Nice review. I must inform you about “papers” as you proudly declared that they were included in your purchase deal 1:25. I notice your card is blank 1:32. And thus I offer my reply. Perhaps it can serve as the 8th in your list of “Tips & Tricks”. The only true value of “papers” is in the degree to which they establish provenance. In the case of Omega, there were originally up to three cards along with a dongle/hang-tag accompanying the watch (occasionally, mostly with numbered, limited special editions, there was also a paper, serialized certificate specifying the watch’s particular number within the limited run). Cards included the Warranty, Pictograph, and Chronometer cards. Each card, as well as the dongle/hang-tag, would have had the reference number and unique serial number factory typed upon it. The date would, of course, be hand written. There were instances where the AD would issue cards on which ALL of these numbers were hand written. This is a less reliable iteration as the provenance can be easily forged. The presence of an AD’s stamp can increase credibility in such cases, but still, the factory typed numeration is the gold standard to look for. The idea being that “papers” - or more accurately in the case of Omega, cards - provide a level of authentication whereas the individual watch’s unique serial numbers are represented accordingly on the cards/dongle/certificate. Gray market dealers will often include utterly blank card(s) claiming a “full kit” or “box & papers” deal in hopes of falsely reassuring the unassuming, novice collector. Many online sellers take great care to photograph the card(s) such that the number lines are completely obscured, again in hopes of fooling the undiscerning buyer. Of course, the presence of other “paper” goods including instruction books, AD listings, manuals, etc, while nice to have, serve zero benefit toward establishing the provenance of a given timepiece - and thus add minimal value. Finally, for my part, I consider the inclusion of even one factory typed card - or even the solitary, serialized hang-tag which I often find to be an unmentioned, unexpected treat - to be of equal value in satiating my hunger for validating provenance.

Seamaster was my grail too...finally got one last year. Went a little different but still with a Bond era Seamaster. I went with the 2254.50 black dial with sword hands. I love it....keeps great time. Started as special occasion watch but decided to make it my every day watch. I still put on my 36 year old Seiko dive watch when doing something that might damage it....but otherwise it stays on me 24-7.

I had an automatic version of this watch that I bought new in about 2003. I sold it towards the end of my masters because I needed the money. Now that I have a job, I bought the 2018 version. I missed having a Seamaster. It’s a great watch... any version.

The new Seamaster feels like a different watch though, doesn't it? Like it's bulkier, bigger and a bit more shinny due to the ceramic bezel. The design is great obviously. Could you compare the old vs the new? I'm thinking of buying an old Seamaster since the new one is too big for me and I don't like ceramic bezel

I just pulled the trigger on this watch through Chrono24, though it's still in escrow. It took me a while to find one in the condition I would like without breaking the bank, and it still cost me $2100 USD pre-tax and shipping! From what I could see out there, you got quite a bargain even though you bought yours years ago at this point. I bought mine for the GoldenEye association as well. To be honest, I "settled" for this watch until I'm comfortable enough to buy a brand new Speedmaster Moonwatch with a nylon strap. I'm a big space nut, so being the first watch on the moon makes the Speedy my grail, within reason. I can't imagine my wife would ever let me buy anything over 10 grand that we can't drive or live in, but if I could, I would consider a Speedmaster Snoopy to be my true grail. I can't wait to receive my SMP. GoldenEye is one of the best Bond films, second only to Casino Royale. They should really let Martin Campbell direct every movie that introduces the latest James Bond actor!

Excellent review Oleg and it is great to see how much this watch means to you and the memories it shares. I got the automatic version in 1995 as my first 'serious' timepiece and I still wear it in rotation today. It was my only watch for about 8 years because it is a brilliant all rounder. I own a sub as well these days but the Omega still gets as much wrist time. I've never serviced it as it still runs well enough (about -10 sec per day) and the lume has aged to a beautiful honey colour that I wouldn't restore. I shall be passing this one on rather than selling.

Nice video! I just brought a 36mm, white dial version of the 1996 Quartz Omega Seamaster. I absolutely love it! I had a Sword-hand, Peter Blake Seamaster automatic, in 41 mm. It was in like new condition so I wore is sparingly, as I was afraid to damage it. Eventually after 3 years I decided to sell it. I much prefer the smaller 36mm size on my 6.5 inch wrist. Just a note about Quartz verses automatic, if your budget is tight, Quartz watches sell for less, and need less maintenance on average. I hated laying out $600.00 USD for an AD service on my auto Seamaster....just think of all the nice timepieces that can be had for $600.00.

Great review! It's 50 years ago since Seiko introduced the world to quartz! Omega quartz I understand have quite a fanbase? If I was 007 the last thing I would want is a bloody automatic? Looks the same as its counterpart but actually tells you the time. It's the cheap nasty quartz efforts that give quartz a bad name!Cheers!.Len.

Lack of micro-adjust truly does suck... However, acquaint yourself with the Seamaster bracelet's half-links (right next to the clasp), Oleg. Removing them has allowed me to achieve a perfect fit time and again. It's a hassle, sure, especially with the inner "jack-in-a-box" push pin sleeves falling out and nearly getting lost each time, yet it works. By the way, has the bezel been replaced on your particular unit? The steel inserts fade over time, and yours reminds me of just how beautiful the blue on the Seamaster's bezel insert can be when nice and fresh.

