Love the choice of title. And the explaination of self custody is truly valueable for newcomers and oldtimers in the network.

Hello Saif, I was also interested in the questions you asked about using an old laptop for offline key generation and signing. If you do this, you don't have to rely on the laptop's entropy generation to make keys. Instead, you can generate your own entropy by flipping a coin or rolling dice. That way, know for sure that the entropy is truly random. There was an article on bitcoin magazine outlining the method for making seed phrases by flipping a coin. Personally I think that this method could be safe as long as you keep the laptop safe and offline by removing the wireless card from it. Also, if anyone sees a hardware wallet, they know that it may very well have crypto or Bitcoin on it. If they see a laptop, it could just be a generic laptop being used for general purpose. But there are tradeoffs to doing this and Tony's skepticism is definitely in the right place.

Do you still recommend ledger after the whole recover backdoor incident?
@Josh_KosterАй бұрын
Tony and Saif mentioned coldcard and passport by foundation. Both are great options.

I do. If your keys aren't multisig you should be fine. If you want, recover onto a diff device with your seed phrase...doesn't matter which one.
@derek.seabornАй бұрын
Ledger was never recommended by anyone who understands the basics of cybersecurity. Ledger is not open source code, which is how the back door was put there in the first place. No need to panic if you use one, just get a cold card soon and create a new seed.

@derek.seabornАй бұрын
It’s not optimal. If you must use a Trezor be sure to use the bitcoin only device software and use third party software like Sparrow.

Saif, I know Tony is your boy and all, and he gives you money for promoting, but he is a rip-off. Charges waaaaay tooo much for what he offers. BTC Sessioms is way better and show you how to do the same for free. This guy preys on people’s fears.

Yes. And you can tell that by the way he exaggerates on almost topics. "Put a USB drive in a laptop for a millisecond and boom you're done". This is totally not how these things work...

At first glance, yes it is expensive. My friend used the bitcoin way & they did one on one sessions for every step of the way. Super thorough & safe. Some people, like myself, learned on my own because I couldn’t afford it. For people who can afford to expedite the process & be walked through it, I don’t think he’s ripping them off. For people with money like that, time is money 🤷🏻♂️

@@Jmyers88 they try to make it seem like they have something special above and beyond what we already know. Then all they do is set up a cold card and tell you to use a passphrase. Da phuc? They tout have 25 years experience. They have 5 people on their team. That means they average 5 years of experience a piece.
