Gotta tell you doc... At my shop almost all of the techs have the longer bent nose snap on pliers.. We literally call them the best pliers ever made because we use them for everything...

When I was starting out, all I could afford, was budget tools, but soon you realize they don’t cut it for the most part. What I ended up doing was when I broke one of those “budget“ tools, I would buy a premium replacement, good way to gradually improve the quality of your tools without handing over your entire paycheck every week.

A cheap set is absolutely worth having. I have my nice Knipex extra long for working with, but I keep a cheap set for destructive tasks. I heat treat steel occasionally, and grabbing a bright orange piece of tool steel will wreck the temper in the pliers nearly instantly. The cheap pliers are soft now and worthless for serious tasks, but they still hold well enough for quenching steel.

Wish channellock would make a set like these. Would love to have an affordable set thats American made. I can justify snap on prices for ratchets and more standard pliers, but probably not these. I do want to get some of these long pliers, especially the bent nose. I'll probably go with knipex though, those are still pretty affordable.

I like the 'options' or 'alternatives' series of affordable tools compared to top tier. I went without XL needle nose for some time until I found a good deal on Knipex 11" straight & curved. They are quite nice. I think u selected one of the better sets that actually have machined grip inside the jaws. I've always wanted to see a review of the Tsunoda 11" straight/curved. They are more expensive than the Chinese generic ones but still VERY affordable. Those SnapOn's are just beautiful. But like you mention, these for many are an occasional use plier that perhaps doesnt need to be a wallet buster. Good job.

Thanks for these affordable tool series, a lot of these have little to no reviews on Amazon and when they do there's like no photos or anything

I really like this series, thank you. Almost all of life choices are trade-offs. I think it’s useful to consider what you’re trading off in each case.

The long Knipex pliers are excellent and about half the price of the Snap On.

Absolutely ridiculous, I paid $11 for a pair of 11-inch needle nose & $12 for a 45-degree 13-inch about 17 years ago and they still work perfectly to this day while being used routinely. People break tools because they misuse them and don't maintain them.

For the times I have used long reach stuff my Cresent Double jointed ones (11" - 45 and straights) have been fine. I did though take a good look at this set, and am considering it. I do like the X2 double jointed ones though. The Snappys at 80 bucks though are a no go for me

I got a set of crescent double-jointed ones a few years back for about the same as that set of 4. I figure they've paid for themselves in time saved for the the half dozen times they were exactly the tool for the job. I prefer the double-jointed long pliers because you can reach through smaller gaps with less loss of working range. Quality is definitely between your two examples: A quick test against a fender washer shows the teeth are hard enough to leave crisp bite marks with even moderate pressure but the gap between the handles bottoms out so that I can only start to bend the edge with the available squeezing force.

There's a well known brand Sealey over here in the UK that rebrands imports. I have a set of their long reach double jointed pliers AK8591 (335mm or about 13") which look fairly closely related to these. They're decent. Wish I'd bought the bent nose ones though. They do some long reach cutters too.

I have cheap ones, I was using them to put a spring on a rear brake shoe, I slipped 3 times and cut my eye brow, fore head and nose, got a black eye. it's not worth it. I do have a astro drum tool kit but wasn't useful for this application.

I feel like needle nose is not the right tool for that application.

I don't like Chinese pliers, I love the knipex ones, they have something similar, I bought the set of two for 60 usd. If I remember you have a video about them. Maybe not exactly the same snap on quality, but like the multiple cutouts and gripping surfaces on the knipex. And they are forged. The new Snap-on pliers are manufactured with laser cutting. Is there any difference between them, compared to the forged ones ? Which one you prefer? Maybe you compare them in a future video. 👍👍👍

Like you said Doc. How often are you going to use this tool. If it's daily/ weekly get snap-on. If it's monthly/ quarterly then ABN or Sunex. But don't be surprised when the cheaper tools let you down. Stick with what you can afford. Step up in quality tools with out it being a burden financially.

I think these are too cheap and disposable. While the Icon are not snap-on quality, the over the counter warranty resembles the Sears of yesteryear.
