I am glad you liked city I grew up in. We are proud of it and it is safest capitol city in the entire Europe. Shame you were not here in late spring just to see the greenery. It makes it so much better. Zagreb has nothing closed during winter. That happens only on the coast, Zagreb is a 4 seasons city. You probably just missed an advent, big event that lasts month before Christmas, that is why everyone is inside, we are recovering for new years event. I have one simple thing that I try to tell everyone. City center is cool but if you go outside of it with a tram, something tourist almost never do, for 20-30 min you can see so much other cool stuff. Zagreb has most museums per capita, a lot of great parks, a river, two lakes, a zoo and so much more. If you like nature/hiking (there is also a buss and a cable car) you can explore mountain north from Zagreb it has plenty of vistas from where you can see Zagreb from above. It is really beautiful during sunny day or during night when lights are on. Also there is a fortress Medvedgrad near by and a great local food in any of the mountain lodges/restaurants.

I liked the chocolate tour. Very interesting how they have you eat the different chocolates in different rooms as you progress through history.

I just love visiting old towns and seeing the architecture of what was once a standard. Wait chocolate! Can’t go wrong with a chocolate tasting. And lol your face on trying that one piece of chocolate. I’ve been there.

Zagreb sure looks worth a visit! I think the flower market must be great in spring and summer. Good idea to take the tram and sightsee on the way. Chocolate is always good! 😋 Irish pub everywhere 😂 I'll send you a picture of the cathedral if I ever make it back out there! 😊

Southern part isn't socialist, it's modernist. Built in first half of 20th century (KINGDOM of Yugoslavia era), the blame for bleak and cube looking buildings is the fashion of early to mid 20th century and you'll find same architecture in any European city, but bigger cities have it outside the central areas because they were huge already before 20th century. Socialist part is the apartment blocks along and across Sava river, the New Zagreb. And it's not really socialist other than it was socialists who built it. Same apartment blocks are in Vienna and Hamburg and Paris.

The trams are generally on time ±3 minutes, but the bus system is where the timetable is only for decoration.

Croatia, among some other European nations, can rightfully be named the cradle of Western Civilization. As opposed to the balkans.
