and that wastes money. This needs to be shared with architects and city planners around the world.

What’s solar like in Canadian snow, who’s going to climb up thier and clean the snow mid winter? Where we going to put the snow we just shoveled?

Alberta will likely be using nuclear or hydrogen to harness energy. Still too close-minded to the idea? it will be 90% cheaper. instead of paying 16cents/kwH, it will be 1.5 cents/KwH

Edmonton is the Austin Texas of Alberta. This is great. Too bad it won’t catch on in the rest of Alberta. Y’know, because there’s sharing involved. :D

Every child needs to plant a tree, bush or flowers with their parents in their garden. It will provide food and shelter for bees, butterflies, birds and other creatures. Planting and watching things grow will provide the child with a connection to nature and a better understanding of the environment.

Unless there is some serious form of electrical storage it will not be carbon neutral! It will depend on grid linking to outside systems that are NOT anywhere carbon neutral in order to give 24/7 power. This is by no means a reason not to try to achieve the goal!
@totherarf5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the key point is that it does this by utilising "Dirty" supplies! If every home in the country were like these it just would not work ....... this needs to be acknowledged!
@DavidDodgeyeg5 жыл бұрын
@@totherarf Homeowners are doing what they can to cover their own consumption with clean energy, but yes the grid needs to change as well. Solar and wind are already the cheapest new source of electricity and in New Zealand solar with energy storage is already cost-effective. When we get the signals right - based more on the actual cost of the service provided (electricity, transmission and distribution) as they have in New Zealand you can already make money by combining solar with energy storage. www.greenenergyfutures.ca/episode/solar-battery-revolution-time-of-use-pricing-new-zealand Individuals can only do what they can do.

pretty sure you don't know what carbon neutral means. You don't need storage or self suffciency you just need to offset emissions by providing for others. So if you generate more electricity than you need during the day you can draw off the grid your surplus during the night and your balance is NET ZERO :)
@totherarf5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm ..... So your argument is as long s you generate as much (or more) as you use it is good? Even if it is only possible by utilising dirty power sources? Don't get me wrong I am in favour ...... but it is NOT carbon neutral! At best it is carbon balanced, and may well be a necessary step towards true neutrality. There are homes that do generate All they use .... most store the excess in batteries. Many are "off grid", but that means careful use of power usage that most simply do not want to subject themselves to!
