Funny story, had a friend bought a GLHS back in the 90's He and his father drove it from California to Texas. He came to friends house to show off his new shelby...I said man that thing has bald tires. he left the house and smashed into a tree trying to show off and catch a 2nd. I never laughed harder in my life.

617 (the passenger-turbo-diesel) also had an interesting engineering feature: about 5lb on the front wheels. That worked _really_ well on a cold, wet track. But the driver was always warm!

So I am a little confused about how much a car can really cost. Because finding a running car for lemons money (less than 500) that can be tracked is almost impossible. Or am I just not looking in the right places? Does 500 dollars include the roll cage and securing of the fuel cell?

No, 24hrs of Lemons rules state that the car itself must be believed to have cost $500. No spending limits on safety (helmets, fire suits, cage, brake pads, tires, etc.) you can also sell parts from that car to get more money to put into the car.

I also wish you would take budgets a bit more seriously. put the maximum on total budget, meaning all cars must actually be for sale for, say, $2001, which includes labor and fixed safety equipment like roll cages. (Do brakes count as safety equipment? since I see lots of brake problems in these vids, like that El Camino 99). I also think a serious budget race needs to be stricter with black flags, because collisions blow the budgets of other racers. If you actually limited the total value of cars with a rule that they must all be for sale at the price limit, then venders could show up with large numbers of cars for sale and teams could just show up, buy a car, and go racing, or buy a car off an experienced team if they could get back under budget by selling a part off that car. Thus it would be smart for experienced teams to bring multiple cars in case their car gets bought. Now if brakes are safety equipment, then are they fixed safety equipment? how long does it take to unbolt them? and how viable is it to bolt them up to a different racecar during the meet? or even during a race?

I’m pretty sure they use $500 as a measure of quality instead of budget, for example the guy who used a rolls Royce with a viper engine, they don’t care how much he spends cause the car is terrible

That Hyundai Tiburon doesn't appear to have the stock motor. A Beta I. That looks more like a Honda K20 or something. Intake is on the wrong side for a Tiburon motor.

I too am familiar with the Beta series and this ain’t a beta. The newer 2 liters (Theta and Nu) in Hyundai and Kias do have the intake on that side. Sux for the Exxon Valdez team, I hope they stick with it. Good choice with a Hyundai though. We just won Class C at Sonoma in the Kim Jong Elantra.

I have driven a Dodge Omni, my high school girlfriend s mom's car. We beat the crap out of it. Fasted American made 4 cylinder for the time. At least that's what I thought when I was 16. I also know we're there one of those Daytona s sitting in a farmers feild in Jewel Or. White with blue strips body is straight. First thing I thought when I saw it was baddest ass Lemons racer, it will dominate. For the right price$$$ I give up it's location.
