Nice results. Your Sub-Saharan African is probably what you thought would be Native American. It was very common years ago for mixed-race people to claim to be part-Native American to avoid the Jim Crow laws, etc. This happened quite often.

@@CroMagnon42 No idea what you are going on about. I was talking about him. Also, North Africa dna is not Mediterranean. They are a distinct group from a mixture of an early migration from West Asia with Sub-Saharan African. They tested ancient bones to find this out. Also, what are you talking about unknown admixture? Sub-Saharan Africans are 100% Homo Sapiens. Neanderthal and Homo Sapiens are cousins. That's why the could mate in Europe. Europeans have a small amount of Neanderthal DNA. The rest is Homo Sapien just like Sub-Saharan Africans. Sub- Saharan Africans are just 100% Homo Sapiens.

@@CroMagnon42 Also, there are many different genetic communities even within Europe. Calling them "ancient hominid admixtures" sounds like you think people are somehow different species. For 3/4 of our time on the planet we were actually all together in sub-Saharan Africa. People started migrating and through time and mating in specific groups, we have developed genetic communities. However, North Africans, Sub-Saharan African, Euroopeans, Asians, etc. are not different. We are all literally the same. If we were so different, we wouldn't be able to mate with each other. Same with Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals. Homo Heidelbergensis left Africa - one part became Neanderthal and those who stayed in Africa became Homo Sapiens. Then Homo Sapiens left Africa and replaced the Neanderthals (after a small amount of mating).

@@CroMagnon42 All Homo Sapiens (you and me, everybody) started in Africa and lived in Africa for 3/4ths of our time on earth. They then went to Asia there was a small amount of mating with Denisovans and a small amount of mating in Europe with Neanderthals before both the Denisovans and Neanderthals became extinct. If ALL Homo Sapiens lived in Africa for so long, how could ONLY sub-Saharan Africans have mated with this "unknown admixture" and not everybody else, too? This "unknown admixture" would be in all of us.

DNA isn't halved equally so it's still quite possible to have a great or great-great who is native american. I.e., my grandmother is straight Austrian but my son has very little... Almost none.

It’s possible that your sons Austrian could be read as German/Bavarian too. Since they share so much history and culture. I know my grandpas moms family is from Austria, and I hardly any Austrian that was shows up in my DNA either.

from my understanding of what I have read about these tests: this is not necessarily your DNA traced back --- it is saying based on your genes, here in the world is where the majority of people have similar genes to you. It can be a good way to have general ideas - but not necessarily your exact family lineages.

Exactly! Its very general and even they will tell you it's only a general idea of what your genetic makeup is.

If, his grandfather or great grandfather just had a small amount of Native American DNA, that it probably doesn't show in his test. After a few generations we lose some of that old DNA. But that doesn't mean he has no Native American ancestors, it's just too far back to be passed down, more than 6 generations back, that DNA starts to be replaced by new DNA, with each generation. Sometimes, one DNA gives different results than a other DNA test taken. Some DNA test done on western 1st Nation's people in Canada and Alaska do have European DNA, some of it from Russian Republics.

23 and Me is so cool! My husband and I did it years ago, and over the years the info has become more and more detailed. My results were similar to what I’d guessed but it’s super cool seeing the details as they emerge.

If Chaz is looking to find his sister, I'd recommend looking into GEDmatch. You can get an export of your DNA file from 23andMe (I believe. I did mine through Ancestry.com) and upload it there. I get emails through them sometimes finding more connections. It's a great way to connect with people who have used different DNA services.

I’m going to do this. My dad was adopted so we have no information on his biological family. He passed away 9 years ago so the only info we have is what he told my mom many years ago.

There is a good chance you will find family. I did my great grandpas side got separated( the parents died during the trip) and lost contact when they came to America. We found his oldest brothers family that had been lost to old to be adopted but not old enough to take his siblings. He was sent to CA to work on bridges and the younger kids end up adopted in NY and moved to Kansas. It is a really good for people that were adopted or family of those adopted.

I work for the company that makes the kits and machines to test your DNA for 23 and Me. My family all did this shortly after my Grandma died 2 years ago. We found out that my Aunt and one of my Uncles are not my Grandpa's children. My grandparents were married for 65 years before she died. It was heartbreaking to deal with. Their father ended up being the neighbor. Results aren't always exciting, but it's really cool to connect with family you have never met! ❤

Nice. I'm always interested in this kind of video. I've seen many dna reports by people who believed they had native American ancestry and none shows up but they have Sub-Saharan African instead. However, this doesn't necessarily mean you don't have native American ancestry. 23andme say that how much dna we get from our ancestors and that beyond our 2nd great grand parents we don't get dna from all of them. My brother did the test, and although we share 55% of our dna, his make up was very different to mine. I have 2 percent Italian, he has none, yet we both have Italian ancestry.

Ancestry DNA would likely give you closer DNA matches. Should try that too. more people in their system. My half brother had done it and matched to me. Found great grandmas biological family through it and some adopted relatives.

