Heathrow is one of the busiest two-runway airports in the world with about 1,300 combined take-offs and landings a day. Efforts to limit noise mean that fewer people are affected by noise today than at any time since the 1970s. However, noise remains an issue for people living near or under the various flight paths used for take-offs and landings at the airport.
On average there are around 650 departures from Heathrow each day. The first departure is around 6:00am and the last scheduled departure is at 10:50pm.

Aircraft taking off from Heathrow follow pre-defined routes, known as Standard Instrument Departures routes (SIDs). The choice of SID used is decided by the airline and is predominately dictated by the destination of the aircraft. Due to the fact that all aircraft perform differently and may be affected by weather conditions which can cause them to drift left or right, there will be some variation as to where different aircraft will fly relative to the centreline of the SID. For this reason, when the SIDs were designed in the 1960s by the Department for Transport (DfT), the Government set corridors, known as Noise Preferential Routes (NPRs), which extend 1.5 kilometres either side of the SID route centreline.

Aircraft don’t have to follow the centreline of the SID precisely, they just have to be within the 3km wide NPR up to 4,000ft. Under government rules, once aircraft reach an altitude of 4,000ft, NATS air traffic controllers can direct planes off the departure route towards a more direct heading to their destination. This is known as vectoring.

Here is an American couple, visiting the town of Royal Windsor for the first time.... "...Y'know dear, I wonder why they decided to build Windsor Castle right under the Heathrow flight path..?? "

Yes, the planes are loud. Heathrow opened in 1946. Did you not know there was an airport close by when you decided to live where you live? Seriously wondering. I live near a military base. The base has been there since the 1930s, long before I got here. Yes, there's plane noise but I knew there would be.

In 1948 Heathrow was a small aerodrome with temporary permission to operate. Nobody could have foreseen the horror to come. It's a stupid argument to say people shouldn't have moved below a flight path. Often people have no clue a flight path will be placed over them in ten years time. The problem is Heathrow's huge expansion & it's stupid location - overflying more people than any airport in the developed world & set to become worse. It should be moved.

Vjeruj Luna da sam bila na Londonskom aerodromu,letila za Boston i natrag opet preko Londona.Mojima sam pricala da sam sa jednog gejta isla autobusom kao od Sarajeva do Ilidje do drugog gejta.Ogroman je aerodrom,srecom imala sam uplacenu pratnju,nikad stici u zgradi do ulaza u avion .Pozdrav iz Sarajeva!❤️✈️✈️✈️

More then the noise, I would be more scared about the invisible killer that none is mentioning, just in Heathrow every minute a flight is taking off burning some tons of kerosene just on top of your head. Non is talking about it but if you calculate just a few tons every minute, how much pollution it would create it in every minute, in every hour, in a all day... in 3 London airports and we are just breathing it! Kerosene is cancerous, and there are more victims from cancer every year than C o v i d. Theoretically a flight lockdown should be fair

I would never live in such an area it is not just air pollution but it's is electronic wave current . We have to be grounded and get earth magnetic wave which is good for us but these modern day machinery gives us different wavelength which is not good for our body .. I lived in Hounslow near airport for 1 day in someone's home who is known to me and later I asked myself why are they living in such an annoying neighborhood

Ja zivim na selu ali vrloo blizu aerodruma Batajnica a i u ulici ima neki privatni aerodrum da ga tako nazovemo gde imaju letilice, helikoptere, avione i lete non stop toliko nisko i u pocetku mi je to sve smetalo kao i voz koji se cuje nocu jer blizu je i pruga a sada nista ne cujem...
