Why not just install the DNA airbox lid? It bypasses all that snorkel and prefilter stuff.

Hey Dan, yes, became aware of this after the fact. A few other people have commented as well. If I go with the air box lid, what do you do with the snorkel? Just leave it there?

@@advinjapan most people install a K&N in the standard spot. The lid doesn’t change the fact that the snorkel is still there.

Got it, very informative. 👍 Sounds like what you’re saying is the airbox lid provides so much more air inflow that it renders the lower intake (where the snorkel is) useless? I’ll pin this to the top. Btw, my fuelx is on the way as well 😁.

5:11 the red plug is the diagnostic port afaik.. you can get an adapter to a standard odb port like you have in most cars, then can plug all sorts of odb adapters in there, reading engine stats etc..

I ended up just keeping the snorkel off. The inlet is before the filter so no worry of dirt. Now it pulls from a larger inlet up by the battery. I do have the fuelx lite, so im not sure if ecu changes are need. With the fuelx I haven’t had to change anything. Can upgrade the filter to a reusable k&n filter. So if you’re worried about the filter getting dirty faster the k&n allows you to clean and reuse.

It’s been pretty nice. On the exhaust side I ended up cleaning out the resonator(mid pipe) and painfully gutted the rear catalytic converter. It’s made out of aluminum, so very difficult to try and drill/chisel it out. I’ll probably get a new header eventually to straight pipe it to the muffler. The fuelx has made this all possible with just a plug and play system. It’s a lot peppier and doesn’t lug down when you’re in the low rpm range.

@@advinjapan I thought about recording it but had no idea how it would turn out. It ended up taking me about 3hrs. Knowing what I know now i wouldn’t have fussed with the catalytic converter and would have gotten a new header instead. I got the idea of the resonator removal from one of ADV Matt’s videos. 5days a week working out!? That would kick my butt. Good for you though. I ended up doing those videos for the rogue 1000lb club challenge. Very strict rules, ended up failing it because my squat wasn’t deep enough. Keep up that motivation!

Thanks! It’s a great bike. Very comfortable, though at highway speeds you will feel vibrations. I’m 5’11 and and I can’t flat foot it. They do sell a 2023 model with a lower seat. If you’re an experienced rider though and do mostly on road, I’d go with something larger and more comfortable.

Thank you! I removed the cover, and now it breathes better. It cools down more easily, and I have more space for my wallet and other extras. have more place for my wallet and some extras

Hey iRide. Yes, I’ve got my fuel mapper coming in the mail. Though I don’t think a prefilter on the snorkel would warrant the mapper. But I’ve also decided to go with an airbox lid instead which drastically changed the air-fuel mixture and necessitates the fuel mapper. I’ll be uploading an update video here soon comparing the two upgrades.

@@advinjapan Nice. I ran the open airbox lid mod along with the Best Dual Sports mapper in Moab. Everything worked great until I went through a deep puddle. I think my mapper got wet. Had some strange electronic issues after that where the bike would run, but the throttle wouldn't work. Ended up taking it out and sending it back for a new one. I haven't put it back in yet... I'm not 100% positive something happened to the mapper, but its the only mod I could think of that might be causing issues. When you install put it in a plastic bag or something just incase.

I have coober airbox lid with a K&N filter atm. I might give that tray removal a try. See if I notice any difference. I think that red connector is the OBD port, I remember seeing my KTM dealer plugging his laptop to that port. Not sure tho

@@advinjapan Its nothing fancy, just an airbox lid with holes in it and some foam. I’ve seen people 3D print them on the cheap.

@@advinjapan make sure to use air filter specific foam.. regular foam might not filter properly and it's directly pulling ai into the airbox not through the internal air filter so a good filter foam must be used to avoid damage to the engine :).. there is an airbox lid available from BMC i think that uses actual oiled cotton filter like the aftermarket internal filters. a bit expensive but it might be a safer option and make sure you add some type of fuel injection ratio tuner like fuel X pro or a full on retune of ECU through a piggy back EU :)

Hello from India, My views, no offence... So Two things I still doubt about.. Quantitatively - Even adding the pre-filter stage, is as good as not letting more air into it. As engine does not suck air but it opens up the valve to let more air in. Qualitatively - dust wins no matter what, just prolonging the life of filter over Quantitatively is not a wise choice. To me this was a more of an experiment and not some really good way of thinking it. I like the way you explain things, so before execution maybe you can explain on what you want to do next and give some points like similar to Quantitatively and Qualitatively. Viewers will comment their views and your next video could be the actual implementation.

At the time it was very hard to get filters here in Japan and they cost almost twice as much as normal.