I am not sure if it was Quartz or Automatic but Omega Bond watches from Omega were also something I used to want. It was 40mm in diameter so maybe even older than the one you have. I am not sure. Omega has quite a few nice vintage watches for many years. I do not like anything from them now. They are too heavy and too big for me. Some quartz watches are very accurate. The Grand Seiko 9f quartz is probably the most accurate besides the atomic clock. I have seen all the Bond movies but the last one a few times and I do remember seeing the Seamaster. Oleg, I believe buy what you like and don't care what anyone else thinks. You seem to love it and I enjoy seeing people who love their watch or watches. I don't think I will ever have my grail watch and I have wanted since around the late 1990's the Rolex day date in 18k Gold with a presidential band with white dial. A place I worked the top sales guys had them, I even bought an old Yachtmaster off one of them. I sold it in 2002 after 9-11 and everyone got laid off work all over the place. My stocks went to almost nothing. was a tough time. Now the newer Yachtmaster are much nicer in the bracelet and movement. It was the mid-1990's and I think I paid less than 2k for it. That covered two months rent and utilities so I don't regret selling it. Now my wife does not work and still have over 13 years on the mortgage, so no more Luxury watches for me. I look for value-packed Microbrand watches. This is why I bought the Tisell marine diver. I have loved the Submariner for a very long time. Also was a good value for the watch. I know you have one or two of them, or did. I have not seen any homage watches for the bond Omega Seamaster ever. Have you? How is your training for the Marathon going?
@24hourstime5 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, absolutely, people should buy and wear what makes them happy. Tisell Marine Diver is a great watch. I've seen some homage/copies of Seamaster from China but nothing that really looks good. Marathon prep is going well will be running it on May 5th:)

Great watch. Great movement. It's the only quartz peice I personally own, but mine is the 36 mm version. My daily wearer is a vintage Datejust so the size is ok for me. Mine is even more aggressively polished, but again, I'm used to it. Longest standing grail would have to be... The day date. But it'd have to be new to me. Polishing (over polishing) DOES ruin that watch IMHO.

I just got my 2541.80 a few weeks ago. Like you, it has been a watch I have been wanting to acquire for a long time.IMHO it has one of the best bracelets out there. To illustrate this; I decided to wear it even before I had it sized to my wrist. And what I found was that even though the bracelet was too big (I had to remove 2 links) the watch sat flat on my wrist the whole time. I wore it all night with a "too big" bracelet and I never felt it slipping off, or rolling around my wrist?!

To my way of thinking Omega can do very little wrong, so cool choice Oleg. The idea of a "grail watch" is a bit odd, since it suggests that once you find it that's job done ... and we all know that's not how things tend to work out. I don't have one in mind, but I'm still kicking myself for dithering too long over the discontinued Precista PRS-5 from Timefactors, which isn't remarkable technically speaking (you could think of it as a Seagull 1963 in different clothes) but the look of thing is very close to one of my ideas of perfect. A good second hand example would be hard to resist.

Hi Oleg, I've just watched the latest video by Jody from 'Just One More Watch' and read the many many comments about the misaligned second hand (and noticed it by myself of course; have you already seen the review?). Am I wrong, or is the second hand of your Omega also a bit misaligned? And if so, does it disturb you? (I really don't like such things :D)
@genaishivatov17375 жыл бұрын
It should worry more that she is so twitching back - and not something that does not get into the tags (the Swiss have not paid attention to this for a long time)
@Nachtgedicht5 жыл бұрын
@@genaishivatov1737 You're right, the twitching backwards is another negative point, even though it's unfortunately very common and doesn't have to mean a technical problem. The mentioned misalignment is something that's a pain in my neck, and if I want to worry about that, I do it :)

Look at the price of a Quartz Omega ... it falls short of the price of an automatic however then look at the price of SERVICING an Omega automatic and replacing a battery in the Quartz ( which won't need a service other than possibly the water resistant seal ) for a service on an automatic you are looking at possibly £200 or more because they take the watch apart and rebuild it replacing allegedly worn parts ( then the price goes sky high). I personally love the automatic because that to me IS OMEGA however don't write off the Quartz because when it comes to value for money THAT was a good buy . Cheers !

960 dollars for a Seamaster is insanely good, they're going for around 2400 - 2600 dollars today and that still seems reasonable.

When you see the sequence starting at 3:29 you realize that this watch is 960$ too expensive...

Is it a genuine watch? Looks like a fake taking into account its quality.

Modern realities are such that quartz calibers are experiencing mechanics (for the Seiko calibers of the NH35 type, problems begin already in 4-5 years). I see no reason to invest in such an expensive Omega mechanics, but these is quartz and it pleases.

He must not like the Seamaster that much since he opted to WEAR a different one...on each wrist!! The other watch takes away from the Seamaster with you swinging your arms around like a orchestra instructor. 2 Watches on each wrist.... NERD
