I is mine too, but I wonder if its because they think they get less gold with the American Eagle, which is why I wrote the comment below. Some, especially in this beginners video, are asking why one would buy an ounce (emphasis on ounce) of 22k over 24k. They think they get less pure gold content which may have contributed in their decision. I personally like the shiny yellow, I like the "gold yellow" to reflect in my bullions and not look like gold jewelry, ha!

@@ColorOfMoney7 Well, I can't promise to live that long LOL. If not, send me a text. But remember, they never run out of ways to come out on top. Executive order 6102 for example in 1933. Nothing to stop them from doing that again, confiscating all gold in order to go on a gold standard. Then they hand you a wad of, again, paper money... and revalue the new currency to rob you of 40% of the value they took. Pretty neat trick. Even if your gold is stashed away from them, you can't use it because it will be illegal to own. Currently, a gold standard does not serve them in any way. Were they to adopt it, it would only be because they found a way for it to serve them rather than you.

I'm a new stacker, but can say I don't have a preference. I'm sure it's a very unpopular opinion, but I'm not a fan of AGEs. It has nothing to do with them being 22k, I'm just not a fan of the design. I own a philharmonic because it was the cheapest 1/4 oz gold in stock when I wanted to buy. Even though I'm not a fan of AGEs, if that's all that was available at the time I would still buy it.

Take it from a gold stacker, 22k American Gold Eagles are better. The Gold Eagles have just a little silver and copper added to them -- it makes the Gold Eagle a lot harder and more robust. And *that* makes the Gold Eagle much easier to handle. Eagles don't scratch or scuff easily. I love them, you can throw Eagles in any old tube or pouch or whatever, they won't scuff or scratch. This is *much* different than 24k Buffalos or Maples, which you need to be really careful with, else unscrupulous dealers will ding you for a bit of money for even small scratches (which is BS). Maples and Buffalos are really nice coins, and yes I would stack them as well. But you really need to be careful with them, and I hate that aspect of 24k / .9999 purity coins. Rub two of them together, they are going to scratch.

Yeah, it's a huge component and one that doesn't come across on KZbin showing pristine coins. I have more AGEs than anything else and always will. Cheers!

Good point. Bars pretty much sit home and dont get messed with. If you are going to carry a few coins in a wallet for backup, durability is king. Buyers hate scratched coins.

Why would anyone carry a few gold coins in their wallet for “backup?” That sounds like a very dangerous thing to do, since you could lose your wallet, get pickpocketed, etc. not to mention they are not liquid and you’d need a coin shop or jeweler to convert to cash.

The more pure the better american eagle is water down .
@asuarezjd4 жыл бұрын
I agree and like my gold to look very yellow, but in the Eagle's defense, most people think they get less pure gold with the Eagle. It is one ounce of pure 24k gold, just that they add silver and copper, so the coin is 2.8 grams heavier. One does not have less content of gold, it does have one full ounce of pure gold, but mixed, blended with alloys, hence, 22k. I see it as free silver and copper though... So, I buy Maple or Buffalo because I like to see my coins be very yellow and not look like jewelry, but not because I am confused thinking I get less gold with the American Eagle.

@2 is 1 Can anyone point me to a reliable reference of the audio frequencies that make up the "ping" sound of US/UK/Aus/Can gold coins for 22 & 24 carat versions, so that I can help check a few that my company has taken possession of? I've managed to find out the frequencies for a lot of silver coins by googling and various KZbin videos, but the Gold coins' values are hard to come by. I emailed various Mints themselves and they replied that they "couldn't help me" which I thought was amazing, as they would surely know the exact values, and spreading that info would be a good way of eliminating a lot of fakes now that "FFT Plot" frequency analysers for phones are either free or about $5. The only unofficial figures I have come across are "US Buffalo" (4330Hz, 9800Hz, 17000Hz), "22k pre 2013 Britannia" (4600Hz, 10400Hz, 17800Hz) and "24k 2013(+) Britannia" (3670Hz, 6100Hz, 8215Hz, 13270Hz, 14100Hz). Can anyone confirm these and/or supply other figures?

It's irrelevant if you buy 22K or 24K gold as both kinds are sold on gold content not coin weight. Granted some coins do have advantages over others but that has nothing to do with purity . The best coins to buy tend to be determined by region. You should buy your local gold so if for American buy eagles if you are British buy sovereign or Britannias etc
