@@raveenm2270 it's not a reverse gear, the engines have what is called "thrust reversers" which you can see how the engine shroud is shifted forwards and exposes that silver looking band, it essentially re-directs the flow of thrust forwards to push the aircraft backwards (usually only used on landings to help slow down the aircraft) the wheels on planes aren't motorized, hope this makes it clearer for you 😀

The thrust reversers on every jet that has them can do what this jet did. There's a loadmaster in the back where the aft ramp is down on headset telling the pilot where to go.

@@oriolesfan7807 please keep in mind its a military aircraft designed to get into and out of situations that regular passenger jets don't find themselves in. reverse thrust uses alot of power ( fuel) and there's always the threat of debris . Using a tug is less costly and much more controlled . Having said that there were occasions in the past where some aircraft could reverse out , the MD80 comes to mind , but its not the norm

This is one of many reasons I would not be able to handle being the president. I wouldn’t ever want to go anywhere, because of the cost. It costs close to $200,000 per flight hour, just to operate Air Force 1. Just say 16 hours round trip in the air to London and back. $3.2 M just to get him there and back. Forget all this equipment that goes as well. Than all the personnel, like the secret service.

@@okst5314That's what it takes to protect a Head of State (and someone who, in the case of the US, also happens to run the country). The cost is something to get over because their safety is always paramount. The Secret Service exists to keep them and their family alive, and no one of their status is going to be flying in any commercial flight. A chartered flight, say, a private jet, could also be compromised, wouldn't be protected from airborne attack, and can't sustain itself in the air long term. These flights are built like military planes because they basically are and that's what's necessary. You'd travel when needed because that's your duty for your country, to get shit done. This sort of travel isn't for a quick trip

The C 17 is so bulky it looks like it shouldn't be able to fly at all, especially at those low speeds! A very imposing machine. When you factor in the additional weight of the payload, it's even more surprising that it DOES fly.

I was in the RAF in a place called Machrihanish in the early nineties. It was the European base of the US seal team six. When they needed fresh boats or vehicles they'd fly them over from the states in one of these. Of course all air force people are interested in aircraft and we'd wait until they had unloaded then pop over for a chat with the crew and a nosey about. They are absolutely enormous but consist mostly of empty space. I still have a photo of me and a mate kicking a football about inside one.

We intentionally do not do that... just in case the big bird has an accident. By using several heavies, we can ensure enough of the team lands. I know when HRH travels they do a slightly smaller version of the same.

I didn’t vote for this Crack Head. But for the Most Powerful Man on the face of the Earth. It’s a drop in the bucket to defend him and keep him safe. We can do a lot more for the “American Taxpayers” by closing our Borders. Just one of many things that’s a bloody waste.
