@@starrypunk20 Dwelling on thoughts and enriching them strengthens OCD. We can develop methods to deal with this. I know it's hard and it was hard for me too. But we must not let thoughts rule us. Only then can we defeat OCD.

You can know you did something even if you don't remember it like a video recording. For example, you may rememebr that you had toast for breakfast, but you don't remember putting the bread into the toaster or spreading the butter, just that you were eating toast. That feeling of "I know I did something or I know it happened, though I can't remember it like a videorecording frame by frame" is all you need to get by, and I garentee you it is likely correct.

Do you think ocd could also be the result of continuous feelings of low self confidence over a long period of time? Like feelings of frustration and anger ar yourself for not doing the proper things at the proper time?

Hi Katie, I am wondering what your thoughts are of the overlaps between OCD and ADHD. In previous videos youve talked about attention training and its benefits to OCD. I ask because I recently started taking medication for ADHD treatment, and in the few days I've been on it I have found that it has helped my OCD, seemingly because by being able to hold focus on work/life tasks its cut off a major highway my brain used to ruminate on obsessive thoughts, i.e. frequent task switching. Wondering if this is something youve explored, or if OCD and ADHD treatment work well together or not. Thanks! And you're videos have been a tremendous help!
@23katied
@23katied 4 ай бұрын
OCD and ADHD are often seen together. My non-scientific explanation for this would be that an ADHD brain is busy working faster than the world needs it to and therefore it needs other things to think about to minimise the discomfort of the whizzy brain. So sometimes OCD will come along and say 'hey, look at me I can help - focus on this and you'll feel better' (the sly little monster). I think you are probably right that in being able to slow your mind and focus better taking the ADHD meds then the OCD becomes less of a necessity and/or because you are focussing on the task in hand the OCD recedes into the background. Don't know if this answers your question and whilst I have some experience in ADHD I am by no means an expert in it!

Sorry to hear you have had side effects from your medication. That is very bad luck as it's quite rare to have side effects and most will reduce over time but you may want to consult your medical doctor to discuss.

Do you have the same perspective on dreams? Been having a lot of vivid dreams recently and I can never decide whether it's better to analyze them or just ignore them
@23katied
@23katied 4 ай бұрын
I think that all depends on whether it's helpful or unhelpful for you.... As a CBT therapist I'm not well versed in analysis but generally we wouldn't recommend someone with a tendency towards OCD analyses things because it usually ends up getting them stuck in a negative cycle.

How to stop constantly checking your surroundings when walking or being out in public, or constantly looking back to see if you haven't lost anything even though there is nothing that can fall out, or going for a jog and every piece of trash on the road resemble a 100$ bill, so the whole jog turns into a trash checking exercise, I haven't actually found anything of any value as of yet, but better to reverse my car to check on that black looking spot on the tarmac, might be a lost wallet, nope it isn't, it's just an oil spill. That's my day. I am about to cause myself a concussion just to get rid of this nonsense.
@23katied
@23katied 4 ай бұрын
So the trick is not to try and stop yourself checking but instead engage in some ERP exercises in order to learn to deal with the doubt and discomfort differently. Firstly make a vicious flower (see my video on this) on all the things you do to try and make yourself feel more certain and less uncomfortable like checking. Then when you do the ERP you are going to do the opposite of these things. The sort of thing that you might do as ERP could be, for example, to put extra bits of paper in your pocket and let then rummage around in your pockets when out so that it INCREASES the likelihood of you worrying that you have dropped something. When you deliberately increase the likelihood of bringing on the worries and discomfort you set yourself up with a chance to learn to respond to them differently. Might be worth checking out my videos on ERP to help you further. ERP is such an efficient way of learning to live with uncertainty - once you get the hang of it you will not regret it!

@@EppingForest304 Lately I've been able to take control of the monster inside of me. I got tired of it, it was sucking out too much energy and time. I lost something? I don't think so, since I've spent over a year looking for things that were not there. A year and a half of this nonsense and it is starting to fade away. Slowly but surely. Tell that voice in your head "go fuck yourself" and bleed that monster like a stuck pig

Can OCD make you think you JUST tried to do something bad, or that you ARE going to _in the moment._ False memory about the past is absolutely a thing in OCD, but what about _in the moment_ ? Like, "Did I JUST try to...?" Or _in the moment,_ "I'm gonna do this," YET you weren't ACTUALLY gonna do it, it was just a false "intention" triggered randomly. You felt it, you thought you were about to do it, you "consciously" planned to _in the moment_ until you snapped out of it. Is either a thing in OCD? Feel free to ask for clarification.
