Great episode! It was super rad to see 'ol Mr. Holmgren! That dude was nothing but a saint to me when he first started at Lami like 12 years ago! And Forrest literally hasn't aged a day thinkin about that number! Hahaha! Folks from SE AK often do 'salt fish' and mac. It's really good and lets the fish sorta rehydrate a little bit but still with a nice crunch that contrasts with the mac n cheese. Try it! You'll like it! Thanks for showin us a great time in the PNW, a neat way to prep fish, and for takin us along for the ride! Sweet action all! The rest is 100% TLDR unless yer a real fishing nerd! Hahaha! This is much more of a "thing" during the transition from winter to spring... But over the last 25 or 30ish years one thing that I've always held in the "transitional season" notebook... Is float fishing adjustments. For me... It's either downsizing to near panfish class gear, especially for giant, but leary late season winters...... Or, more commonly during both transition times... Especially in slightly slower drifts like that first one... Give em a giant float. Like 3 times under weighted! Lol! The fish aren't really less apt to grab gear I don't think. But when you can see em, they are just more direct, more purposeful with their actions. And it seems like they don't "doordash" as much after the initial take. But they still hang on to a hard ass plastic bead for far too long! Lol! Thats why having more chooch from the bobber catching more current helps to get em stuck a bit quicker! It looks weird, havin a vertically suspended rig with a sideways doggin style look... It's weird! Lol! But it works! Like a champ! This rig is also known as a "cheater drift" rig. It's used in areas where there are giant boulders where drift fishing is impossible, and vertical suspension doesn't get down far enough. The ridiculously under weighted system, and overall rig length being a little deeper than the drift will make for a deadly presentation that is able to "pick itself" up out of the cracks and stay "fishing" through what is otherwise an impossible drift. We're talkin a big 1.5 or 2 oz chopped taper West Coast and a 1/3 to 3/4 oz Dave's Tangle free tied off to a traditional drift rig leader of like 18"-24" or so. You'll miss yer first take, cuz you are laughing and in shock because this ridiculous contraption actually works! 😉

Not gonna lie man I really don’t get the hate on white chinooks/tules where I’m from we get lots that still go very long distances and hold in rivers for 2-3 even 4 months and still cut and eat beautifully especially if they’re chrome like that, maybe it’s something that is unique to where I’m from but I honestly prefer white meat chinooks for smoking over red meat, try it with a sweeter brine than you do for reds, they’re seriously delicious if you prepare them right.

6:05 "We don't wanna take this thing all the way out of the water", -> Immediately takes it out of the water for multiple different angles and glam shots. That fish had its eyes pointed down and was lively when you first caught it. By the last cut scene it was gasping for air with its eyes rolled upwards. Lame af.
