The entire saga trilogy is loaded with brilliant casting choices. Caine was epic. These lines, and the entire monologues they come from. I love how he refers to their mistakes as "trying to outsmart the truth." Showing the folly in it, and that he understands he's made his own. And of course, the "watch the world burn" quote is a piece of history by now. From an amazing monologue. It was heart-breaking, that he had to spend time thinking Bruce was dead. To watch Alfred suffer like that, after so much dedication. Fortunately, for us that bitterness only lasts a few moments. He gets his wish fulfilled. He knows Bruce is now finally moving on to a better life, after doing so much for others. Batman wouldn't be half the powerhouse he is, without Alfred by his side. Wise, steadfast.
