3 phase power here is available everywhere. The problem is the bill is made of line rental and power consumption. 3 phase customers pay triple the line rental so they pay more even if they use the same MWH of power. So generally houses on a street are connected to single phase from a 3 phase line. So one house will be phase A next B then C so the street goes A-B-C-A-B-C-A-B-C for example. Still 3 phase but each house is on 1 of the phases. For all 3 phases you have to pay higher line rental.

@Speeder84XL11 жыл бұрын
Those toroid transformers is really nice anyway, as there is so much space to put new windings on them to get what ever voltage you want. Wery thick cable can be used for a low voltage, high current one - for high voltage a lot of turns can be made with a wire dimension that still allow for some amps. Only thing is that it can be some work to wind many turns.

You can be so proud of that Wikipedia entry! Anyone who already produces 400,000 volts at home and can supply the whole city with it, someone like that must be classified as generally endangered, you are an outstanding example of Tessler's free energy, I wish that would do more, then all 4 parts of the matrix trillurgy would be ripe for the dustbin. I'm currently building my Free Energy Bike, a 12kg mount bike with 2 motors, one of which drives the other with electricity and the other turns the electricity faster and faster and at home I use it as a generator and terminate the network company.

@skyhawk5519 жыл бұрын
ok cool
@Pelnied8 жыл бұрын
VARIACs often have a toroidal transformer as their core so you could definitely make a crude autotransformer from the toroid. It won't be as good as the manufactured version like General Radio makes but you'll have some taps for sure. Like digitalradiohacker says, you'd be better off not consuming large amounts of power so you don't cook your coil.

You have the same as us in NZ. 400 phase-phase, 230 phase-neutral. Only commercial stoves use 3 phase, well that I've seen. Only commercial users or farmers pay for 3 phase power here because single phase is cheaper.
@arctic_otter9 жыл бұрын
What do you use for ballast? I've tried tungsten bulbs in series with the mains primary, and the primary of another, seperate transformer in series with the mains input for a sort of inductor, but it doesn't produce more of a spark from the secondary with either method any better than a 9V battery could muster. Without the 'ballast', it works fine with acrs similar to the video at 7:40 , other than popping the breaker after a few seconds from the amp surge, so I know all the components are good; Any ideas/suggestions?

You are correct. However, most outlets are only 120v, while 240v is used for appliances that draw a large amount of electricity, such as electric clothes dryers, electric cooktops, etc. All outlets that supply 240v are used for appliances, and there are no unused outlets. It is also very expensive to install a 240v outlet in a bedroom or something like that. In other words, while available it is inconvenient to access.

Then one easy way (without make new installations) is to just make a split cable from one outlet to 2 - connect that to a 240 V outlet, then you can run your ordinary applience from one and have onother one left over for what ever you want. That's what I did - but I used a 3 phase connection for a stove instead.

One variac, and two toroidal transformers, configured in such a way that the transformers can boost-up the variac's 270 volts right upto 464 volts, without having to tweak-about with the variac's wiring inside. There we go. :-) YAY for Mr. Photon! Crank it till it pops! :-D {^_^} BoomBoxDeluxe {^_^}

you can get 600w bulbs if you know where to look, here's a clue: anywhere but a b&q or Wilkinson, if you find a commercial supplier, you can get big bulbs cheaper than some 60w's. these will probably have a giant Edison screw fitting though so they will not be able to fit into a normal light socket.
@BoomBoxDeluxe12 жыл бұрын
Ah yes. Another one of my much-liked PhotonVids. Knowing how to do this instead of re-configuring the wiring inside the variac is a beneficial bonus-add-on nugget of info. All I need to do now, is find a pair of cheap second-hand portable 3kva site transformers, & re-configure the wiring in them. I do wonder what would happen if I got THREE of them to crank the voltage RIGHT UP, what the output would be? :-D -BoomBoxDeluxe.
