Thank you for sharing. I built one based on your design last year, and it did a wonderful job. This spring I invested in a couple of thrust bearing, about $7 total, to use on where the arm attaches the wood block. Turns easier and reduces the wobbling, in reality it won't make much difference but it moves more smoothly. Thanks again for a great idea.

Heck if i just had that block that holds the blade bevel horizontal that would be a huge improvement for me. A flapper disk is far superior to any stone for sharpening in my opinion.

Straight forward information. Very smart on your part to build something that works well for you. You have inspired me to make something that I can use. Even though I won’t need it( I won’t wear out blades)if we don’t get some rain in Texas though.

One of the things that would prevent the grinder of wobbling during use, would be to have the upper arm & grinder to be on the same angle & attached. I suspect that you would have to make your lower arm be longer than the upper. From a fellow Georgian (Dalton, Ga) to another, it is great that you are sharing something of yours that can be helpful to others.

good video. 2 things. first is buy a couple cans of scrubbing bubbles and clean your garage door, which is also your backdrop, and it looks like hell. "this is my shop" you say, but evidently its dirty, and not well lit. not great for credibility, and neither is grinding with flip flops on. second is that a cheap piece of plywood on top of [whatever that is] would also make you look like you know what you are doing a lot more. all that being said, this is a much better way than free-handing blades on bench grinder...i just wish you did a few production refinements.

Enjoyed both videos on this topic. Gonna put one togather for myself and my sons to keep things sharp. The wobbly arm doesn't really change the angle of attack does it? Might mean the point of contact isn't right in the middle, like you showed, but not sure it would have an impact on the final grind. Any thoughts?
@cleangreenlawnservicellc2630

I love making things with my own hands. Will definitely build one of these! Thank you for the awesome videos! I can vouch that safety glasses are not enough. I had two pieces of metal fly around my "safety" glasses and lodge themselves in my left eye and I had used a grinder during work for years this way before this incident. Didn't feel good going in or the eye doc removing them. Not to mention irritation and time recovering. Little pieces flying around are hot and do not always fly in a straight line. I was lucky and regained full sight. Dont risk it.
