This rotary hammer drill is working fine, but the battery cannot be recharged. I need to rebuild these batteries The original battery is built with 20 cells of NiMH, fully charged voltage is 24V. The lithium battery 18650 cell fully charged is 4.2V, to get 25.2v we need 6 cells in series (4.2V x 6 = 25.2V). The battery after rebuild is 24V 6.8Ah while the original 24V 1.2Ah
-----------------------------------------------
HiMH 20cells x 1.2V = 24V
Li-lion 6cells x 4.2V = 25.2V
-----------------------------------------------
* Battery rebuild kit in this video
12 cells of lithium 18650 3.7V 3400 mAh
1 BMS 6S30A, it can provide power 24V x 30A = 720W
1 25.2V Li-ion charger
1 Dc female power jack
Battery washers
Battery nickel plated
*Note
In the video I'm error in counting 20 NiMH with 21.
I hope you find something useful & enjoy this video!
I am happy to receive your feedback, advice, suggestions to improve myself.
!!! I apologize for the mistake if I have made in this restoration !!!

It is fascinating how technical progress combines old technology with new! I worked at Bosch in the Blaichach power tool division and I deal with the machines on a daily basis. The GBH24 was launched on the market in February 1984, an unbelievable sensation (!) I can still remember very well when the first devices came to the dealers and we had to be presented. The craftsmen and industrial companies literally tore the machines out of the hands of the sellers ...> you could only get a good 30 minutes. work with it, but that didn't matter (!) For the first time, customers had the option of drilling holes in concrete far away from the power grid or on construction sites. At that time, battery technology was still in its infancy and after a few years the devices were repaired where the cells had to be replaced. Today 37 years later I am retired and am amazed again and again how far the technology has advanced with the LION batteries and that there are still people who receive these devices and even work with them!

Please invest in batteries more suited for this operation. The 18650B from Panasonic is only rated at Max. continuous discharge current of 4.875A .The cells in most current LION battery packs for power tools are rated for 15-20a continous discharge. I would look in to cells rated for 20a discharge such as the Samsung 25R INR or LG HG2 cells. Great videos!

For power tools batteries it's way better (I sould say "mandatory") to use high drain cells instead of high capacity ones. Whatch out overheating of the high capacity cells under high loads!

@@gear_show If these are genuine Panasonic cells, maximum allowed drain should be 2C, or 6,8 A. Also, unless I'm mistaken, these are flat top - without protective circuit. With 6 parallel pairs in series, that increases the maximum current to 13.6 A, but at that current the voltage drops fairly quickly. It should stay above the nominal voltage of 3,6V before draining 15% of capacity: pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/597043/PANASONICBATTERY/NCR18650B.html Depens how much the motor pulls, as long as the voltage doesn't drop under 3,6V, your pack should be able to push out about 300 Watts, which sounds like enough for a cordless rotary hammer of this size ... in fact, I think it wouldn't pull that much, considering it was running on NiMH before, which aren't famed for high discharge current (as opposed to older NiCd), so you might be just fine in this case. But it certainly doesn't hurt to be cautious over what cells are used when refurbishing a cordless tool battery. Also be careful with the charger, because panasonic specifies charging current of 1625mA, with your 4A charger you're pushing 2 amps per cell, which might be a little too much.
@andycapo9you
@andycapo9you 3 жыл бұрын
@@marsdeimos4301 I was about to comment the same; 2ah charge per cell is way too much. Usually I don´t rebuild old hammer batteries like this for old high drain tools because it is not safe to use it; they lack of any battery drain circuitry and it can result on a very pist client complaining about it not working after 2 or 3 uses... Always build greater battery than wht the motor or aplication needs, not the oposite!

The Ingersoll Rand 114GQC Air Hammer kzbin.infoUgkxqqoaX03nrziKwF7Bjjcc71YzLEleMvOS was just the tool I needed. I Use it to remove stuck bolts. If held at the right angle you can cut slightly into the bolt. Then turn the air hammer to where it will hammer the stuck bolt to unspin the bolt. Given a little practice it works great. This air hammer gives you the control needed to get the job done right. Very powerful yet still does not seem to have as much vibration as other guns I have used. One of the best I have gotten my hands on.

Hi there. I have one question: the batteries you're using have maximum discharge rate of 6.7A. You arranged them in 2P configuration, so they can withstand 13.4A. Yet you've put a BMS that can handle 30A. How does that work in practice then? If the current draw from tool is more than 13.4A, won't batteries be damaged, burned?

I think if you carefully watch, the pillar removed, was simply that, it wasnt a screw location, more of a support to prevent the case pushing inward in the center? The screws are on the perimeter, not in the center.

@@user-rl4xj1xd9c Exactly. I had same problem because i managed to put only 12 cells inside. Original voltage of this battery is 20-30V - if i use 7S1P liion i get 21-29.4V and this is ideal. 6S2P will give me 18-25.2V but i have double capacity. Simply cant add 14 cells - must find some other way :D

need your help I have a 24 v nicad DeWalt battery I would like to convert to a 24 v Li ion battery and charger What and how many batteries would I need? What type of BMS and charger? I would like to use to put the battery in charger you have 6 cells x 4.2 =25.2 but you used 12 cells I don't understand this
@gear_show
@gear_show Жыл бұрын
I used 12 cells, because I want large ampere. I connected 2 cells in parallel. Parallel increases ampere same voltage, while series increases Voltage same ampere. You need to understand "series" and "parallel".
