I don't want to pester you, so feel free to ignore or say "Just google it - no time to answer this", but I had a quick question about sightlines and your new boat's stern deck height and such. I'm 5'9"/175.25 cm and my wife is 5'8"/172.75 cm (if my conversion math is right). I'm not sure of the configuration of Katie K, but Anthony looked quite comfortable with the sightlines, and I'm pretty sure I'm significantly closer in height to him than Paul! Any thoughts on things to watch out for or think about when it comes to clear lines of sight, especially if that came up during the boat design process with Kev? After watching so many videos, it's another reason I love the flush solar panels VS flat panels on mounts, TBH - fewer things to be in my way. For comparison and why this matters to me, I need a pickup for towing and such, and I've been through this same process when I was checking all of the major brands - Ram had a MUCH better line of sight to the front corners of the truck due to the hood shape than Ford or Chevy and also better adjustments to the seat (so I bought one as my most recent truck). Just tonight I had to sneak the truck in and out of several tight spaces while delivering about 1,500 lbs of supplies to a site, and that was in mind when watching the video tonight. Just thought I'd see if there was anything particularly interesting from your helmsman training or boat buying that was related or if you had any suggestions for those of us who sometimes work to get things off the top shelves! Again, congrats on the course, glad it was a great time as well as educational, and can't wait to see the upcoming videos, both for the boating content but also for art and the general experiences you'll both be sharing for us. Thanks as always for the efforts in making the video - it's greatly appreciated!

Thanks Sean for your kind comments as ever. We should be paying you for your support. Anthony is a lot shorter than me I’m 6’tall hope I get this right I think Anthony is 5’6” but if anything his height was better for the sight lines. If the pram Cover is up on the boat and you are cruising as it’s raining I had to duck down to see, but Anthony has no problem. The stern on our boat is quite high compared to other narrowboats. But in answer to your question you will both be fine if you steer a narrowboat. Another good thing about being shorter is going through tunnels, again I had to crouch down when going through the harecastle tunnel. P💕

Hi Sean, thanks for watching. Always look forward to your comments. I am actually 5’4” and Paul is 6’. As he said, he had to stoop a little when the cover was up. I think the head clearing is about 6’2 ish so neither of us had problems inside the boat. You guys will have no issue at all. 😄

Me again. So sorry I have so many questions:-). Do you need helmsman training to drive a canal boat? Or is it purely for beneficial reasons ie makes you a better boater? Many thanks. Jason
@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason you don’t have to take a helmsman course but we found it so useful. Our boat builder wouldn’t sell you a boat unless you did the course. Definitely recommend it 👍

Very very good, although a little scary at first. It was exciting and well worth it, as the Lancashire canal gave us everything we had hoped for. We went right up to the top, and walked the rest into Cumbria, Glason basin well worth the detour. Mike.
