@KervenAyres3 ай бұрын
Thanks bro!! I realized that if you only use the 1/4 tone notes, the sound doesn't seem strange or weird at all. On the contrary, it sounds normal, you can even hum the notes
@szymonkosowski11542 ай бұрын
Bro, no offense but there's no point in playing a 24EDO guitar if you only use the notes in between the ones of a typical guitar (1/4 notes as you call them). If you use these notes exclusively, its no different than just tuning your normal guitar up or down a 1/4 step - not microtonal, just a different tuning - relationships between the notes used are exactly the same ;) If you want to make real microtonal music, experiment with all the notes, mix and match to achieve intervals that are not availble on a normal guitar - thats what makes it microtonal, interesting and challanging for our western ears :D Anyway, great riffs and good luck in exploring the new sounds ;)
@KervenAyres2 ай бұрын
@@szymonkosowski1154 Yes, I get that, but not everything that glitters is gold. I wasn’t comfortable shooting in the dark. There are scales where you mix tonal notes with just a few 1/4 tones, and that gives the sound you're looking for, but it’s not like that. I could just do something completely random or improvised, or like many do, just play as if it were a conventional guitar. I need to understand what I’m doing, otherwise, I’ll just be playing the wrong scales, notes that don’t fit, just to please some people, and that’s not my goal

Honestly in my experience the cleaner the tone the better the interval is structure, classical style finger picking sounds absolutly killer in this temperament. With distortion holding 2 notes longer can give some very diffrent intervalic relation to the notes. Microtones are Definitely a fun new world to explore. @KervenAyres2 ай бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! The big difference is in the number of frets. While a conventional 7-string guitar has only 24 frets, a 24EDO guitar has 24 frets per octave, meaning it has 48 frets

I mean cool guitar and all but u didnt really showcase what this guitar can do ( especially with the higher frets) .Also I could see the same thing that you played in this video being played with a normal 7 string and not sounding that different.
@KervenAyres3 ай бұрын
I understand your question. I actually did this on the same day I got the guitar. I wrote everything in one afternoon, then I didn't have much time to explore the guitar further.. really just a short amount of time. In my next ideas, I believe I'll diversify more and showcase what the guitar can truly offer. As for playing the same thing on a regular guitar, it might sound a little similar, but it’s not really the same, because the notes I play are all a quarter tone off. So while it might seem close, it's really not, especially in the intro riff
@TheOffensiveSenses3 ай бұрын
There aren’t just more high frets. This guitar is microtonal.
@swarthygiant14633 ай бұрын
That’s because depending what chords you go for 32tet isn’t that different than 12tet, and that’s especially true when you use distortion. The whole reason people don’t like metal is that it’s dissonant, aka off key haha. All the sludgy overtones are already microtonal and the screaming is 97% atonal. 32tet is much more noticeable when you see lumitone playing with a clean key sound

What chords are possible with this 24EDO guitar?
@Sylkis893 ай бұрын
Is the fretboard divided into quartersteps instead of halfsteps? Is that really more useful than just bending that quarter step as needed? Asking out of genuine curiosity and not as a passive aggressive jab or something. Aren't the extra steps kinda getting in the way, don't you end up using bends for various things anyway?
@KervenAyres3 ай бұрын
@@Sylkis89 Stop and think, you can do bends on up to two strings simultaneously in 1/4 tone, but to play chords where all the notes are in 1/4 tone on a conventional guitar, you would have to do bends and adjust the tuning of some string to 1/4 tone to play it open. In other words, it would be exhausting to do this all the time. It would be more practical to have a guitar dedicated to that purpose. Moreover, there's no comparison between having all the 1/4 tones readily available to play and depending on bends. It's difficult to create an entire melody in 1/4 tone on a conventional guitar
@clarenegracey3 ай бұрын
@@KervenAyresthe concept of tuning a chord up a quarter step will never appeal to western listeners, ever. There’s a reason microtonal music isn’t popular. Vibrato (vocals especially) and bends are heavily used and popular because every performer uses the techniques differently; and how it steps out of harmonic foundations is what makes it interesting it. I personally agree with the original comment. In this genre too, the bends make or break a riff. Justifying the removal of the technique all together because you can play chords is crazy; as you’re lucky to find someone playing fifths in thall let alone chords.