The Native American maybe further back than originally thought! Just because it doesn't show up on DNA tests doesn't mean there isn't any Native American in you. DNA is random possibly didn't get your ggrandfather's NA gene. Although 23andme is much more detailed than Ancestry DNA my NA didn't show but my cousins got the NA gene. IF you have a paper trail or have records of who your ggrandparents thru 5-8th ggrandparents, you possibly have a NA ancestor especially if your family has lived in the states for a least 150 or more years. This is where I found my NA ancestors which I have at least 3-5 NA female and 1-8 NA male ancestors. It's very interesting!

Native American dna would show up if his grandfather were half Native American. Also, remember after NAs were given land rights, a lot of people started paying unscrupulous roll takers to put them on the NA lists. Consequently, paper trails are also not at all completely accurate. They were called $5 Indians. Pay $5, become an Indian, and claim land rights. These people are listed on the paper trail, but form a dna perspective, they are not Native Americans.

@@tsalon5864 true in some cases but the names of my NA ancestors are obviously NA and not European names. DNA links me to my NA ancestors plus my grandfather(paternal) and grandmother(maternal) both had NA with NA features as well.

Like someone said above, the "Native American" was probably the Sub-Saharan mixture and the ancestor used the Indian story to cover that up.

@@mikebishop9667 If you are showing up with Native American dna then it is not made up in your case. I agree. However, one can never underestimate what a person will do when money is involved, including changing names. I have a friend from South America. He thought his family was originally from Spain. Turns out they were British. The Spanish crown gave land to any European who moved to their colonies as long as they changed their names, became Catholic, and swore to the Spain crown. His family at some point turned their British surnames into Spanish ones to get land rights from the Spanish crown.

I think on the Sub sarhan African it's more than likely the Spanish and Portuguese distant cousins. So that's probably way back. As far for the Eastern European alot of them have a small admixture from people from Turkey and the Middle East.

For the guy on the left you probably do have Native American in you. I’ve seen so much people saying they have this and that in them but doesn’t show up. One of the people who worked for the company said just because it doesn’t show doesn’t mean it’s not up there. It could possibly mean it wasn’t traced all the way back to you. Your siblings would probably have Native American in them but except you. Just mean it wasn’t traced towards you.

Theoretically, you are right. But considering he said that his grandfather was either half or a quarter Native, he should be around wither 12.5% or 6.25% Native American, which would definitely show up. Instead, he got a small percentage of African. Back in the day, a LOT of half white/black Americans lied that they were Native in order to be treated better in the then extremley racist American society, which is most likely why the guy in the video gets 2% African. He didn't have a Native American but a black ancestor.

You might have a native Great grandparent, who was partly Native American, maybe a grandparent of one of your grandparents, was native American, that would be ¬6% of DNA which maybe you did not receive (but maybe other relatives did)

Please upload to GEDmatch you will get more information. You may have traces of ethnicities that are too hard to pick up on company tests. Through a geneticist on GEDmatch I found out I have traces of East Asian, Central Asian and South Asian. Perhaps the Native American is real for you, perhaps not.I have a kind of similar background to Jessica just in different percentages. Take care guys.

The only things that I found somewhat a little surprising were that I had Spanish, Italian, Native, and SE Asian (Indonesian/Thai/Khmer) traces in my makeup. The Spanish and Italian are both above 2% while the Native and SE Asian are at around 0.1%. The rest are either Caucasian European (72.1%) or Sub-Saharan African (22.9%)

Oh, if your African is coming from your grandfather completely, it would be the equivalent of him having one great-grandparent who was 100% African. This would mean that one of his grandparents would have been biracial (black/white).

@@Navarro-zp4fg Why would it have anything to do with Spain? He has no North African, only Sub-Saharan African. Also, his Spanish is very small, probably linked to the Irish as there were Spanish ships that were wrecked on the British Isles many times. 2% Sub-Saharan African is still quite a bit, and typically means a great-great-great grandparent. It completely links to the idea of PASSING which was common in the USA at one time. Most likely an African slave ancestor as most African Americans have only Sub-Saharan African and 0% or only very small amount of North African.

@@Navarro-zp4fg This is one example of it: "Meet The Woman Who Learned That Her Mother Passed As White | Megyn Kelly TODAY" Mixed race people who were a little darker or clearly showed some "ethnic" mixture would often say they were part-Native American, Turkish, etc. Crazy that it was a time that people weren't allowed to be proud of being part-African.

Native Americans in the USA were slaughtered quite early in the USA history and those that survived were rounded up via the Trail of Tears into reservations. For some reason, most white Americans and black Americans were falsely told that they were part Native American when for the black American it is almost always a European ancestor and it is much more common for a white American to have an African ancestor than a Native American ancestor especially white Americans from the US South.

Yes you can say “native” as in here before “new” world mapping and discoveries but not native as America was the starting point of human creation. There are no bones that date order than others in the US. You are concussing setting up camp with being created.
